I remember that Facebook/Twitter study it came out af few weeks/days ago it was also funded by the owners of Facebook, so its not very credible. (Imo)

Ken J, totally agree with your point on people with insecurity issues. L.A. Is stuffed to the brim with these kinda of people.
Not single them out but Armenian males all suffer from massive insecurity issues as well as 99% of all L.A. females and 100% of all rappers...
I think it all starts in school where being popular is a 24/7 way of life. Our tv/superstar culture also supports this,,,

i think the Hulk is in but Norton is out. they'll probably assemble initially to take out the hulk, which will drive him super mental and he won't be able to revert back to human. then, stuck in hulk form, they'll convince him to join them and fight the bigger threat.

Yep, that's true. The study I speak to is mainly talking about working the brain and stuff like that. The act of looking through profiles, pictures, comments, notifications, replying and commenting, etc. works many different areas of the brain and promotes things like recall, image/facial recognition, associations, and stuff like that, which is good for the brain, like those little games in Brain Age and other ones like those are designed to do.

But yah, face-to-face communication is very important, and when that's not possible, phone conversations help too. No body language, but you can tell a lot about what someone is thinking by the tone of their voice when they say things.

I'm actually kind of interested in this field, I always try to observe things like body language, the tone of peoples' voices, etc. etc. You'll be surprised just how accurately you can read people within just a few minutes of meeting them...

@ KEN J

Agreed on facebook. However I did recently read a study regarding facebook/myspace/aol, etc. and how bad it is for your communication skills.

"The lack of face to face communication undermines skills such as reading body language and other indirect communication facilities.

Mass electronic communication may lead to a lower quality of social interaction due to the sheer number of participants; the background level of gossip is likely to be higher than in face to face interactions. There's also the inference that online information has less value somehow than real world information, although the same could be said of water cooler office gossip."

It's espeically bad for kids as it teaches them to be self-centered, detached for the real world, and horrible at reading body language, tone, etc.

People with online "relationships" are also for the most part not as happy. Humans are social creatures that need face to face communication, friendships and relationships.

Ironically I'm sharing this info on an internet forum lol.

Point is, use it wisely.

Actually, that same study found that going on facebook, keeping track of your friends and doing things like that actually improve brain function, it just found that these quick burst information stuff like Twitter and text messaging messes up your memory and your ability to apply critical thinking, lol.

So facebook is actually good, who would have guessed, but Twitter is bad, well, that's obvious...

@GK

I don't know, I never thought the content of that kind of music to be intelligent or mature, so don't listen to it. I would say what I listen to but know I will get a lot of crap for it, lol. :-P

One thing I do notice is that a large percentage of people who listen to rap music and embrace the rap/hip-hop culture tend to have insecurity issues. They tend to feel like they always have something to prove. Thus the constant fighting, putting big mufflers on their car, anything to draw attention to themselves and all effort is put into trying to appear "cool" or "hip" to those around them. They really think people are watching them all the time, that's probably why they spend 30 minutes in front of the mirror making sure their cap is just crooked enough, their facial hair is shaved all cool looking, their pants are hanging down just enough, their shirts are big enough, enough of their fake but overly flashy "bling" is visible from all sides, and even the way they walk, they have to walk in a way that they hope will draw attention. They like to put flashing lights on their car that stays on even when it's off, because even the idea that their car is drawing attention even without them in it makes them feel better. They have to install those tv screens in their headrest even if nobody usually rides in the back, and those screens have to be on while they're driving even if it's just static or a blue screen just so other drivers know they have them there. I can go on and on, all classic signs of insecurity issues, and those rap videos play right into that. That's why they are all the same...

But the issue here, just because you find a correlation, how can you prove which is the cause and which is the effect? When you say the study shows people who listen to pop has a lower IQ, is it the pop music that causes it? Or is it that people with lower IQ listen to pop? I don't know. The thing about Twitter is that its popularity is relatively new, so you can study before and after effects and compare similar groups of people, but with Pop music, I think music choice is so subjective it's hard to separate them "equally" to study the test subjects accurately to determine the causality...
