The Great Gatsby movie with Robert Redford followed the book word for word.

But yah, normally it’s hard to make a movie that follows a novel without the movie being 16 hours long, lol.

I agree with you about the experience of that fantastical world Peter Jackson created. I just re-read ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ , and even though I love the books, I love Peter Jackson’s interpretation of the feeling of Middle Earth, and I am not one of those who complains that characters were left out,or re invented.

Films and books are two separate art forms that should be enjoyed individually, or together, but never compared unless it is a REALLY accurate adaption that pleases everyone! Truthfully,has that EVER happened?

GONE WITH THE WIND,maybe, and TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD…LITTLE WOMEN?

LORD OF THE RINGS really was a beautiful cinematic experience.

I know THE HOBBIT will probably be on a smaller scale but I am hoping for glimpses of that fantastical world.

They don’t really expect to win or lose the lawsuit, they expect an out of court settlement. It has NOTHING to do with breach of contract or how good or bad the movies are or how good or bad they think the new movies will be. It’s about getting as much $$ as they can get, and that’s just it.

As for the lawsuit, we all know what happened last time. Hah. I’m not worried.

Though, I do wish the Tolkien family could appreciate the movies more… they are as good as it can get, ah well.

You can’t really compare Hobbit to LoTR, it’s like comparing oranges and apples. They were different stories.

That being said, still taking place in the same world, and one I’ll be looking forward to “returning to.”

Oh man! Now I’m hearing about a lawsuit….AGAIN…from the estate of Tolkien against Time Warner that may delay, even kill, this project. I read it on ComicBookMovie, so I’m not sure if this is real or not but I’m hoping it’s not. According to that site, Tolkien’s estate is suing for $220 million and the rights to kill any project associated with LOTR. They state that Time/Warner was in breach of contract.

I prefer the Hobbit over LOTR as far as the books go. It has the advantage of having a believable secondary conflict after the main one is resolved unlike LOTR (good thing the movie skipped it).

It’ll be interesting to see Smaug on screen though but I’m not as eager about this as I was about LOTR. I guess I’m assuming it’ll have the same look.

Great news on this film (films!). The Lord of the Rings trilogy is (IMO) the best I’ve seen. Filming a supposedley unfilmable book (books) and creating a classic.
One of my simple pleasures is sitting down on a day off work to watch all three extended editions back to back in one go. Takes 12hrs with breaks for drinks and pizza!
Jackson has got a great partner in Del Toro to bring the brilliant book (better than LOTR I think) The Hobbit to life and I too can’t wait.
I just hope they keep Howard Shore for the music. His score for the trilogy was beautiful and was as integral as the actors/Jackson/effects in bringing Middle Earth to life.
Roll on 2011.

You know gottarhyme, I know in another thread I commenting on just how long the LOTR movies are and how I might not be able to sit through them more than once, I do have to say that the way they can create a whole new world that’s so fantastical, I do actually enjoy that feeling of getting immersed in a world so different than our own, escapism I guess it’s called. And seeing these pics of the rolling green hills I do miss that experience. I’ll probably be seeing these movies in the theaters, I only saw LOTR 3 in theaters, the rest I saw on DVDs borrowed from a friend.

But 2011, come on, 2010 looks to be a very boring year other than IM2… We need something else in 2010…
