Ice Age Continental Drift Trailer Ice Age 4: Continental Drift Trailer

Despite making over $886 million dollars worldwide, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – the third entry in the Twentieth Century Fox animated series – wasn’t exactly a critical darling on the level of, say, your average Pixar film.

Today, we have the trailer for the fourth in the series, Ice Age: Continental Drift. The film will feature the hilarious prehistoric antics of Manny (Ray Romano), Ellie (Queen Latifah), Diego (Denis Leary), Sid (John Leguizamo), and Scrat the saber-toothed squirrel, as well as new characters.

As the subtitle of the film suggests, the thrust of Continental Drift is about the separation of the continents — the impetus of which (apparently) was Scrat’s insatiable appetite for acorns – and how that affects our band of Ice Age heroes in very sad but ultimately uplifting ways.

Check out the trailer below:

After Manny, Diego, and Sid are separated from Ellie and Peaches (Manny and Ellie’s teenage daughter, played by Keke Palmer), they cross paths with pirates, Sid’s long lost family, and Shira, a saber-toothed tiger love interest for Diego (played by Jennifer Lopez) – All in an effort to get back home!

Scrat in Ice Age 4 Ice Age 4: Continental Drift Trailer

It’s hard to watch the trailer and not feel as though the series is running out of steam. While the first film was enjoyed by many – children, adults, and critics alike – the sequels have thus far received mixed reviews. Perhaps this fourth film will bring some magic back to the series, but it’s also one of the least interesting looking animated films of the year next to projects like Brave, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Frankenweenie, Paranorman, and Genndy Tartakovsky’s Hotel Transylvania.

I wouldn’t mind seeing an Ice Age sequel entirely about Scrat’s Loony Tunes-esque exploits, and I doubt I’m alone in that. Ah, well. Maybe Ice Age 5?

Are you guys looking forward to the fourth Ice Age? Or was three helpings already too many? Let us know in the comments.

Ice Age: Continental Drift, directed by Carlos Saldanha and Chris Wedge, hits theaters July 13th, 2012.

  1. Ice Age should’ve been just one film. The think that I didn’t get was why they abandoned the baby from the first one. It could’ve shown him growing up as the series went. But, I believe that since Ice Age 2, the franchise has become a cash grab. :( That sucks, since the first was entertaining and interesting.

    • I like your idea. But maybe the company thought it would be to… tarzan like? Just a thought

  2. I think I will Give it a Try. :)

  3. There’s a second trailer. This one is actually quite old… seen it before.

    • Thanks, that was just a mix-up of URLs. The correct one should be in place now.

  4. I’m sorry, I LOVE SCAT…

    • FYI … it’s Scrat.

  5. I like all of the Ice Age movies so I’d be happy to see this one too.

    • YAY!! Some one else who likes Ice Age! I can’t wait to see this one! I think my favorites are going to be Granny and Shira!

  6. Didn’t Scrat shift the continents at the end of the first film?

  7. Yes, I thought I remembered that as well. Anyway, even though I am inclined to agree with you, Ben, that the series is slowly but steadily losing its steam, it should still be plenty of fun – and a good flick to bring the kids along.

  8. OK, saw The Lorax over the weekend. It had this trailer, Madagascar 3 and others but between the two, Madagascar 3 looked a LOT funnier. Maybe it won’t be better but funnier I think yes. BTW the Penguins of Madagascar on NICKELODEON is freakin hilarious..

    • I also saw the this trailer during The Lorax, but not the Madagascar 3 trailer. I have never seen any of the Ice Age movies but that trailer had me laughing. I’m going to see if Netflix have the first 3 to stream and then I’ll take my boys to see this one, when it comes out.

      • I enjoyed all three Kahless. My daughter (10) loves them all as well.

  9. i think they shouldve stuck with one. the first one was really good and i was disappointed with the second, and the third. the fourth one looks a little better but i dont have high hopes

  10. I think the first movie was the best, I mean it was intreseting, funny and emoition espeically the scene where Manny finds out about what happened to his family, it made me cry.

Also I think the studio should have left it with Ice Age 2 because Manny finds love again and also finds out his kind isn’t extinct.

Then the thid Ice Age movie was made which I found it was good but not great as the first movie.

Now this one is being made, I just hope this movie makes me feel the sam way as the first one.

Plus, Scart is funny and should have a larger movie about him and maybe funny cameos from Manny, Diego and Sid in my opinon.

  11. This film like many intended for young audiences will of course not interest older viewers….

  12. I’m glad their making an Ice Age 4. I loved the first 3 movies but it always annoyed me that Sid usually ends up alone. Plus I really want to see how this whole thing plays out with Sid’s family.
I think the only mistake the company made with Ice Age was the Christmas special. It was good at first but then when it came to seeing Santa it just got too cheesy for my liking.

  13. Saw the movie and it was great and a perfect ending.I still don’t understand why critics says its a waste

  14. Hey guys at screenrant, i’ve encountered a an anoying problem with the search box, i can’t find what reviews im looking for 77% of the time when i do its trough google, i would appreciate it insanely much if you guys to make a review searcher of some sort 😉

  15. I wish Buck would return in the Fifth film, if there is a fifth, I like that character very much.
