Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is designed to launch other spinoffs. The first offshoot from the automobile-centric franchise focuses on Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw - joining the series via Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6 respectively. Directed by David Leitch, the film debuted a Fresh Score on Rotten Tomatoes, exciting fans all over. And if all goes well with the project, the public can expect more films stemming from this new movie.

Hobbs & Shaw is devoid of appearance from the main cast of the Fast & Furious franchise. That makes sense considering that the film is establishing a world outside of Dominic Toretto and his crew, but Johnson's public conflict with Vin Diesel also has something to do with it. In any case, it seems that the film has more than enough characters to stand on its own and maybe even launch some more spinoffs.

Speaking with Screen Rant during the press junket for Hobbs & Shaw, Leitch and writer Chris Morgan revealed that they designed the film as a launching pad for potentially new films. And based on their additional comments, they already have a pretty good idea what these possible spinoffs could be.

David Leitch: My intention was, and I hope that the studio hears that, is that we wanted to build a world that was fertile ground for spin-offs. When I came on board, the idea was, "How can I immediately with this film, strike a pose to build out Hobbs' and Shaw's individual worlds so that they could do their own their own films?" But then also, characters in that world could have the ability to do their own, as well.

And if you look at it, we have movie stars in this movie. Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, these other people we can't mention. You realize that there's potential for a lot of avenues for just the Hobbs and Shaw universe to go.

Chris Morgan: "Hopefully the audience responds to that, and if so, we have many other adventures. And frankly, I'd like to see that done with the other characters as well. I'd like to know what makes , more of the Fast world tick."

"If the world wants to see more of it, we have some really fun ideas."

Vanessa Kirby in Fast and Furious Presents Hobbs and Shaw

Essentially, Hobbs & Shaw is building their own franchise as they veer farther away from the Fast & Furious main saga. And considering that the latter has officially decided on its endpoint, this is a good way to continue making these films past wrapping up Dom's story. Given the massive appeal of the franchise, not to mention the involvement of blockbuster-tested stars, it's not difficult to imagine that Hobbs & Shaw ultimately becomes the crowning jewel of this franchise with several other spinoffs surrounding it.

Of course, the possibility of all of this happening still mainly hinges on whether or not the upcoming project will prove itself in the box office. Assuming that Universal Pictures did everything right on Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw chances are that they will be willing to move forward with another offshoot. As Leitch and Morgan said, separate standalone films for Hobbs and Shaw seem to be the main goal. But with newbies like Vanessa Kirby's Hattie Shaw and Idris Elba's Brixton Lore, they could also headline their own outings down the road.
