Hulk Smash Iron Man 2 Rumors!

At the beginning of August, rumors surfaced about Ed Norton that said he might be making one wish of many Marvel fans come true in having an appearance in Iron Man 2 as Bruce Banner and possibly The Hulk.

This would have confirmed Norton’s involvement in Marvel’s upcoming slate of films and Hulk’s position on the roster of heroes in The Avengers.

Unfortunately, Norton doesn’t seem to know much about that nor does he have that much to say about it…

MTV News caught up with Ed Norton at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and asked him about the rumor and if he’ll be in Iron Man 2.

“I heard that. I don’t know where that’s coming from… I am not in ‘Iron Man 2′ to my knowledge.”

Maybe he just doesn’t know yet…

Damn. That sounds like a big “no” but if he was, I doubt he’d be allowed to talk about it yet. Every time I think about this, I wonder how he couldn’t be in The Avengers or have a cameo in IM2. Robert Downey Jr. had a cameo in his Hulk movie after all – He’s gotta repay the favor!

On that note, we will get to see at least one hero make a cameo and that’s likely Chris Hemsworth who’s of course playing Thor. He and Downey have screentested together and all the upcoming movies will likely have the other main characters make an appearance, building toward their epic team-up.

On the other hand, I wonder if Mr. Norton really wants to be a part of Marvel’s future after the little issues surrounding the production of The Incredible Hulk. He didn’t seem to enthused about the idea of The Avengers when asked about it last summer (actuallly, a year ago yesterday). Here’s what he said back then on the topic:

“The minds of Marvel are sometimes opaque,”

“I won’t say [they're] obtuse, but I don’t have any idea what they want to do.”

“They’ve got this notion of collecting the Marvel characters”

“Who knows where they’ll go?”

That didn’t sound promising at all, at the time, but since then, things haven’t sounded so gloom with all the speculation about a Hulk sequel and his possible appearances in the other Marvel films.

The Incredible Hulk director, Louis Letterier, said himself that Hulk and Norton would be a part of The Avengers last July, prior to Ed saying the above. Since then, no one’s been able to confirm or deny his involvement and Marvel President of Production, Kevin Feige has only said there’s a chance he’ll be in The Avengers. It’s pretty confusing and I’m surprised that they’ve not decided one way or another or have been able to work something out with Norton (if that’s even the issue).

That being said, Ed’s good at keeping a tight-lip. The last we heard from him on this was the following response during an HBO panel presentation for By the People: The Election of Barack Obama, for which Norton produced.

“I won’t comment on that, just because they keep a pretty tight reign on what they are letting out. I’ll let them say.”

Say what, Ed?

I’m eager to find out more casting news for the upcoming films. With Thor laying down announcements for its main cast members, Captain America should follow soon as it’s scheduled to release the same summer. By then, we should expect some confirmations on who’s contracted and/or written in for The Avengers movie.

I wonder then if he could just be saying that as a cover? That would be epic… Or am I just getting my hopes up?

Do you think Norton should play Banner again and that Hulk should be in The Avengers?

For worried Hulk fans, Louis Leterrier is interested again in making The Incredible Hulk 2 and with Disney’s resources, hopefully they’ll push more films into production at Marvel Studios to make that happen at least. For fun, check out Louis Leterrier’s idea for a set of Avengers films if you haven’t already – it makes for some wishful thinking.

Count on Screen Rant to let you know the latest as it happens.

Iron Man 2 opens May 7, 2010 and The Avengers is scheduled to debut May 4, 2012.

  1. @ KEN J

Agreed on facebook. However I did recently read a study regarding facebook/myspace/aol, etc. and how bad it is for your communication skills.

“The lack of face to face communication undermines skills such as reading body language and other indirect communication facilities.

Mass electronic communication may lead to a lower quality of social interaction due to the sheer number of participants; the background level of gossip is likely to be higher than in face to face interactions. There’s also the inference that online information has less value somehow than real world information, although the same could be said of water cooler office gossip.”

It’s espeically bad for kids as it teaches them to be self-centered, detached for the real world, and horrible at reading body language, tone, etc.

People with online “relationships” are also for the most part not as happy. Humans are social creatures that need face to face communication, friendships and relationships.

Ironically I’m sharing this info on an internet forum lol.

    Point is, use it wisely.

  2. Yep, that’s true. The study I speak to is mainly talking about working the brain and stuff like that. The act of looking through profiles, pictures, comments, notifications, replying and commenting, etc. works many different areas of the brain and promotes things like recall, image/facial recognition, associations, and stuff like that, which is good for the brain, like those little games in Brain Age and other ones like those are designed to do.

But yah, face-to-face communication is very important, and when that’s not possible, phone conversations help too. No body language, but you can tell a lot about what someone is thinking by the tone of their voice when they say things.

I’m actually kind of interested in this field, I always try to observe things like body language, the tone of peoples’ voices, etc. etc. You’ll be surprised just how accurately you can read people within just a few minutes of meeting them…

  3. i think the Hulk is in but Norton is out. they’ll probably assemble initially to take out the hulk, which will drive him super mental and he won’t be able to revert back to human. then, stuck in hulk form, they’ll convince him to join them and fight the bigger threat.

  4. I remember that Facebook/Twitter study it came out af few weeks/days ago it was also funded by the owners of Facebook, so its not very credible. (Imo)

Ken J, totally agree with your point on people with insecurity issues. L.A. Is stuffed to the brim with these kinda of people.
Not single them out but Armenian males all suffer from massive insecurity issues as well as 99% of all L.A. females and 100% of all rappers…
I think it all starts in school where being popular is a 24/7 way of life. Our tv/superstar culture also supports this,,,
