As I commented here almost a year ago the X-Files movie is still crawling forward. I will reiterate my prior thoughts by saying “Who Cares?”.
Over the course of the show, Chris Carter morphed into the girlfriend that forever promises that she’ll sleep with you, teasing you just enough to think that she will next time. X-Files started out awesome and continued that way for quite a few seasons, but after a while it seemed like there was nothing to the show but red herrings.
I can just picture him laughing at the gullibility of the fans who expected a resolution to the whole show with a final answer that would tie everything together.
Personally I hope the movie tanks.

They can take all the time they need. I’m sure the interest level will be very low, no matter when the movie comes out. And Duchovny is saying that the story will have nothing to do with aliens. I’m no X-Files expert, but who thought it was a good idea to take away a franchise’s entire premise? If Carter had ended the series on a high note (like Seinfeld did), the interest might still be there, but the last two or three seasons ran the series straight into the ground, and even the die-hard fans haven’t forgotten about that.

Rarely do series producers have the good sense that Seinfeld did as far as quitting while you’re on top.

I THOUGHT LONG AGO THEY COULD’VE MADE A FRANCHISE OUT OF THE X-FILES. AT LEAST BEFORE MR.CARTER DECIDED TO IMPLODE THE SERIES. SINCE DUCHOVNY’S HOPE OF FEATURE FILM LEAD ACTOR STATUS HAS FAILED..UH CAN WE SAY DAVID CARUSO, AND HIS HOUSE OF D IS MIRED IN MEDIOCRITY, HE SHOULD JUMP AT THE CHANCE.
