That The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 made the cut for our list of most anticipated releases this month, but also ranks as the most widely anticipated November 2014 release, goes without saying, at this point. Fans of Suzanne Collins’ popular YA sci-fi dystopia novel-turned movie saga have but a few weeks to go before the next film installment arrives; in the meantime, we have even more Mockingjay-related material to help with the wait.
Mockingjay – Part 1, as scripted by Peter Craig (The Town) and Danny Strong (The Butler), focuses on the propaganda war waged between the Capitol and the organized resistance (with Katniss as its public face), with each side vying to gain support from the numerous citizens and districts of Panem.
As you can see above, the first Mockingjay – Part 1 clip has dropped online (via ABC Good Morning America) not long after the final theatrical trailer. At one point, it might’ve been considered a spoiler to reveal that Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) is still alive after the events in Catching Fire – as Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) learns in the new clip – but that plot point has already been touched upon in just about every previous Mockingjay – Part 1 preview released to date.
As for those of you who prefer to have some action with your political intrigue, you need not fret; Mockingjay – Part 1 won’t be all talk and no fighting, as evidenced by the footage shown in more recent trailers for the films. Director Francis Lawrence (who is back from Catching Fire) looks to have done a solid job of staging both tense dialogues and gritty combat sequences alike for this Hunger Games(less) installment.
The Hunger Games movie ensemble was already pretty massive, but there will be even more players joining the party for Mockingjay – Part 1. A key new addition is Alma Coin (Julianne Moore), the president of the resistance against the Capitol.
Below, we have a handful of fresh screenshots from the first half of Mockingjay, showing Moore in character alongside the returning cast members from Hunger Games films past – including Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair, and Donald Sutherland as President Snow – plus a behind the scenes photo with Moore and Francise Lawrence on the Mockingjay set (courtesy of Indiewire).
On that note: best you start memorizing the various characters’ names now, lest you end up struggling to remember who’s who as you’re actually watching Mockingjay – Part 1 in theaters (or some other venue of choice).
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 opens in U.S. theaters on November 21st, 2014.
