WARNING: Spoilers for Hunters season 1.

The Hunters season 1 ending reveals that Adolf Hitler is alive and living in Argentina, but will this alternative history subplot be a main part of Hunters season 2? The Amazon series hasn't necessarily been a critical hit since premiering in February 2020, but the debut installment establishes a decent foundation for several more seasons, especially if showrunner David Weil explores the most popular theories about Hitler's alleged escape from Germany.

For the entirety of Hunters season 1, a group of vigilantes track down former Nazis living in America under assumed names. The Hunters mostly obey orders from their leader, Meyer Offerman (Al Pacino), but don't always understand why he sometimes chooses immediate violence over proper investigation techniques. 19-year-old Jonah Heidelbaum (Logan Lerman) is especially conflicted, as he wants to prove himself to a man (Meyer) who survived a Nazi concentration camp with his late grandmother Ruth (Jeannie Berlin). In the Hunters season 1 finale, the storyline both resolves the main character conflict while setting up the premise for Hunters season 2: Jonah learns that his supposed grandfather, Meyer, is actually a former Nazi, Wilhelm Zuchs ("The Wolf"), who killed the real Meyer during World War II, and then assumed his identity. That's quite a twist for Hunters season 1, but it may have little to do with the storyline moving forward.

Hunters season 1 ends with the revelation that The Colonel  (Lena Olin) is actually Eva Braun, and that she's living with her husband, Adolf Hitler, and four identical children in Argentina. Furthermore, with Hitler being alive, it confirms that he's the mysterious "General" who was mentioned earlier in the season. In this particular scene (and cliffhanger ending), the Nazis enjoy a meal together, while a kidnapped member of the Hunters, Joe Torrance (Louis Ozawa), attempts to process the moment. But should audiences really expect Hitler to be a significant part of Hunters season 2 on Amazon Prime? Probably not. Here's why.

Hunters Season 1 Finale Adolf Hitler

Amazon has enough material for Hunters season 2 without lazily incorporating a Hitler storyline. Meaning, the tease works for Hunters season 1 because it creates hype and intrigue. There's even a Hitler Youth concept that could indeed be part of a future story. But the ending seems designed to manipulate viewers into believing that Hitler and Braun will work together, on screen, in Hunters season 2. Moving forward, it seems likely that Olin will be the primary focus as The Colonel, the grand architect of the Fourth Reich.

Hunters season 2 probably won't even be set in Argentina. For now, the team will seemingly relocate to investigate Sister Harriet's leads in Europe, thanks to a dossier that she received from a mysterious associate. So, the primary conflict will involve Jonah and company tracking down Nazis in Eastern Europe as part of "Die Spinne." Expect all the big twists to correlate with Sister Harriet's backstory, along with The Colonel's attempts to implement the Fourth Reich through various chemical means.

In short, Amazon probably wants to focus on tightly-structured subplots that have already been teased in documentary series like Hunting Hitler (Nazi escapes to South America and elsewhere) and The Curse of Oak Island (religion-themed conspiracies about treasure). There's even a strong possibility that Jonah is a some type of "Chosen" figure, evidenced by the character's trials and tribulations, along with the wording used in Sister Harriet's cryptic phone chat with someone who seems fully invested in the teenager's survival. Is it possible that Hitler will be part of Hunters season 2 in some form? Yes. However, expect Amazon to introduce a South American narrative in Hunters season 3. With this second installment, Amazon can properly flesh out Sister Harriet's backstory while establishing Jonah as the ideal leader for an even bigger operation in Argentina.
