It’s not a secret that X-Men movie trilogy stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are lining up to reunite with X-Men 1&2 director Bryan Singer on next year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Technically, Stewart and McKellen weren’t even allowed to confirm their involvement with the First Class sequel, when Singer first broke the news through his Twitter account last year.

Famke Janssen (Jean Grey/Phoenix) has publicly expressed hopes that she, too, will be joining her X-Men universe compatriots in Days of Future Past. She may not be the only currently-unconfirmed franchise alum returning for the project, judging by recent comments from Jackman.

The Daily Mail chatted with Jackman, shortly after he walked away with a Golden Globe for his performance in Les Misérables. Wolverine confirmed what Fox’s newly-appointed Marvel Movie Universe architect Mark Millar has been saying for a while now – that Days of Future Past features a Terminator-esque time-travel storyline – and promised tons of familiar faces to the X-movieverse are making an appearance.

To quote:

“You wouldn’t have enough room on the page after you’ve listed them all. Every other actor who’s ever put on a superhero uniform will be in it. There’s an element of time travel and, naturally, it will be action-packed.”

Millar hopes to branch out further into the X-Men universe down the line, with future installments exploring mutants who have yet to make the jump from comic book to live-action form. However, before a shared (and coherent) X-Men movie universe is possible, there needs to be some restructuring done to account for how the trilogy, Origins: Wolverine, First Class and this summer’s The Wolverine fit together. Days of Future Past is expected to do that (in collaboration with director James Mangold’s post-X3 Wolverine flick), which explains why multiple trilogy players may be coming back for another round of mutant madness.

The Cast of X Men 2 Hugh Jackman Teases X Men Trilogy Cast Reunion in Days of Future Past

Important X-Men trilogy characters such as Storm (Halle Berry) and Rogue (Anna Paquin) are reasonable possibilities to show up in Days of Future Past; though, it gets trickier, with respect to someone like the deceased Cyclops (James Mardsen) making an appearance. X3‘s Kelsey Grammar (Hank McCoy/Beast) and X-trilogy alum Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) would be fun additions, especially meeting up with their First Class counterparts (Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence) after Romijn’s cameo in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men prequel/reboot/whatever.

Do you agree with those (obvious) choices? Are you hoping to see Shawn Ashmore (Iceman), Ellen Page (Kitty Pride) or even someone like Vinnie Jones (Juggernaut) in Days of Future Past? Let us know in the comments section.

The Wolverine hits theaters July 26th, 2013. X-Men: Days of Future Past follows on July 18th, 2014.

  1. How is it that Fox Studios did so well with the 1992 animated X-men series but cant even get a coherent plot out of the X-Men movies?

Truthfully the X-men franchise should have been bigger then The Avengers. The X-men really had amazing storylines that people could not only relate too but gain wisdom from.

    • i feel the same way about x-men potentially being as big as (if not bigger) than the avengers. but i think that as long as fox has the rights to the characters, probably not gonna happen.

    • Because for them it is all about money.
How can they put the anumated series together and mess up every known character association we know in the x-men series
      1. X-1 – Wolverine/sabertooth
      2. X-1 – 5 original X-men, cyclops, jean, beast, angel, ice-man (we didnt see beast or angel until X-3)
      3. X-2 – No association between wolverine/lady death strike
      the list continues

    • I beg your pardon? If it weren’t for the first X-Men movie we wouldn’t have all the other superhero movies.

      • If it weren’t for Spider-Man, we wouldn’t have the super hero movies we have today, Spidey is what really made the jump from comics to movies a success.

  2. i just wish they would recast magneto! nothing against ian mckellan, but he was horribly miscast from the beginning. but no, we get another movie with a 75 year old magneto in a unitard with a stupid helmet. I wish the first x-men film was being made today, it would be way better and closer to the comic. there’s so many things wrong with those first 3 films, I dont know why they just dont do a full reboot.

    • @darthballs, I agree, Ian Mckellan is a great actor but he’s too old to be Magneto. Back in the day’, Rutger Hauer was a fan favorite to be Magneto and even Wizard magazine did a fan cast with him as Magneto. I think that someone who looks like Richard Gere should have played Magneto, someone in their early-mid 50′s.

      • Unfortunately, Rutger Hauer would no longer be a good fit since he currently looks older than Ian McKellan.

  3. They have been talking this movie up so much already that unless it turns out to be stellar it will be a letdown. And just like so many other people have said what kind of budget do they have for this movie to be able to cast that many people? This isn’t ten years ago and some of the actors who were young unknowns back then may not even want to be bothered at this point. And the next big question for me is how much of a script and cohesive idea can they have at this point if they don’t even know who they are going to have in the cast.

  4. It’s quite possible that Fox may have another X-3 on their hands just waiting to happen because of their over zealousness and jealousy of Marvel Studios and wanting to copy & paste Marvel Studio’s formula, quick and HUGE success. It would take a special Director with Joss Whedon’s ability to be able to juggle so many characters, interweaving stories, timelines, etc. I don’t see Bryan Singer being able to do that and Mark Miller is not directing plus he is NO Joss Whedon. Fox is so anxious to make their own “Avengers” and make a billion dollars. I guess we’ll see what happens but I personally hope for the worst. Of course there are many X-Men story arcs, but after DOFP then “AOA”(Age of Apocalypse)there is nowhere else for them to go, game over, the X-Men franchise is dead. They’ll try to squeeze as much out it as possible but will be forced to try and reboot all over again from scratch to continue to retain the rights forever.

    • I Understand Your Point, But If Bryan Singer Could Do 2 Great X-Men Movies, I’m Willing To Wait And See.

      • I’m sorry but those movies Singer made were not great. No Wolverine/sabertoothe or Wolverine /Lady deathstrike interaction, just fight scenes. Pyro wasnt a student nor was rogue or iceman, no 5 original x-men in beast, angel, iceman, jean and cyclops.
A apthetic halle berry as Storm who was just in it for the money. Singer made the movies all about wolverine instead of the X-men, cyclops was a weak leader, and storm wasnt strong enough.

        • @berserker^^^^+5

        • Agreed. I kind of hated Singer’s X-men movies to be honest.

And on topic, the one character I’d really love to see again is Angel, but I doubt that will happen as he was pretty much an after-thought in X3.

        • Wait, X1/X2 weren’t great because they weren’t a verbatim copy of the comics, and because you think Hally Berry was in it for the money?

X1 and X2 were great, especially considering X1 was on a very tight budget and an even tighter time schedule. Bryan Singer got audiences interested in non-CGI superhero movies on the big screen again, you owe him a lot of thanks.

          • Its not about being a verbatim copy of the comics. But X-men and marvel fans were know and grew up with the associations i spoke of. And Halle Berry was garbage as Storm, I would have preferred they ised Angela Bassett, but that is my opinion. X1 and X2 were far from great, and need to be started from scratch. Bryan Singer can suck a dead man’s richard and leave the X-men franchise alone!!!

          • X2 is outstanding. It might not be a fantastic representation of the comic book, but it’s one heckuva fun movie, and very well made. I submit that The Avengers might not have been as good if not for the X franchise kicking the multi-character door in effectively with the first couple of X-films. The films become easier to badmouth a few years out of the spotlight, sure…but just because Iron Man and The Avengers were BETTER doesn’t make the X-films crap. That’s just goofy fanboy foaming.

            • Hell yeah!

            • Heck yeah!

        • All of that has nothing to do with what makes a good movie, just more fanboy gripes.

          • I guess it dependes on the viewer, but through this blog and every blog associated with Singer and the X-men, there are more negative views than positive

            • Who cares? That just proves that fanboys love to whine.

        • I have to agree with you, Singers first two films didn’t have depth, or any real “emotion” to them, no character connections, nothing.

But, First Class had a bit f a tug on the senses as far as character is concerned.

    • Brian Singer ruins everything he’s touched since 2000 no hope on this and why take a storyline from the comics when you changed everything else and it doesn’t even have the same characters? Not to mention the 90′s cartoon already did this storyline so anyone who’s watched that already know’s the ending

  5. I really want to see Famke Janssen who should rise with larger role, she died as Phoenix who transformed into Dark Phoenix in X men Last Stand, she should rise again in X men Days of Future Past 2014 with larger role as White Phoenix of the Crown, she will wear a white one, I love it and her powers is stronger than she was before in X men Last Stand.
I really also want to see
-Halle Berry as a leading actress ( Ororo Munroe / Storm )
-Charlize Theron as an older Emma Frost
-Taylor Kitsch as Remy LeBeau / Gambit
-Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson / Deadpool
-James Marsden as Scott Summers / Cyclops ( White Phoenix will make him alive again )
-Kevin Durand as Freed Dukes / Blob
-Vinnie Jones as Cain Marko / Juggernaut
-Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler
-Angelina Jolie as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch
-Kelly Hu as Yuriko Oyama / Lady Deathstrike
-Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkholme / Mystique
-Kelsey Grammer as Dr Henry McCoy / Beast
    -Ben Foster as Archangel
-Aaron Stanford as John / Pyro
-Shawn Ashmore as Bobby Drake / Gambit
-Anna Paquin as Marine / Rogue
-Tyler Mane as Victor Creed / Sabretooth
    -Ray Park as Toad

I also want to see Selene / The Black Queen and Avalanche
    I really want to see villains for X men Days of Future Past are ;

    Apocalypse
    Sinister ( Apocalypse’s Partnership )
    Holocaust ( Apocalypse’s Son )
    Exodus ( Apocalypse’s New Partner )
Bastion and Nimrod ( They are coming at same time with Sentinel )

    • this isn’t a mcdonald’s drive thru where you can just order whatever the hell you want. no one cares about who people think should be in a stupid movie.

      • Unless you read the actual blog post, where people were asked who they would like to see in a new X-Men movie. Besides, you can’t order whatever you want at McDonald’s.

        • oh yeah, like two people -_- . . . people who are also actors and are rich and famous and can do anything they want. people will listen to them when they say something. no one listens to the fans. and that’s exactly why movies like phantom menace displeased 40-50 percent of the fans.

          • No Phantom Menace failed because George Lucas didn’t care enough to try. He wrote the script as he shot the movie! Darth Maul wasn’t even originally in it! He was the guy hire to teach light saber fighting to actors and Lucas liked him and threw him in. The kid was just a horrible actor. And the plots made no sense trade embargos? intergalactic politics? yeah thats what we all wanted to see, the political inter workings of the galaxy along time ago. Honestly don’t even remember what my point was lol I just hate the new trilogy so much

            • that too :P

  6. i’d like to see Apocalypse Mr Sinister Holocaust Archangel there !!
they should bring Bishop ! i don’t know if Cyclops who played by James Marsden can come back but i wish he could come back together by his girlfriend the Dark Phoenix ( Jean Grey ) i think Jean Grey who played by Famke Janssen can come back with bigger role after she did as Dark Phoenix in X 3, jean grey’s story isn’t end in the Dark Phoenix but she can rise anymore as White Phoenix of the Crown who her all powers are very much more powerful. I’d like to see Scarlet Witch, Hellfire Club ( Selene, Sebastian Shaw, and Emma Frost ) i think Ian Somerhalder would be ok as an older Havok and Charlize Theron is pretty awesome as an older Emma Frost

  7. Fox reps ^

    • Ha! Wouldn’t doubt it.

  8. This is the worst idea for a movie ever and is going to undo all the good work First Class did to relaunch the franchise

    Bryan Singer is an ass

    • as much as I agree with what your saying. I really hope it doesn’t come to that. I loved First Class so much (mostly because of McCavoy and Fassbender).

The last Wolverine movie was just…terrible, sadly. XM3 I’m still mad about. And now with these talks about bringing back X-Men alums; I’m getting worried. I honestly love X-Men. But, with the sudden and overwhelming success the Avengers brought everybody and their mother is trying to jump on that band wagon. What can you we do but wait and see I guess..

  9. The one character I want to see return is Lynn Collins as Kayla Silverfox.
Since the article mentions time travel then anything is possible! I would love to see Collins onscreen again while waiting to see her as Dejah Thoris once more.

  10. i wish fox just gives up and hands it over to the folks at marvel entirely. FOX NEEDS TO STOP MAKING X-MEN movies. let the people who will really take care of it do it.

everything that’s happened so far in this so called fox x-men universe feels like a huge violation of the stories from the books and any story coming forth from that is an even bigger violation. this all feels like movies created to milk the characters and the stories for all its worth.

what a waste. all the great stories that they could really stick to and they opt to muck it up to the point of incoherence.

  11. I tend to agree, Reijiro. Incoherence is my greatest fear

  12. I’d be interested in seeing Rogue, Iceman, and Pyro make a reprisal with the same people from the original 3. Though my moneys on a different actress playing an incarnation of Shadowcat if only because she was played by a different actress in all 3 of her appearances. (Of course the first two movies were cameos of the character)

  13. I’d be interested in seeing Rogue, Iceman, and Pyro make a reprisal with the same actors/actress from the original 3.
Though my moneys on a different actress playing an incarnation of Shadowcat if only because she was played by a different actress in all 3 of her appearances. (Of course the first two movies were only cameos)

  14. No offence to anyone here but I think a lot of Marvel fans have a problem where your so in love with seeing these characters you can’t see the problem here. If there is too many characters the storyline will simply not be able to account for everyone. I’m a bit worried Marvel and especially X-Men fans are going to want to see a story where everyone has at least one moment and you can’t do that.

The problem is that the solution Marvel always used was to have a series leading into this so that even if the big events like Days of future past didn’t account for everyone, we still have the singular stories to give at least every character their moment. I’m not saying this film has no chance just that people should realize we shouldn’t expect so much from this that when it comes out we’re left with a sour taste. Get that there’s only so much exposition and character development and story development they can fit into however long they make the film (well LOTR went above three hours but I’m thinking this will go by the usual two hours)

    • I think you miss the real point of contention with X-Men Fans…its not that we are so in love with the characters as its more we are in love with what the X-men Represent. We dont require all the characters in one movie…but we deserve a legit & credible movie, will it be perfect? no not at all…& we can live with that.

I whole heartedly believe in order to have an authentic storyline you cant stray too far from the source material….The X-men have close to 70 years of source material. Bryan singers first two movies used very few X-men & proved a lack of understanding & reverance…much as his other comic movies.

X-men First class…while a great storyline & closer to the X-men fans have wanted was some weird what if alternate reality X-men story. I dont think at this point character development is needed…its been 13 years since the first X-Men movie movie goers are more knowledgeable of the X-men then any other Superhero aside from maybe Batman or Spiderman.

      • The issue with the X-Men movies plot-wise is that they never seemed to have a cohesive idea from the start. The first movie was just a jumping off point and served it’s purpose as being the fist major Marvel cinematic property that was not a total joke and actually made it into theaters. Since then the series has just meandered on with a lot of Easter Eggs and concepts eluded to from the books that were never expanded on.

Like most of the comics from the Golden Age the X-Men has a lot of source material to work from, the key is knowing what to use and what to leave out. There have been enough major story arcs that a wide range of fans are familiar with that they should not have problems finding compelling stories to do. All of the jumping around they have done has just put them in a hole and trying to do a gimmick version of Days of Future Past may not be enough at this point.

  15. They have to reboot the entire series for it to be on par with the Avengers. Re-cast storm with Angela Basset, gabrielle Union or Sanaa Lathon, start it off with the original 5 X-men, Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Iceman, and Angel.
Keep Xavier as is, Recast Magneto or Keep fassbender. keep Liev Schriber as Sabertoothe, and introduce Jubilee, and introduce Juggernaut as the Gem of cyttorak enhanced Person, not the mutant, or maybe CGI him like the Hulk. Introduce Rogue as the Ms MArvel power stealing mutant, love Interest of magneto, before joining the X-men, Keep rebecca romjin as mystique

  16. i wanna see

    En Sabah Nur / Apocalypse
    Nathaniel Essex/ Mister Sinister
    Ozymandias
    William Rolfson / Holocaust
    Bennet du Paris / Exodus

Famke Janssen truly will have to rise again with ” Phoenix Endsong ” storyline she is stepping to go White Hot Room she become a new character after Dark Phoenix she is as White Phoenix of the Crown, she always comes from the ashes she becomes more extraordinary, she can destroy Apocalypse along the story she is unknown because now she has a teleportation ability her new psionic nexus can be appearing her healing fast will have to be useful such as wolverine she also encounters with Emma Frost / White Queen i’m love with Charlize Theron as Emma Frost, she trully will have to do making her boy friend Scott Summers / Cyclops ( James Marsden ) is alive again.

it must be definetely Scarlet Witch, Angel / Archangel, Storm, Cable, Bishop, Gambit, Havok, Iceman, Beast, Avalanche, Juggernaut, Deadpool, Selene, Quicksilver, Lady Deathstrike, Rogue, Kity, Colossus on the list.

  17. I say we give Halle Berry the boot…I would love to see someone like Zoe zaldana or Joy Bryant take over the beloved Goddess of Wind mantle.

  18. I have no faith in this FoX-Men but if they truly want to get s good actress for Storm, they need to be looking at Naomie Harris.

    • i like Naomie Harris…

  19. If you misuse the first Xman Cyclops as badly as they did, you have no business making anymore X-Men movies.

  20. Imo, this franchise is kind of screwed up. To many independent pieces. Blow it up, and start again from scratch. Probably not a popular opinion, but it’s better than trying to piece this scattered mess together some how.

  21. Storm is one of the very few X-men, that is an Omega Level Mutant, Jean, when possessed by the Pheonix is off the charts. Iceman when he had his mind played with by Emma Frost became an Omega Level Mutant during that time but could never generate that kind of power with hour manipulation.

The Portrayal of Rogue was HORRENDOUS, and whoever wrote the script for how much Cyclops was not a leader needs to be shot. He showed no Leadership skills at all. And since it was all about wolverine in the first 3 X-Men films, why not show all of his power, the Berserker rage thing that he does, where he even endangers his allies. Singer sucks balls when it comes to the X-men films.

  22. What about how Colossus was done, I keep hearing that Singer was limited in budget and what he could do in the film and with it, when they saw how much money it was generating, he shouldve had the green light with how far they could’ve gone.

After watching the buildup to the Avengers movie and although the Captain America, Thor and Iron-Man 2 films were not great, The Avengers movie was, even with all of its flaws.

If they start over now, they can make more money than the Star Wars, Star Trek, Indiana Jones movie’s combined, if they do it right, and follow the basics of what the fans already know, instead of using the vision of these garbage azz directors who havent even reviewed the source material

  23. Actually, there wouldn’t be any conflicts with killed off characters at all. As I remember it, the “Days of Future Past” comic story arc was an alternate, “what if” universe so anything is possible.

  24. A lot of the characters and storylines were disgustingly RUINED in the third film – XMEN last stand. Not to mention the movies played unfairly with some character relationships, eg Iceman – Rogue??? What happened to the Rogue/Gambit pairing? The First Class did the same thing to the relevant characters. Therefore it wouldn’t be interesting to see how they tie up the MESS in the next film. Instead do some clever tweaks and get things back on track so the movies bear some resemblance to the comic books. That would be worthwhile.

  25. X-men days of future past 2014 movie actually should be focused on White Phoenix of the Crown keep famke janssen as white phoenix of the crown – focus on Age of Apocalypse mystique works for apocalypse sinister holocaust even bastion and nimrod are working together with apocalypse and sentinels – keep rebecca romijn as mystique and focus on kitty pryde goes to travel time keep ellen page as kitty pryde. i just judge that charlize theron is good as emma frost along with cyclops james marsden professor x patrick stewart storm halle berry. taylor kitsch and anna paquin as gambit and rogue they are the real date i agree that. newer mutants should introduce just like scarlet witch cable avalanche and bishop

  26. The thing of it is is that every last one of these X-Movies are jacked up in the worst way. No this isn’t the ravings of a fan-boy so don’t go there. I don’t have a problem with a tweak here and a tweak there but for the most part they weren’t just that great. Bryan Singer isn’t that good. X1 was ok. X2 was better but not great. Superman Returns…Well we know how that turned out. Again all X3 had some good aspects but they never seemed to fall short or incomplete. Now here’s some fan-boy stuff for ya’; read Uncanny X-Men #141 & #142 (if possible). I love Halle Berry, just not in the role of Storm. Here’s my list of possible Halle replacements. 1)Joy Brant 2)Namoie Harris 3)Meagan Good.
    ~Peace

    • I would totally agree…I would add in zoe saldana to the list of possible Storm Candidates…really they should go with younger actors for almost all the roles if were supposed to believe X-men first class is the reboot of X-men film franchise.

  27. OMG !!!! pleaseeeeeeeeee

    BRING :

    cyclops
    storm
jean grey as white phoenix of the crown ( she is resurrected )
emma frost ( ya charlize theron is great i agree with a lot of people )
    havok
    gambit
    rogue
    bishop
    nightcrawler
    beast
    angel / archangel
    colossus
    scarlet witch
    kitty pryde
    iceman
    banshee
    sunfire
    mystique
    blob
    juggernaut

  28. I’d rather prefer that Kelsey Grammar’s return as well as Older Mystic’s return (she did a 2 second cameo in First Class)

    Come on Singer, don’t disappoint.
