This Week in TV:

We learn that Girl Meets World has cast Cory and Topanga's son, Hemlock Grove has a new poster, Howard Stern may replace Jimmy Fallon after The Tonight Show move, Breaking Bad has a new set video that promises plot twists and an intense series finale and Ronald D. Moore's new series Helix has been picked up by the Syfy network.

Another child joined the Matthews family this week, as Teo Halm was cast as Cory and Topanga's son and the brother to Riley (Rowan Blanchard) in the pilot for Girl Meets World.

Halm is pretty much an unknown with only a couple of screen credits to his name; he will play Elliot Matthews, the son of Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga Matthews (Danielle Fishel) in the new pilot for the spin-off to ABC's Boy Meets World. Halm will have a big role for a newcomer, playing a character who has been described as a "thinking man's jock", but as the name of the show suggests, the story will center on Riley, who will be played by Rowan Blanchard (The Back-Up Plan), and her experiences in adjusting to life in junior high school.

The potential series - which is being brought to Disney by Boy Meets World co-creator Michael Jacobs - will pick up 13 years after Boy Meets World ended and will likely play out in similar fashion to that of its highly popular predecessor. Only this time, it will be Cory and Topanga handing down the life lessons they learned 13 years ago on the family-friendly series to their children.

We'll have to wait and see if the new kids - Blanchard and now Halm - have the same charm and appeal that the original cast did and if they can make audiences want to watch them grow up onscreen over the next few years.

Production of the pilot for Girl Meets World is expected to begin soon.

After getting our first peek at the series' trailer a little over a month ago, we're getting the opportunity to feast our eyes on the new poster for Eli Roth's Netflix original series Hemlock Grove this week.

hemlock-grove

The series - which will be released exclusively on Netflix this April with all 13 first-season episodes available at once - is based on the Brian McCreevy novel of the same name. The story centers on a young man who is also rumored to be a werewolf, and his investigation of a grizzly murder in the small town of Hemlock Grove. Here's a look at that poster:

If you are thinking the series may be Twilight-esque, think again. Since the series is being run by macabre maestro Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever), we can probably expect a lot of darkness - in tone and in the lack of actual light - and plenty of gore. The fact that the series is being delivered straight to Netflix also almost guarantees that it may be a little edgier than it would be had it been broadcast on network, or even cable TV.

The cast includes Landon Liboiron (Terra Nova), Lili Taylor (The Conjuring), Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible II) and Famke Janssen (X-Men).

Hemlock Grove season 1 will be available on Netflix starting on April 19, 2013.

According to sources close to the America's Got Talent judge, Howard Stern is being groomed by NBC to take over Jimmy Fallon's show once Fallon replaces Jay Leno on The Tonight Show in 2014.

Howard Stern on Late Night

This news comes shortly after word broke that Fallon was next in line to host The Tonight Show once Jay Leno presumably leaves (unless he changes his mind again) after his contract expires next year. There are probably several talented comics/actors and radio personalities chomping at the bit for Fallon's current hosting spot, but apparently NBC is leaning towards Stern.

Of course, Stern is known for pushing boundaries and battling censorship with raunchy interviews and sometimes even raunchier on-air hi-jinks  So, it may be somewhat of a shock (something he is used to making people feel) that he is being fast tracked for the job. However, after gaining more of a family-friendly following as a judge on America's Got Talent, NBC may feel Stern is ready for a network show.

However, we have to take this news with a grain of salt since it's coming from Stern's people. Maybe NBC isn't ready to make the sure-to-be controversial announcement and maybe they are waiting until Leno is confirmed to leave, but as of this week, they've denied the rumor, saying the source was incorrect.

Hopefully, we'll hear a confirmed report on this front soon, but as we've learned with late night TV, nobody really knows what to expect and things can change on a dime at the last possible second. We'll keep you posted.

After helping bring Battlestar Galactica and Caprica to the network, Ronald D. Moore is returning to Syfy once again with Helix, a series about a team of scientists investigating the outbreak of a potentially deadly disease. If the 13-episode order didn't tell you how enthused Syfy was about the opportunity to work with Moore again, then check out what Mark Stern, Syfy's president of original content, had to say about the series:

“With its well-drawn characters, taut drama, and incredible production team, we couldn't be more excited to see this intense thrill-ride of a series come to life.”

Steven Maeda (Lost, CSI: Miami) has been tapped as the showrunner for Helix, which is written by Cameron Porsandeh. There is no word on who might be in the cast, but production on Helix is expected to begin in early 2013 with a debut date later in the year.
