While summer might be over, some big franchises are just getting started. With November right around the corner, Lionsgate prepares to say goodbye to Katniss Everdeen in the final poster for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part Two.
Keeping in tradition with other YA franchises, like Harry Potter and Twilight, the final book of The Hunger Games was split into two parts, the news of which received mixed reactions from fans. While the first part did not get particularly negative reviews (see our review here), it did lack the action and excitement from the previous films. However, the promotion for the second part has been gearing up for a more eventful movie.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Facebook Page revealed the final poster for Mockingjay – Part Two, which included Katniss, appearing to be flying in mid-air, in her new red oufit covered in flames. The red suit has become a prominent staple in the promotion for the new movie, as Katniss prepares to take on President Snow for the last time. As with previous Mockingjay – Part Two promotion, the tagline for this poster goes a little dark with, “Nothing Can Prepare You For The End”.
In addition to the final poster, the page announced to fans that tickets for the final Hunger Games movie will go on sale tomorrow.
Lionsgate is preparing to send off Katniss in a big way, as the promotion for the finale focuses on a violent and destructive end to The Hunger Games series. If trailers like “For Prim” (which is telling to the book readers out there) are keeping in line with the tone of the final book, Lionsgate is already warning fans that the end will be a dramatic and somber affair.
Now that Lionsgate is wrapping up part of the their promotion for Mockingjay, they’re ready to sit back and let the money start rolling in. Last year, Mockingjay – Part One became the second highest-grossing film of 2014, just behind American Sniper. Meanwhile, the last film in the Hunger Games franchise will be facing much stiffer competition with this year’s current highest-grossing film, Jurassic World, and the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens being released just a month later.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 opens in U.S. theaters on November 20, 2015.
