Yesterday, Screen Rant reported on the very first images of Scarlett Johansson in costume as the Black Widow for the upcoming Marvel Studios production of the sequel to Iron Man.
This was our first look at one of the new characters and faces added to the Iron Man franchise and Marvel Movie Universe. Today, we can add two more with our first looks at the new James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes played by Don Cheadle as well as Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer.

The images come from /Film and I edited the actual stills for you. They don’t show too much but both seem to take place in a courtroom scene, likely over the issue of the government’s ownership of the Iron Man technology. Take a look and see what you think:

Tony Stark and Pepper Potts

Col. James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes & Justin Hammer (in background)
What fans really want to see is Rhodey in that other costume he wears. You know, the silver and black one littered in guns. I have a feeling we’ll get to see what the live-action War Machine armor looks like very soon.
I look forward to seeing Cheadle’s performance as Rhodes and although I don’t like actor changes during franchises, I think he’s much better for the role than Terrence Howard.
Expect some big updates and revelations very soon as the entire cast of Iron Man 2 will be on a panel next Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con and we’ll be there to give you all the coverage.
Similar to how we first got to see Scarlett in costume, it started with some low quality images that popped up online and were quickly followed by some higher resolution official images. Expect the same for these characters and more from next week!
Iron Man 2 is directed by Jon Favreau and kicks off the start of next summer, opening May 7, 2010.

Nice, thanks for keeping up up to the minute on IM2.
pepper looks mad
I think she looks worried?
Either way, I’m sure Tony did or say something stupid…

Anyone else notice the arm in red that is grabbing peppers wrist?
Am I missing something? I don’t even see Pepper’s wrist in that photo?
He’s probably talking about the pixel wide column of red by her left wrist. Just poor photo quality.
Glad I’m not the only one that doesn’t like actor changes, but sees the move to Cheadle as a good one.
Damn Gwyneth is FINE when she is in pepper Potts role.
I thought I saw something that wasn’t there, forget what I said before because I feel like a jackass.
Nah, not your fault, I looked and I also see a red line there, but it looks like it’s just the picture, and not really anything there.
@sin
It’s probably the red hair, it’s a subconscious thing, red hair is a recessive gene, so it’s more rare. I would say that it has something to do with the perception that it’s indicative of vulnerability, but don’t want to get into psychology since it’s not really an exact science anyhow. Besides, most of us guys took psychology just to be surrounded by hot girls anyhow, lol. I know that’s why I took it…
I think Gwyneth Paltrow is pretty hot all the time.
I still think Terrance Howard did great playing Rhodey. Its just me but i hate when you have one person in the first film and someone else takes over the part during the franchise.
even though hammer’s pic is kind of blurry he looks really good
I was disappointed with these pics. As you said, they don’t show much, and they come from Entertainment Weekly’s new issue. Looks like they are scanned in, hence the image quality is a little suspect. I am curious to see what Cheadle looks like as War Machine. Love Don Cheadle…and very happy for him to have picked up this role. (No disprespect to Terence but Cheadle is a horse of an actor!).

even though hammer is in the backgrond he looks pretty cool
Will anyone miss Howard? I won’t.
Getting excited for the movie.
The Critic,
Not really. Hes a decent actor, but Cheadle way better.
Agreed. Cheadle is more of a forcewith dialogue
mistake {force with}
@matt k
I agree that cheadle is better. Haven’t seen Howard perform well since Hustle and Flow.
Cheadle is a better actor.
However, Terrence looked more like a superhero. (Not that will matter much when he dons the armor.)
There’s good and bad to both guys, but meh. I’m sure it will be a good movie regardless. I had more of a problem with Katie Holmes not being in The Dark Knight than Cheadle replacing Howard.
@Phil
The actress in TDK was way better than Katie holmes IMO. Actually can’t stand holmes.
@ Phil
I agree with ya Phil about how Howard looked more like the super hero type. I respect Cheadle as a actor but after seeing Howard play Rhodes in the first film and knowing how Cheadle is, i Prefer Howard still but people surprise ya. I hope Cheadle can live up to what Howard started. As for TDK, i thought Katie Holmes played a better head-strong Rachel dawes.
While I thought Gylennhal was a thousand times better than Holmes was, I wish they didn’t replace her b/c then we would have gotten to see Holmes blow up instead of Gylennhal.
I laughed out loud when Gyllenhall got blown up.
Howard didn’t play a superhero in the first movie so noone knows how he would be in that role. So to say that he would be better suited for it makes no sense.
@stuntmanj
LOL I gave one of my friends crap about that scene cause he thinks she’s all that. I said to him that it could of been worse if the Joker stuck a carrot in her mouth like one guy did in the movie ( Secretary) before she died.
@matt
that was a funny comment dude haha
@ Critic
Umm, Rhodey/Warmachine are the same person whether he’s in the armor or not. In the first movie we saw how hard-headed he was as he was in the comics and if he were to be in the sequel, he would still be that guy. It does make sense if you think about it.
@chris
good point. Once the armor is put on I don’t think we would notice a difference between the two of them though.
