Im a Marvel Im a DC Green Lantern XMen First Class SR Pick [Video]: I’m a Marvel…and I’m a DC: Green Lantern vs. X Men: First Class

Green Lantern and X-Men: First Class have a lot in common. For one thing, both films are ranked among the summer’s most anticipated superhero movies, even though each of them faced early criticism from fanboys (Green Lantern for unfinished CGI, X-Men for continuity issues).

While Green Lantern doesn’t come out for another couple of weeks (June 17th), X-Men: First Class has been received well by critics (check out our First Class review). Will Green Lantern find the same success?

For fun, resident YouTube genius ItsJustSomeRandomGuy put the two franchises side by side for another edition of his hilarious “I’m a Marvel…and I’m a DC” video series.

In this video, Green Lantern and Magneto square off against one another, trading barbs on everything from Green Lantern being “Van Wilder in Space” to X-Men: First Class butchering traditional Marvel continuity.

Check out the video below.

I think my favorite part of the video is when Green Lantern starts hassling Magneto about the film’s interpretation of the “original” X-Men team. Among comic book fans, continuity errors rank among the most egregious of all mistakes.

Of course, X-Men: First Class is good enough on its own that these concerns are unmerited, but the way that the video perfectly captures fanboy rage is pretty humorous. Professor X pulling a Jedi mind trick on Green Lantern is also a pretty good gag – as is the appearance of Mystique at the very end of the video.

On the Green Lantern side, I loved hearing Magneto criticize Green Lantern’s wonky looking mask (“Will ILM be finished with that by the time the Blu-ray comes out?) and, as mentioned, the “Van Wilder in space” line is another killer.

Obviously, these videos are made with a lot of love for the comic book fan community – which is one of the reasons they’re so consistently popular. That being said, I always admire it when fanboys can laugh at themselves and their obsession. It’s so easy to get caught up in quibbling over minor issues, but the real things we should debate are the quality of the films themselves.

With that in mind, who else would you like to see square off in the next edition of “I’m a Marvel…and I’m a DC”?

    Well said.

I also loved that ILM mask comment, but I think my favorite part was Xavier pulling a Jedi on Green Lantern.

  2. Sinestro vs Loki?

  3. “i swear i will hit you with my ring hand!!” hahahahaha

    • Very impressive to see you flexing your “knowledge of the Marvel universe” muscles, but if you insist upon doing it repeatedly, post after post, perhaps you should include:

“Bat Blah”, “Doctor Blah”, Spider-Blah”, “Super Blah”, “The BlahB”, The Amazing Blah-biddy-Blah”, “Professor Blah”, “The Incredible Blah”, “The Blue Blah”, “The Green Blah”, “X-Blah”, “The Uncanny Blah”, “Wonder Blah”, “Death Blah”, “BlahVerine”, “Santa Blah”, “Blah Wars”, “Blah-ula”, “The Blahtastic Blah”, “The Silver Blah”, “Blah Lactus”, “The Human Blah”, “Blah-Man”, “Iron Blah”, “Plastic Blah”, “Titanium Blah”, “AquaBlah”, “The Invisible Blah”, “The Mighty Blah”, “Blah Squad”, “The Blah Mariner”, “Blah Crawler”, “Blah Neat-O”, “Blah Clops”, “She-Blah”, “Blah- Ceratops”, “Blah-So-Raptor”, “Blah League”, “The Blah-Vengers”, “Doctor Blahtopuss”, “The Blahzzard”, “Captain Blah-Merica”, and last but not least…
“The completely annoying and insistent on doing the same post every single time whether you like it or not because I’m just doing my own wild and crazy thing and you can’t stop me Blah!”

No harm meant bubba, but please…you’re welcome here without having to editorialize with the same material every time. We know you know your stuff, okay?

Peace out, and hope you got a chuckle from this…

      • Nowhereman,

Yeah, I just looked at his comment history. We won’t be seeing those repetitive comments on the site any more.

        • LOL. I’m glad it wasn’t just me noticing that. Whew! Thought my mind had gone wonky.

  4. Xavier rules.

  5. I got hooked on the I’m a marvel I’m a dc video forever ago. The 100th video, imo was the best.

  6. Bane vs Captain america

  7. No duh! I can totally see The Amazing Spider-Man’s Spider-Man vs. The Dark Knight Rises’ Batman by summer next year.

    • Now that would be an amazingly one sided video – Spider-Man at a loss for words would be funny though.

  8. I think Iron Man vs. Supes would be pretty interesting, but maybe not as much as Iron Man vs. Carter’s Wonder Woman. Or has there already been an Iron Man/Superman send up?

    • They’ve done Ironman/Batman… I know that much

  9. All these guys videos are hilarious. The “after hours” ones are pretty good too

  10. I love this guy’s video! I constantly find myself rewatching them…always hilarious and accurate.

  11. I love these videos. I enjoy his parody TV series the best. After Hours, Happy Hour, and Zero Hour are hilarious. These Marvel/DC Mac parodies are awesome as well.

I think the next one will be Green Lantern going against Thor and X-Men again. Kinda like what he did for Wolverine and Watchmen in 2009. They’ll probably talk about the success of Thor and X-Men and wonder how GL will do.

And I cannot wait for next summer when Batman returns to destroy any argument from the Avengers and the Spider Man reboot
