Third ‘Hulk’ Movie Coming in 2015?

New Hulk Movie in 2015

One of the most surprising developments in The Avengers, based on early reviews and reactions, is that the Incredible Hulk is finally awesome on the big screen. In fact, it has been said on more than one occasion that the Hulk steals the entire show.

Perhaps as a result of that success, Marvel’s President of Consumer Products, Paul Glitter, recently talked about Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming television adaptation of The Hulk and spinning it off as a major motion picture in 2015. Scroll down for details.

According to Paul Glitter, courtesy of Forbes:

“[After spinning 'Hulk'] off to a stand-alone [television] program next year, [Marvel will support said program with a big-budget feature film in 2015].”

Old School Hulk Face in The Avengers

Gotta love that hideous, old-school Hulk face

Aside from the character being well-received in The Avengers, why has Marvel decided to move forward with a third Hulk film when the last two were tepid successes at best – and when Kevin Feige recently claimed they had no plans to do so?

Says Glitter:

“His sales are up in a major way. We repositioned him from where he was always misunderstood to now depicting him in a more heroic and aspirational manner.”

Buh? His sales are up in a “major” way? What sales are those exactly? If he’s referring to the comic books, The Incredible Hulk and The Hulk placed 37th and 87th, respectively, in March direct market sales. Now, direct sales are admittedly not the be-all, end-all in terms of comic book $$$, but they are indicative of demand for a title.

Sure, it’s fair to say that both those books are up from where they were last year (marginally, in The Hulk‘s case), but if you compare them to where they were two years ago, they’re down. Three years ago? Way down. Four years ago? Way, way, way down.

Hulk Catching Iron Man in The Avengers

Perhaps the most telling statement from Glitter was one to do with branding:

“There are many opportunities for brands to align with the big commercial in the sky [Gitter’s term for blockbuster movies], but we want to develop sustainable relationships [with our promotional partners].”

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with making as much money as possible on these films, but I think it’s fair to say that we’re lucky Marvel chose Joss Whedon to bring The Avengers to the big screen – that is, someone who cares as much about the characters he’s developing as he does the money he’s receiving. Hopefully, the next Hulk film will be just as fortunate.

Do you want to see a third Hulk film, Screen Ranters? Are some of you still hoping to see The Leader? Let us know in the comments.

The Hulk 3, Incredible Hulk 2 (or whatever it’ll be called) may hit theaters in 2015, if all goes well.

  1. I agree, I live in Australia and I have seen the Avengers, The Hulk rules the screen. In every scene he was in, he was awesome. Bring on the Hulk and leave Mark Ruffalo in the role as Banner.

    • Agreed!!

  2. I really liked The Incredible Hulk. Edward Norton did a good job as Bruce Banner. I really hope this supposed new movie takes place in the MCU. And I would like Mark Ruffalo to return. Also, The Leader should be the villain, since he was introduced somewhat in the 2008 film.

    • How was the leader introduced in the 2008 film, which scene was that?

      • When Dr. Samuel Sterns (AKA The Leader) was knocked to the ground during a Hulk transformation, and some of Banner’s irradiated blood dripped down onto his head wound.

        • my bad, it was during the Abomination transformation.

  3. sweet

  4. By marketing they mean toys and action figures. And as long as the third one isn’t cruddy, I’ll be excited to see it.

    • No, they weren’t talking about toys.

  5. The more Hulk, the better. I thought TIH was a great film and if Ruffalo is as good as is being said, another Hulk film NEEDS to be made.

  6. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me fool me again and I am a fool and so is these movies

  7. Yes people we want HULK.. we dont care the money u make.. Givs us Hulk (Edward norton or Mark Ruffalo) anyone wil do

  8. I would like Mark Ruffalo to return. Also, The Leader should be the villain, since he was introduced somewhat in the 2008 film.

  9. Marvel have to be careful now – after finally finding the perfect Hulk for the big-screen – and a brilliant actor to portray Banner – I think they should drop the TV Show idea & just give us a Huk 3 and carry-on the momentum built up now by his brilliant Avengers show !

  10. If the next Hulk solo film were follow The Incredible Hulk film, im all for it of-course. Bring in The Leader as the villain. Down the road, i wouldn’t mind if Marvel brought us Doc Samson & She-Hulk aswell.

  11. It’s a metaphor….his sales are up…I.e his popularity has increased again after taking a bashing over the last 2 movies

  12. More HULK, YES!!! Mark Ruffalo proved he is the guy for the job. Lets see Hulk and The Leader asap!

  13. How many fail Hulk movies does it take for marvel to wake up and stop making Hulk movies the answers 3

    • Marvel Studios has made one Hulk film, “The Incredible Hulk.”

Are you referring to the Ang Lee/Universal film “Hulk?” That film wasn’t generated by Marvel, they were just involved in a licensing & consultation role.

Typically when talking about Hulk films, Ang Lee’s film is in its own realm, but not really considered a Marvel production. Personally I like both Hulk and TIH, but prefer the latter for various reasons.

    • The Incredible Hulk 2008
Worldwide gross: $263,427,551 Production Budget: $150 million.

      Hulk 2003
Worldwide gross: $245,360,480 Production Budget: $137 million

They still made cash not as much as some of the others, i dont think the films were that bad.

I loved the Hulk in Avengers and hope to see more of him.
I agree with the not messing it up for a tv show part but you never know it could be good!

      • Firstly, that’s the reported production budget. Usually, they under-report. There’s also the marketing budget, the fact that movie theaters get a percentage of the grosses, and back-end deals to consider. If either of the Hulks made money, it was after DVD and probably not by a lot.

      • “i dont think the films were that bad.”

All my hardcore comic nerd friends love TIH, and kinda liked Ang Lee’s film. Saying “wasn’t that bad” doesn’t fit anywhere near The Incredible Hulk in my view. I don’t know anyone who dislikes it.

        • Yeah, I don’t understand why people bag on the 2008 Hulk reboot. Sure, the Ang Lee film had a completely wrong vibe, but the 2008 reboot was great, and Hulk totally stole the show in The Avengers. I think they’d be foolish not to at least TRY to capitalize on that.

          WATYF

  14. I think there should be another Hulk movie because these movies have so much to offer with story line that can lead to more plot twist and character introductions/development. Marvel has go to finish bringing the Leader to light.

  15. “[After spinning 'Hulk'] off to a stand-alone [television] program next year, [Marvel will support said program with a big-budget feature film in 2015].”

I’m a little bit confused about that statement.

“Stand-alone” suggests the TV-Hulk will have to do nothing with the feature-film-Hulk.

“Marvel will support said program with a big-budget feature film” suggests it will have to do with the feature-film-Hulk (but I guess Mark Ruffalo won’t reprise his role in the TV-show).

  16. i want a 3rd hulk …movieee he deserves it .

  17. I love HULK,, he is way AWEESOOOME!! but please make his body more bigger,, huge neck and broad and masculine shoulder and darn a bigger traps,, i wanted to see HULK on rampage w/ those Body just like the first release of THE HULK, bigger and stronger and IMBALANCE!! almost imbalance

  18. The Hulk in the Avengers was mega-magnificent.

Ang Lee’s Hulk was actually a great film that needed watching 2-3 times or more to BEGIN to appreciate. Ponderous beginning for sure, but it was a very grown up view of the Hulk.

Norton’s TIH started off more up-tempo, but degenerated into a kid’s fisticuff bash-up.

The Avenger’s Hulk brought out the kid in us adults and was pitched just right.

Given we’ll probably have another Avengers film by 2013/14, and Hulk will be even more popular, see no reason why a decent Hulk film won’t succeed. But chances are it’ll be the last chance.

  19. Edward Norton should remain as the role of the Hulk. They should not have made any changes with that character. It was great the way it was. If Edward Norton is not part of the next Hulk sequel I will not even bother watching it.

    • I agree they should of stayed with Edward Norton because he have some thing tobring to the character than Mark Ruffalo. And Norton rewrote the screen play and didn’t get any credit for it. That’s stupid what kevin fegie did to Ed Norton he fired him when he wanted to play Bruce Banner for the second time. If they do a Hulk movie without Edward Norton I will not watch it.I heard they will do a Hulk TV series without Mark Ruffalo then it’s worth watching.

  20. Ruffalo did a good job on the Hulk, the whole movie was superb, i may see it again and then 2 more times after that. as far as ruffalo being Banner, does it really matter. ruffalo was different as this banner then the previous actors who played banner. For example, ruffalo never was really on the run like Norton and the other guy was, so in fairness to ruffalo, he was satisfactory. But are we paying to see what actor is playing banner or the chaos and damage done by the HULK?!?!

  21. I am a screenranter. Do I want a 3rd Hulk movie? Not just yea but HELL YEA!!

  22. I beg of you please make another hulk . He is my favorite

  23. have mark Ruffalo play hulk and it will be a hit!

  24. have mark Ruffalo play hulk and it will be a hit! Also have him be sensitive like the hulk in the ending of avengers!

  25. have mark Ruffalo play hulk and it will be a hit. Also have him be sensitive like the hulk in the ending of avengers.

  26. I might be alone in this – but I enjoyed the Incredible Hulk movie and loved him in Avengers (and I’m not a fan of the Hulk).

I’d love to see another go-around with the Hulk, but let’s hope Marvel can keep the wheels on the cart and not let profits overrule good movie-making and scripts.

    • Why do you think you might be alone in that view? The majority view seems to be that TIH was more faithful to the comics than Ang Lee’s version.

  27. Avengers was good, and the hulk made it that much better….i like the hulk’s role, not thrill with the character design…seemed a little ape like/hunched over at times…the character design from TIH was better, when transforming the eyes turned green first…you know the way Bill Bixby did!

  28. i really love “The Avengers” and watch it twice after its release
and the number one reason why i love this movie is because of Hulk
he really steals the scene and make the action more awesome so if I want to see the next Hulk movie that would be great and its a great idea putting Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner he’s really great for the character.

next Hulk I’ll wait for it!!!

  29. I would say that The Incredible Hulk 2 will be Edward Norton not Mark Ruffalo.Because that marvel has the Hulk solo in planned production and Louis Leterrier will be directing the Hulk Sequel movie.

    • Nope.

Forget about Norton, Ruffalo is in the role now. Norton’s out of the picture

      • You’re wrong he’s in the Incredible Hulk 2 its was announce that its a Sequel to the 2008 Film!Mark Ruffalo only has a 6 picture deals with marvel only.So the Hulk solo belongs to Edward Norton not mark ruffalo if its a Hulk Sequel than its not mark ruffalo its Edward Norton don’t forget that marvel hasn’t rule out another Edward Norton Hulk movie,so its still in development along with a spinoff the New Hulk TV series.
