Huge Surprise: Iron Man Most Likely Rated PG-13

iron-man-angry.jpgIn shocking news today it was revealed that the target rating for the upcoming Iron Man movie will be…… PG-13!!!

Oh, what… that’s not a shocking revelation? :-)

I remember reading something about this a couple of day ago, but director Jon Favreau confirmed that was the target over at his Myspace Iron Man group.

Why this warrants a post on this site and a hundred other movie sites, I don’t know. I suppose it could be due to the big surprise that Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer received a PG rating instead of a PG-13.

So now are fans of superhero movies worried that any and all future superhero flicks will get watered down to a PG rating? Just because FF2 received a PG doesn’t mean that will become the standard for superhero flicks. The defacto standard for these movies is PG-13. I mean even the fairly wimpy Superman Returns got a PG-13.

There’s no chance in hell that Iron Man would be aiming for an R rating, and PG is more suited to Disney family comedies. PG-13 is that middle ground where you can have tons of action and lots of generic, bloodless violence.

Perfect for a superhero movie. :-)

  1. I don’t know what to say really. This is just…I dunno. I don’t know what’s more surprising. That FF 2 is PG or Iron Man will be PG-13. FF 2 to me will be crap now that it is PG. I mean, what good action is going to come out of this? And if Iron Man is going to be PG-13, I WOULD love for to push the PG-13, as much as they can. But I dunno, we’ll see.

  2. Zachary,

Dude, these days they cram a TON of stuff into PG-13 movies… I wouldn’t be concerned about it ratings-wise. Here’s just a short list of PG-13 movies with more action than you can shake a stick at:

    Lord of the Rings trilogy
    Casino Royale
    Batman Begins
    Serenity
    Spider-Man movies
    “Bourne” movies

  3. Once again, I total agree with you Vic. To add, I believe that making FF2 a PG rated movie was the “smart” think to do, because it is a family movie.
    P.S.
The reviews are coming in and both FF2 and Transformers are “very” postive. I even read 2 reviews from different sites that FF2 is BETTER than Spidey3.

  4. Wow, you’re kidding!

Unfortunately I won’t have a chance to see any movies this weekend.

  5. Hey Vic, Hope you had a nice Father’s Day weekend camping. FF2 is a must see and YES I believe that it’s better than Spidey3, Pirates3,and Shrek3! Galactus is in the movie but engulfed in the power cosmic. Surfer is perfect. Everything is just better! 4/5 in my oppinion.

  6. Adrian,

If you’ve seen my review I gave it close to what you did, but not quite (3.5/5). Funny that you mention Pirates and Shrek… I haven’t seen either of those yet. I may catch Shrek 3 at the theater but I have no intention of wasting $8 on Pirates 3. :-)
