House Season 7 Premiere Review & Discussion

To say that last night’s sixth season finale of House was shocking would be an understatement. If it wasn’t Hannah’s ambulance ride that had your heart pounding, I’m sure the moment where House and Cuddy kissed certainly did.

However, fans have been through this before and they’re not just going to believe that what’s happening is real. Some believe that this could be a hallucination brought on by the fact that House, in fact, did take Vicodin.

So, in order to help calm some of the fans’ fears that this is but a mere fallacy, executive producer Katie Jacobs steps in and talks all about House and Cuddy’s relationship, where they may (or may not) take it as the series continues into its seventh season and whether this is a short or long-term endeavor.

Take a look at what Jacobs has to say about House and Cuddy’s relationship below.

On whether this is real or just another hallucination:

“This is real and something that they are going to try. It’s something they stayed away from for a long period of time because it’s dangerous and the consequences could be severe. But now they’re going to give it a try.”

On how they’re going to handle in seventh season premiere:

“Does the audience want us to pick up two or three months later? Or is the audience interested in us [picking up right where we left off]? And it’s really dependent on the narrative. Last year when House checked himself into the psychiatric hospital, I felt like it wouldn’t be good enough for the audience just to see him come out the other end and [return] to Princeton Plainsboro. Even though they knew he would [eventually] return there, I wanted everybody to see the moment after.”

“I’m certainly in the camp of not wanting to miss much after the fade to black. Because the truth is the challenges that are ahead for them are the things that kept them apart to begin with. It’s not chemistry or the spark. It’s “How are we going to deal with this? We’re going to be together. What does that look like?” Cuddy is his superior at the hospital. And she’s a mother. Those are the kind of things we’re going to have fun with.”

“We’re in the process of figuring all that out right now… But this isn’t just about the [season premiere]. This isn’t something that will work or fail in just one episode. We’re going to attempt to make a true exploration of this relationship.”

If an executive producer telling you that it’s real isn’t enough to make you believe, I don’t know what will.

That being said, I’m a little worried that when Jacobs said ”it’s dangerous and the consequences could be severe” that she was referring to the professional consequences for their characters and not the danger that comes with having the two star-crossed lovers finally getting together.

While this isn’t he first time it’s happened in television, many shows could point to a hookup such as this as the ultimate downfall in the series. Hopefully House won’t be one them.

What do you think about the future of House and Cuddy? Are you happy to know that it’s real? Should they pick up where they left off or skip ahead a bit? How do you think everyone else is going to react to their relationship? Could this be a bad decision for the series?

Don’t forget to tune into the seventh season of House, this fall, on Fox.

  1. I absolutly loved the last episode of the last season, it is a beautiful culmination of the development of House since getting off drugs and his great effort to be a better person. It also shows more of the true character than ever before, it also shows why he doesn’t deal with patients, because he is very compasionate and caring and sensitive but tries to hide it. I think it demonstrates that eventually there is a reward for positive changes even if it is not immediatley apparent. I think that this further development of character will make the series ever better.

  2. I’m not convinced that the series ending with House & Cuddy is necessarily a good thing, but I think season 7 will be interesting as I think the closer that House & Cuddy get the more each other will think that each other is manipulating each other or perhaps the more House will think things are going wrong. House is programmed by experience in life to expect bad things, its nothing something that disappears overnight. It will take a while for House to adjust to being in a relationship and for Cuddy to learn how to be in one with House.
It will be interesting as they wrestle with the basic human emotion, Love.

  3. A mi me encanta La pareja de House y Cuddy. Me gusta desde que empezó la serie. No aguanto ver a los tortolitos juntos en la temporada 7. Ver a House enamorado, que lindo y extraño ala vez!

  4. The whole idea behind house is his character likes bein miserable. The numerous times Wilson and Cuddy and even foreman have said this suggests that no matter what he gets, it won’t be good enough.
House and Cuddy will be a great exploration tool to keep the show interesting, but if they keep them together, house will lose what has made us all love him, his smart ass, ‘devil-may-care’ attitude, who cares more about the puzzles than the patients, and more about the problems than the solutions. The chase to get Cuddy is the puzzle or the problem, getting Cuddy is the solution, By making House just accept this solution means they are (regrettable for some of us) stripping a part of him that we have all grown fond of, whether it be consciously or subconsciously.
Simply, i love the idea and am looking forward to seeing it, but i hope it isn’t forever.

  5. What is with you people?! For SIX years, you wanted Cuddy and House together and when they are you want them apart! House is House no matter what happens in his life. The spoiler for Season 7 on youtube proves this. He’s still gonna be brilliant, and a smart-ass, and a jerk (“yes, he’s THAT good”). I disagree that he cares more about puzzles than patients. He doesn’t allow himself to see patients because he would become too involved with them, which would cloud his judgement. A thing he points out in his colleagues. The gruffness only hides that fact, Gotta play the tough guy. He isn’t really and now, even without Cuddy as a love interest, he was getting softer. I for one can’t wait to see him happy. Who said that it has to change him? If anything it will add complications that will give this character more depth. There is sooo much to this man that what meets your eye. look deeper. Be not afraid.

    • I completely agree, i have waited season after season to see them together and was so disappointed when i found out it wasnt real. but i would be upset if they changed how his character is… a complete jerk, cause then he isnt house anymore and its just some other tv show. when he does get in with patients he does have a soft side which we saw in i believe the seasn finale with the lady trapped under the building, he was determined not only to prove he was right but he also does want to help and the fact that he stayed there shows his soft side which we have seen before with him but he doesnt let it get the best of. all in all if house changes the show changes cause he wont be house anymore. yea he will be happy because he finally landed cuddy after how long, but she is accustomed to how rude and manipulative he is they seem absolutey perfect. them together will only make for a more interesting show. he was how he was when they werent together imagine how crazy he will be when they are what kind of stupid inappropiate crap he will say.

      • fear not,,,i hope. i just a beginner in watching “house”. genius has it’s bad side,,,one is that the individual is trapped by his own genius. he must succumb to it to be what he is. if house were to change(personality) so would his genius. it would be fragmented and unfocused.

interestingly, this might be an interesting subplot to explore. house falls in love,,,thus house must share his life,,,that and his genius cannot be reconciled,,,his genius has a will of it’s own and house ultimately chooses it because,,,,,,,,he is who he is.

    • There relationship should roll like huge waves. All the while there should be a unavoidable chaotic distraction going on. The kind that challenges the audience to “keep up”.

      Good Luck Season 7.

    • There relationship should roll like huge waves. All the while there should be a unavoidable chaotic distraction going on around them. The kind that challenges the audience to “keep up”.

      Good Luck Season 7.

    • I caught your allusion there. “Be not afraid.” Very funny.

      • :)

    • I would love to see how this goes. If it all fails they could easily make it all fake and then start over. IF it succeeds then we have the same awesome show.

  6. i think they should start where they left off.. i would lik too see what happens and if it could really work out. i am very happy they are together. they are amazing!!

  7. Oh man, I can’t wait!! And they should definitely start where they left off! And personally, I would LOVE to see flashbacks from how they first met :D

  8. I am tired of House being nasty, especially to Cuddy. I want to see a change in how he treats her.

  9. i do not see this going well at all this very large issues that house still has is going to play it’s role big time in this season and if this relationship end’s i see house having no other choice but to relapse. his best friend tossed him out(but who is to blame him) one of his employees is on her way out seemingly. now of all times he is taking a huge chance at love with a woman who i don’t think is going to be able to give him the attention he is going to require. we already saw his temptation to get high. this of the effect this relations will take on him. That’s what i thing the comment “dangerous and the consequences could be severe” are all about.

  10. i just luv them both. plz start it from where u left was just dyin to watch them together n give poor cuddy a baby wid house

  11. The reason that couples getting together ends shows is the happily ever after feel. With weaker shows, the story ends as soon as it seems like everythings going to be alright. The difference with house and cuddy is that this is by no means happily ever after. There’s going to be a shitload of problems now, because house is still house, and you can bet your ass he’s the same jerk he was, just a little happier. And the two of them as a couple are going to an interesting, albeit bizarre, dynamic, that I personally cannot wait to see.

    • Happily ever afters “are for sissies!”

  12. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of this pairing all that much. (I was hoping for House/Wilson, actually…) But, I could see things getting interesting. I’ll be looking forward to next season.~

    • That’s Sick

    • Agreed. House/Wilson would be such a fresh twist. We’ve been expecting House/Cuddy from day one, so it’s already old and it’s only just started. Plus, I’d love to see a character who doesn’t identify as gay, doesn’t define himself as gay, but happens to fall in love with a man.

      • Me thinking that House/Wilson would be awesome is no different than straight guys drooling over Thirteen having a lesbian relationship. Which happened, if you’ll recall.

        • yakana,

FYI, I deleted the comment of the person you replied to. Hadn’t noticed it or I would have deleted it sooner.

  13. I think House will ultimately end up with Cameron in Season 9. Why? Because enough time has lapsed between season 2 and 9 for Cameron to grow up, realize she CAN’T fix everyone, still be able to deal with House and his over inflated sense of self and finally be the missing part to him. I always felt Cameron would be better for him but only AFTER Cameron grew up. Her failed relationship with Chase helped her rise a couple notches, her naivete has slowly been whittled away, yet she still brings out the better part of people. Cuddy just seems a little too needy, a little too weepy, a little too emotionally unstable for House. And of course, being his boss is NOT a good thing, As the old saying goes, you don’t eat where you sh*t.

    • And how is dating Cameron not eating where you go to the bathroom? He’s her boss. That makes it just as bad as dating Cuddy.

    • well actually season 7 is the last season that cameron will be be on the show

  14. hell yea go house and cuddy… I have been waiting a while for them to to get together I think it will work come on. they have been beating around the bush for years… Let it happen and let it work

  15. I 100% agree with the producers decision to try out the Huddy ship once & for all. The sexual tension has been there for years, and after the fake-out hook up, it’s only fair they give it an honest try. These two people are incredibly complex on their own, let alone together they will make for great television! Why not let each other find happiness? For those who worry about the future of House– Who ever said you can’t be happy without being yourself? House will always be House, nothing will change that, and six seasons has proved even Cuddy cannot change him, she doesn’t want to. You love who you love! I will be looking forward to the drama of Season 7, the medical mysteries, the future for the team, Thirteen’s struggle with Huntington’s disease, and surely House, Cuddy and baby Rachel’s relationships!

Let’s face it, Cuddy is definitely one hot woman, and House certainly knows he has a good thing going for him now. Especially after watching the woman/husband interaction at the end of Season Six, and then looking over at Cuddy. He’s not about to screw that up.

  16. i really want them to get married

  17. well dont care if they get married or not, what am interested to know ,whether house final scene was the vicodin talkin or was it really cuddy,it’ll be really bad if house is on vico. again.

anyways truly the best drama-series ive ever watched.

  18. They should pick up where they started off

  19. Delighted to see them get
together. I hope they dont loose how sarcastic they were to each other, and the games they played. The chemistry has to be kept alive, and we want to be wanting more of HUDDY

  20. In my opinion, this is perfect. All along, the perfect couples on House would have to be:
    Wilson-Who Cares
    Taub-B*tch Wife

I have been waiting for Huddy to happen for 6 SEASONS.
Season 7 is going to be mindblowing.
I don’t think he’s just going to let it go, remember what he did to House and Wilson’s apartment last time he was mad?
Now House has taken his woman.
I’m getting excited just thinking about it! >.<

    • I think that they should explore how Lucas will react. He’s a detective, he could pull up some firt on House, like maybe he fathered a child. Katie said that they are bringing back Lydia a little later in the season, so who knows.
Yes they are picking up right where they left off.
and big YES, Hugh did deserve to win this year’s Emmy! I think it is all politics. They should have had the fans vote, Hugh would have won by a landslide….. a long time ago!!!! Right all?

      20 days and counting!….

    • The focus of the show has always been on House. The way he is, the people, including the patients around him. What is more boring than having a person cough-up blood, get diagnosed, mis-diagnosed, mis-diagnosed again, then House magically finds out what is wrong and saves the day. OR seeing House not deal with his vicodin addition. At least they are trying to go in a different direction. I think we will find it interesting to see how this man deals with a true relationship, lacking the social skill which barely allows him to eat with a knife and fork.
I’ve said this before, I don’t think the relationship will last because I think for House it’s more lust than love. With Stacy and Lydia, he acted differently, he was more loving, more serious, and the break-ups hurt him. With Cuddy, it’s more looking at ass and breasts than the longing to be with her.

      • what is more boring you ask??? Cameron and her need to find herself and/or try and fix everyone. There is and never will be anything boring about house and the way he gets his answer and the manner in which he handles his patients. If everyone on here will grow up assuming you are over eighteen, House is Brilliant, and shame on those judges for not giving him the Emmy

  23. Oh, for heaven’s sake. I’m just glad they are finally having some happiness and fun together. I’d like to see Cameron return, because I believe she loves Chase, and be happy too. Can’t we explore some joy between them as well as the difficulties they will face (House and Cuddy)?
Sorry Laurie did not get the Emmy. What does he have to DO to get an Emmy for this role? They don’t have much sense, those judges, imho.

    • Are they still together. I havnt watched any new ones in awhile.

  24. WOW! Season six made me a House fan because it showed that this lunatic genius really has a human side. Huddy chemistry has captivated the interest of the hopelessly romantic, and even the skeptical. I look foward to seeing the
development of the Huddy relationship in much more depth. I think being in love will make House much more human and real. As long as it is not overdone, I feel this relationship can add spice to the series and numerous new problems for the characters to conquer. The medical aspect of the show has gotten a little repetitive though. I am hoping they also spice it up with new diseases, weird diagnosis and treatments and tone down the constant struggles with the drug addiction. House is a medical genius, if this aspect of his personality remains the main focus of the series, I think we will see much more of House in the years to come.

  25. I am really looking forward to seeing how House is going to deal with Rachel. I think she will bring out a softer side in him which will help him with his relationship with Cuddy. But even though House always seemed against Cuddy getting a kid, I think he kind of likes her because remember when Cuddy brought her into House’s office that time and he was holding her? he looked kind of fatherly there. Although I don’t think Cuddy will trust him with her at first because she doesn’t know how he will react to her.
And I really want to see how Lucas will deal with it. He probably won’t stay friends with House, which is sad because I think Lucas is a better friend than Wilson, even though Wilson is closer to House. Lucas doesn’t question him as much, and Wilson is always trying to do ‘the right thing’. I also want to see how everyone else, like the team and Wilson will react.

  26. I love it. I cannot wait to see what happens when EVERYONE finds out they are together. I think its time we got to see how House will act with a special someone by his side. I will be stuck to my TV. Love it.

    • i find it kinda cool (i think) but i no what happens in seson 7
sadly its not that exsiting house keeps on stealing flowers and gifst from paicentss and give them all to cuddy lol XD

  27. I think season seven was more about the caracters and less about the paitents, I love house, have been a fan for years. Cuddy and House together is brillant and can work with ups. The first epesode of season seven needs to start from when season six left off. you cant miss anything. son hurry up already and bring it on…….
