‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Trailer #3: Return to the Arena

The Quarter Quell is nearly upon us, as the young survivors of last year’s Hunger Games tournament reconvene for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The first adaptation from Suzanne Collins’ young adult novel series smoothly took the torch from Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 to become Lionsgate’s new tentpole franchise (at least until the studio can find a way to reboot Twilight), with an impressive box office performance and plenty of hype already generated for the sequel.

To tease the arrival of Catching Fire in theaters this fall, Lionsgate has released a third trailer for the film that once again focuses on the revolution that has been stirred by Katniss and Peeta’s survival of their first Hunger Games tournament, and which also touches on the potential¬†political implications of Katniss’ love triangle with Peeta and her old hunting buddy Gale.

Those who were hungry to see more from Catching Fire will probably be left feeling a little unfulfilled by the end of this trailer, since it’s essentially a slightly shorter version of the full trailer that was revealed at Comic-Con earlier this summer. There’s no new footage revealed, so unless you’re trying to spread the love of The Hunger Games to a friend with a poor attention span, it’s probably best to stick with the Comic-Con trailer.

Perhaps more interesting than what’s been shown in the trailers for Catching Fire is what hasn’t been shown: namely, footage from the 75th Hunger Games. Aside from clips of the new contenders – who have been selected from a pool of past victors – in the training grounds and standing on their podiums ready to enter the fray, Lionsgate is being very coy about showing anything that takes place after the whistle blows. In a way this is actually refreshing in an age where trailers are prone to giving away the plot of the entire movie.

Do you like this slightly more concise version of the Comic-Con trailer, or do you wish that we could have had something new?

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be in theaters on November 22, 2013.

  1. Well, at least the special effects will be better.

  2. I love the fact that they don’t show anything but the very first sequence of the games. A spoiler-free, tension-building trailer! Now the movie can blow our mind!

    • Not a chance this movie will blow my mind.

      • Then it’s clearly not for you

      • This this movie isn’t for you

        • ^^
          This this true

    • That is so true. Now a days movies gets spoiled before they even hit the theater

  3. +1

  4. That fire still looks terrible…

  5. Muuuuuch better trailer than the last.

  6. I enjoyed the first one a lot more than I thought I would. Kinda wish I had seen it in theaters. I’ll definitely check this one out on the big screen.

  7. I cannot wait for tjis movie, i only hope they stay true to the books in the sense that they keep the picnic scene on the roof in it, where katniss and peeta get to spend time together. I hope they keep the scene where katniss hurts her foot from jumping over the electric fence and i hope they keep the bits where peeta carrys katniss to bed!

    • I also hope the roof picnic scene is shown, the scene where katniss injured her foot but its probable going to be included since thats when she met twill and bonnie which revealed the possibility of district 13 as alive… plus it was one of those sweet moments between peeta and katniss.

I also would like to show the nightmares on the train and how peeta was the one who comforted him because it is somewhat necessary to Peeta’s dilemna in the Mockingjay after being hijacked

Plus can’t wait for the beach scene… hope this one is better than the cave scene… I mean they cut the cave scene made it shorter than its meant to be…

      • Twill and Bonnie aren’t going to be in the movie… neither is Darius.
