[UPDATE: We've added a new set photo from Riddick.]
Few things give film geeks (us included) more pleasure than being able to pore over still frames from upcoming blockbusters – and, in the process, (over)analyze everything from the costumes on display to the angle the photos were shot at.
It’s for that reason that, yet again, we’ve gathered together new images from several movies on the horizon, including this summer’s action sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Ridley Scott’s Alien-verse flick Prometheus – and hi-res, non-watermarked, versions of previously-unveiled pics from the first Hobbit movie (courtesy of director Peter Jackson).
While the intriguing questions and themes explored in Scott’s new blend of sci-fi and horror sound promising, it’s at least a guarantee that Prometheus will look fantastic. The filmmaker has previously discussed how he’s utilizing 3D technology to truly immerse viewers in the movie’s darkly beautiful, yet disturbing, futuristic world of spaceships and mysterious extraterrestrials. Suffice it to say, Prometheus very much appears to be a movie that demands a viewing in theaters, in order to truly appreciate its spectacular visuals – and experience the full impact of its macabre imagery.
The latest batch of Prometheus pics appears to be a combination of conceptual artwork and actual still frames from the film. Check that out, below:

G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Thanks to an exhilarating trailer and images that reveal improved costume designs, G.I. Joe fans are (in general) pretty excited to see director Jon Chu’s re-invention of the Joe live-action universe. Indeed, one of the aspects that’s proven pivotal in generating excitement for Retaliation is that characters like Snake Eyes (Ray Park), Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson), and even the diabolical Cobra Commander look like real-life incarnations of those characters from the 1980s G.I. Joe cartoon series. Chu’s decision to tone down the cheese factor from Stephen Sommers’ G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra should (at least) pan out well, in that regard.
For more proof of that: check out Byung-hun Lee looking badass as Storm Shadow in the latest Retaliation image:
G.I. Joe: Retaliation hits theaters in the U.S. on June 29th, 2012.

The next chapter in Vin Diesel’s Chronicles of Riddick franchise (now titled… Riddick) has officially wrapped principal photography, and writer/director David Twohy (The Chronicles of Riddick) posted a picture to mark the end of the journey. For those who don’t know, the threequel finds Riddick (Vin Diesel) on a distant planet being hunted by beasts, bounty hunters and whatever else in the universe wants a piece of him.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Most people’s attention is fixed on the impending slate of Summer 2012 blockbusters right now, but buzz around Peter Jackson’s return to Middle-earth will become all the more frenzied later this year. While the scenery and sets glimpsed from both Hobbit movies appear to be as impeccably fantastical as those from Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy adaptation, some fans haven’t been crazy about how the filmmakers are realizing the eccentric crew of dwarves from J.R.R. Tolkien’s source material. We’ll have to wait and see if those folk (Tolkien purists?) change their song upon seeing more of the characters in motion, of course.
As mentioned before, all but maybe one of these new Hobbit images have been released in some form before. Now, of course, you can check them out in high-resolution (and minus those pesky watermarks).
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D screens in the U.S. on December 14th, 2012.
