Clint Morris over at Moviehole had a chance to visit the set of The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader and while perusing the Australian country-side, sat down with effects guru, Howard Berger, to talk with him about one of his upcoming projects, the Robert Rodriquez-produced Predators.
Morris, who got started in effects working with Stan Winston on the original Predator and Aliens movies, just received photos of the finished Predator(s) from his team in Los Angeles and says that they look “fantastic” and that the fans will be happy with the look of the Predator(s).

After Aliens vs. Predator and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem were released, fans weren’t all too happy with what was done to the look of their beloved, iconic Predator. What’s Morris’ angle that has him so confident?
”We wanted to have the Predator look as it did in the original film. We went back and looked at the original.”
Sure, it sounds so simple now, but two films completely ignored that philosophy and because of that thinking we received this monstrosity below:
This interview with Morris really made me feel confident in this project. Sure, Robert Rodriguez is involved, but I’ve come to put less significance in the whole “produced by” moniker than by the people actually, physically involved (Kevin Smith was a “producer” on Good Will Hunting). I’m glad to know that the person behind the decisions regarding the character design wants simply, as he says, “…to make sure we built them as Stan Winston did.”
Does this raise your hopes for the next Predator movie?
Predators will start filming soon with release in 2010.

Finally another Predator movie without the Aliens being brought into it..hopefully the greatness that was the first Predator movie can continue..
I’ll believe it when I see it but otherwise I’m skeptical.
I can only hope it’s like the original.
I accept the “look” of the new Predator, but that doesn’t mean the story or characters are going to be great. I am at least thankful they’ve left the Aliens vs. Predator concept alone. Great concept. Terrible execution.
Stan Winston is a movie god and should be recognized as so.
After 4 predator movies , i actually wouldn’t mind a movie where The predators are the main characters rather than seeing human always taking center stage.Even most of the comic are disappointing because it’s always bad ass predator come, kills lot of people get kill by the human protagonist, so lame.Take a cue from the avp games where you actually play as predator which is bad ass especially avp2 video game.
How ’bout some casting news guys?
Well with a-lot of people unhappy with the last couple of outings, I guess you need to go back to some core elements and pick up things that worked. I don’t know if too many people would go for a mostly silent film, no dialog, about Predators? Having skipped “AVSPR” I don’t have anything to base an opinion on how the home planet footage was handled. Would everyone here settle for a subtittled film about Predators? I see a fair amount of subbed films anyway, I don’t think that alone would keep me from seeing it. Some are sure to be put off by it, but maybe some little used techniques can make something up as different for a change. I know of one or two script ideas that could work, but I don’t think they would be popular.
the avp games did nothing compared to concrete jungles predator moves and weapons. compared too avp avp predator 2 predators will slay it will maybe be what aliens was to alien awesome in a different way….more violance ‘people thats what
predator should be make you puke from the skining of the lead guy.if your on a predator planet you better not leave with your skin on..if the lead lives and flys to earth then thats lame..predator should be the last man standing …

remember there was comic book where a lab owned by the company created hybrid alien/preds….i think the book was called breserker….i am not sure but a hell of a story, only these predaliens used predator and human weapons.
I would love that Old Man, what a daring approach yet alas I don’t think we will see that film,,,
However I’m looking forward to this new direction,,, Rodriquez knows what he’s doing, I have faith in him to do this justice.
