[Update: The Inception Limited Edition Briefcase Set WILL be released in the U.S. – See Post.]

The most talked about film of 2010 is on its way to DVD and Blu-ray. Inception will release on home video in the U.S. on December 7th, 2010.

Details on the overseas release of a Limited Edition Briefcase Set came out just over a month ago. It is still unknown if that version will be available in the U.S., but you can at least get your hands on a DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Copy of Inception stateside in early December.

Update: If you’re in the U.S. and are interested in purchasing the Inception Limited Edition Briefcase set then go HERE for details on purchasing it.

Topping out at just over $800 million worldwide, Inception‘s box office has been a revelation for brainy blockbusters. But the film inspired more questions than answers once the credits rolled. You won’t get all the secrets of the film, but the special features on the upcoming home video will certainly address a few lingering questions.

The home video release will feature Warner Bros.’ fantastic Maximum Movie Mode, aptly called Extraction Mode. It is not mentioned who will host the special mode, but it will give in-movie insights regarding the overall design of pivotal scenes. The rest of the supplements will give you a peek into the mind of Christopher Nolan.

While these features are great, it’d be nice if there were more of them. Maybe Warner Bros. is holding out for a ultimate edition release with more features. Production companies are infamous for double-dipping with hungry home video fans – leaving some of the best behind-the-scenes footage for a second release.

It’s also possible that Warner Bros. will be using alternative methods to share extra content. According to Blu-ray.com, consumers will have the opportunity to access extra features through a series of tasks on their mobile devices.

“Starting November 15, consumers can receive exclusive, never-before-seen Inception content on their camera-enabled mobile devices via Inception Snap Tags that will be placed on various Inception advertising materials. Consumers only have to snap a photo of the Snap Tag with their camera phones and send the photo via MMS to 95871 (for AT&T, Verizon, and Alltel customers) or as an email to inception@snaptag.mobi to get a reward. Different rewards will be offered on a weekly basis until December 7, when the final reward offered will be tied to the Blu-ray Combo Pack.”

It will be interesting to see how many consumers go to the trouble of accessing the extra mobile content.┬áConsidering the plethora of featurettes released prior to Inception‘s theatrical debut, there is definitely plenty of information that’s not included in the home video release.

Are you going to pick this U.S. release up the day it comes out or will you hold out for a more detailed DVD/Blu-ray? Do you plan on accessing featurettes through a mobile device?

  1. I may buy this one,it was really good. But i wanna know if theyll release another one with more features in the future so i can wait….

  2. I’m definitely buying this the day it comes out.

I’ve never watched a special feature in my life, so I’m perfectly content with just the movie.

  3. I love the cover!! I’m really going to try and get the briefcase edition!!

  4. I am going to hold out for the briefcase edition! And I love the cover!! :D

  5. I’m gunning for the briefcase edition being available here in the U.S. I’m guessing that it’ll be the deluxe edition that everyone’s wanting.

  6. this is the movie thats going to make me buy a blu-ray player

    • LOL thats hilarious…

  7. i missed this in the theaters so im definitely buying this! though i dont know if im going to buy blu ray..

  8. already pre ordered with amazon.

  9. Sigh, Bluray has the better features, and I’m sure that another version will be out soon.

And why couldn’t they get the other cover that featured Marion Cotillard?

  10. I’m going to try and see if I can handle waiting long enough for an extra special edition. I really don’t want to end up buying twice, but I probably will.

  11. if the BRIEFCASE doesnt make it the US i will have no choice but to import it.

  12. I used to buy the DVD’s that had all the extra features and featurettes. I found that 9 out of 10 times I never watched them. I usually only watch the bloopers or deleted scenes. So if I can buy a film so much cheaper if it contains just the film w/o the extras I will. This movie I will be waiting for Netflix for, since I really can’t stand Leonardo DiCraprio.

  13. I wan’t the briefcase edition. This and Avatar are must have blu rays

    • thats the edition i want as well Sully, i have the 5 disk DVD Briefcase Edition to Blade Runner, so might as well get it in the Inception Edition as well

      • I wanna get the blade runner one too. Worth the price Anthony?

        • for me it was. you can always check amazon. it remains my favorite scifi film of all time. theres a lot of extra supplimental material thats packed with it.a very cool 3 hour documentary called Dangerous Days thats soooo cool. seeing that its worth the price enough.

          • Sweet that documentary sounds awesome, I’m sold

            • Sully there is also a cool work print version included as well, the other stuff i wont spoil, just get the damn thing lol.

  14. December7…

    Pearl Harbor…horrible.

  15. If you look at Nolan’s films and his DVD releases there aren’t a whole lot of special features on them. Batman Begins being the only real exception. Memento, although being two disks, doesn’t have a huge amount of bonus stuff. Prestige is like 20 minutes of behind the scenes stuff. The Dark Knight had the IMAX scenes and the Gotham Tonight segments and a bit on the music. Nolan doesn’t seem to like putting special features into his films, which is tragic. So I’m thinking this may be the only edition they are thinking about doing. So I’ll be getting it.

  16. What other features exactly were you hoping for? The ones described sound great to me.

  17. Got my briefcase edition pre ordered. Can’t wait.
As for the extra features, i dont know what else people were expecting, Nolans films are always scarce on extras. The double disc TDK, the extras last about an hour!

  18. I was really hoping to see some behind the scenes footage on how they did a lot of the special effects/action scenes. Normally, I’m not interested in those kinds of features on DVDs/Blu-Ray discs, but after watching this film in particular, I was really excited to see them. =/

  19. I am waiting for this movie. Waiting it in torrent. I never buy dvd’s or any other dics. It’s nonsence :)

  20. Weird. Why would anyone want a BluRay, a lower quality DVD AND an even lower quality digital copy?

Why would some marketing genius thing that anyone would want that?
Maybe I could give the DVD to my friend so he doesn’t have to buy a copy?
Instead of a bunch of trash, I’d much rather a second BluRay disc with some extra features.

  21. I got it for my birthday. Watched it 3 times already. Awesome!
