Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson have both had long and varied acting careers, especially in both the action and superhero genres. Ryan Reynolds has become most famously known for the blockbuster success that was the Deadpool movie, which is speeding forward with a much anticipated sequel. Samuel L. Jackson has become associated over the years with his role of Nick Fury from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now both are teaming up in the upcoming action film, The Hitman’s Bodyguard.

Screen Rant got a chance to talk with Ryan and Samuel on press day, where we discussed how much was ad libbed, how Avengers and Deadpool might have helped prepared them for The Hitman’s Bodyguard, and whether or not there will be time travel in Deadpool 2.

This movie was so much fun and you guys have great chemistry. Was there anything that happened to be not on the page that you guys ad libbed together?

Ryan Reynolds: Uh…

Samuel L. Jackson: You know what? I’m sure there are. There are things just because the skeleton was great and Darius was originally written as an Irish man.

Really?

Samuel L. Jackson: [laughs] Yeah. So it was like, well, read it and make it your own. And that’s what we did. So we would fix things or get things going or things would happen that we could embellish and carry on. It’s just a matter of remembering.

Ryan, you do a pretty funny Sam impression.

Ryan Reynolds: Wow.

Could you give me a little of that? [laughs]

Ryan Reynolds: Absolutely not. You better see the movie to see my Sam impression.

[points to Samuel L. Jackson] I love the look on your face.

Samuel L. Jackson: You got a Samuel impression?

Ryan Reynolds: Don’t you dare. Yeah.

Samuel L. Jackson: Can I go somewhere online to find that?

Ryan Reynolds: Yeah. Probably. At this point already…

Another thing is you guys got two huge movies coming out pretty soon. I know Avengers and Captain Marvel and Deadpool. Did this help you at all to prepare for that stuff? I mean, you guys have been doing this stuff for awhile now, but did it help you get into that mindset?

Samuel L. Jackson: I didn’t think about that movie.

Ryan Reynolds: No. I don’t, none of that crossed paths at all.

Samuel L. Jackson: It wasn’t on my radar when we were doing the movie. Avengers, I had no idea if I was going to be in it or not and I still don’t and I knew Captain Marvel was down the pipe, but that is still 7-8 months away, so I don’t think about those. I’m more concerned about what’s happening next like glass if anything else.

What about yourself?

Ryan Reynolds: Yeah. Same as Sam. They don’t mix. You know, you don’t think about it. You sort of focus on the thing that you are doing at the time.

Sam, I got a question for you. Who’s more of a badass? Darius or Nick Fury in your opinion?

Samuel L. Jackson: Hm. Nick Fury. I mean, Nick’s a part of the Dark Universe. You know what I mean? Dude’s got some stuff with him. Darius is just dangerous But Nick is a little bit more, I would use the word, nefarious because he’s a part of governmental dark crap.

And question for you, Ryan. If you were to go on a road trip with Nick Fury or Darius, who would you choose?

Ryan Reynolds: On a road trip? Darius because I like, this guy is a wise guy. You know? He’s a guy who understands women. He understands relationships and what he does for my character in the movie and driving him around.

Samuel L. Jackson: And I’m sure I don’t eat as healthy as Nick Fury.

Ryan Reynolds: Yeah. No. Definitely not.

Samuel L. Jackson: I eat at better roadside burger joints than Nick.

Ryan Reynolds: Yeah. The Marvel diet is not good for any road trip at all.

Samuel L. Jackson: Yeah. The Marvel diet is not mmmm. Nick would probably want to stop at the gym and workout.

Ryan Reynolds: No. Exactly. Get a few reps in.

Just a random question about Deadpool. Are we going to see any time travel in that movie at all with Cable?

Ryan Reynolds: It is possible.

Samuel L. Jackson: [gasps]

Ryan Reynolds: Your answers will all be, they’ll be soon. They’ll be coming soon.
