‘Hotel Transylvania’ Trailer: Dracula Has Human Problems

Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania has some promising things going for it – a collection of classic movie monsters, the direction of animation icon Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter’s Laboratory), and an all-star voice cast including, Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Cee-Lo (The Mummy), Steve Buscemi, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg and Fran Drescher.

The first trailer for Hotel Transylvania teased a classic spin on the cliched story, by having a human show up in a monster’s castle – only to terrify the monsters trying to vacation there in peace. This new trailer, however, paints something of a much more… shall we say, fluffy? Picture.

Dracula (Sandler) as a daddy? Parenting drama masked as a comedic monster movie? Another teaming of Andy Samberg and Adam Sandler after the not-so-well-received That’s My Boy? Yes, Hotel Transylvania appears to be all of the above. Fans of Genndy Tartakovsky will also note that the cartoon auteur’s (is that a thing? Or did we just invent a thing?) distinctive style is not as prominent in this footage as some may have expected (hoped?).

Does this bode ill for the film? Not entirely. There does appear to be enough humor in the script, and some nice (regardless of the style) animation that has been properly designed for some cool 3D sequences. The actors voicing iconic monsters (can’t wait for Jon Lovitz’ Quasimodo) should also be some good fun – and surely both parents and the kids with them in attendance should be able to relate to the themes being explored in the film.

Could be a fun daddy/daughter date.

Hotel Transylvania will be in theaters on September 21, 2012.

  1. Yes first post. looks promising

    • Sorry, I’m fresh out of cookies. Perhaps doggie treats?

Aside from that, yes it does look like it will be a fun film.

  2. I am in for a ride !
    Colors look Fantastic here !

  3. Looks gud ill c it

  4. Looks very good for an animated film!! I will check it out. Adam Sandler needs a “hit” these days!!

  5. Looked cute is what I’ll say. The little moments with Dracula and his daughter when she was growing up were rather adorable.

I can’t blame him for not liking Jonathan though. Aside from being human, he doesn’t seem too bright and comes across as downright irritating to be honest.

  6. Gonna be the crazyiest thing since Rankln-Basses Mad,Mad,Mad Monster party. And this looks like it will be even better.
