Although the actual remake of classic ’80s horror flick A Nightmare on Elm Street hasn’t actually begun filming yet (they’re in the midst of the casting stage at the moment), there is already speculation and even excitement gearing up for it by movie fans everywhere.

Well taking things one step further is a man named Christopher Johnson, who has put the time and effort into writing, producing and directing a teaser trailer for the upcoming remake, with himself playing the iconic Freddy Krueger.

Who is Christopher Johnson? Well, he’s a visual effects artist (on Jumper, Night at the Museum and Live Free or Die Hard, to name but a few), actor, writer, director and producer (as well as having dabbled in editing, cinematography and make-up!), who has a huge love for the Nightmare on Elm Street series and the Freddy Krueger character. Before we give you more details on Johnson and what he’s trying to achieve with this, check out the trailer itself (thanks to /Film for this):

Johnson hasn’t just created this trailer as just a bit of fun to post on the web (although I’m sure it was a heck of a lot of fun to make) – he is serious about playing Krueger in the remake, and has made this trailer as proof of his love for the character, to show just how serious he is about it.

The trailer is pretty fantastic, especially for it being something created by a fan. It looks damn close to the quality of some of the real trailers that the big studios put out. Undoubtedly they didn’t have that high of a budget, but it looks like they made the most with what they had. Johnson looks cool in the Freddy Krueger get-up, and if anyone other than Robert Englund is going to play him, I say why not give Johnson a try? He clearly loves the character, and has shown with this trailer that he could pull it off.

His hope is to land an audition as a result of this “concept piece,” and we here at Screen Rant say good luck, and more power to him for going all-out for it!

So what do you think of this fan-made teaser trailer? Do you think Johnson makes a good Freddy Krueger?

A Nightmare on Elm Street is set to start shooting this month in Chicago, and is scheduled for an April 16th, 2010 release.

  1. Heck, I’d say let him direct it, that was pretty authentic looking.

  2. Wow. Very nice indeed. I’d say let the guy have a go at it..

  3. That was actually really cool. Good luck gettin the part.

that is brilliant thet is the next freddy! this guy is awsome! freddy still on fire? brillanit! i want! i want! i want!

  5. i really liked it, and with hollywood special effects it would be pretty much perfect. Freddy walking around on fire as well was super cool. That trailer freaked me out a bit. well done!

  6. Well Done, Christopher.

Good luck and if I had a vote … you’d get it.

  7. Luv’d the idea of Freddy being alight with coals and flames!!! way kewl!

  8. PROPS! Would love to see it!

  9. MAD skillz. Had great new “heat” effects; particularly liked Freddy with the “cinder block” glow, as well as his knife / fingers with the hot metal glow. This guy gets my vote all the way to direct and / or play Freddy.

  10. Freddy walking around on fire for one scene would be okay but not for the whole film. He isn’t Ghost Rider here. And while that fan-made trailer looked good visually, the “writing” left a lot to be desired.

As for Christopher Johnson as Freddy, I don’t think so. I’m still getting used to the idea that Jackie Earle Haley is replacing Robert Englund but at least Haley is said to be a good, if not great, actor. What has Johnson done to earn the role besides a trailer that looks good?
