The Other Guys Hilarious The Other Guys Trailer

One of the most anticipated comedies of the year may soon be the upcoming Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg buddy cop film The Other Guys. Along with a supporting cast of Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson, the movie looks great on a number of levels. And now we’ve got a trailer to prove it may end up being one of the funnier R-rated comedies of the 2010.

Adam McKay will direct the film with his Land of the Lost co-creator Chris Henchy– Wait! Don’t leave yet. From the looks of it, The Other Guys may be just what the pair needs to get moviegoers back on their side after that flop of a remake. While the story sounds like a mix between Lethal Weapon and the most recent Get Smart, everything we’ve seen to this point lends itself to a great comeback.

Clearly, the studio is doing everything in their power to hold back on the language in the trailer, but find it tremendously difficult. Don’t be surprised if a red-band version comes out quite soon. If ever a TV-friendly teaser seemed out of place, this is it. For example, an awkward double-take moment comes when Jackson yells, “Hey! If I want to hear you talk, I will shove my arm and work your mouth like a puppet.” Hilarious, but weird and clearly missing a chunk of interesting content given the specific hand motion Jackson gives.

Yes, that is Michael Keaton.

We recently showed you the motion poster as campaigning for the film began to heat up.  Today, Yahoo! released the first for The Other Guys, full of border-line content and angry Marky Mark.

Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson’s characters are getting much more screen time than expected and they shine throughout it all, apparently having a great time letting loose. The two take their roles to a level of satire that bleeds chemistry.

By the end of the trailer, it felt more like The Expendables than Lethal Weapon, with bad-asses doing what they do best. It’s a pleasure to see Johnson using his funny side for good, rather than for children.

Will Ferrell Mark Wahlberg The Other Guys Hilarious The Other Guys Trailer

Say what you will about Will Ferrell’s comedic style, but not everybody thinks it has gone stale. Be that as it may, he actually seems to be taking on a new approach with his character in The Other Guys. Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg is slightly channeling his character from The Departed. The two look like a creative balance without a real “straight” character. With Wahlberg’s recent hilarious cameo role in Date Night, it seems the man has a hidden knack for inducing laughter.

If you want the only bad news I could think of, Paris Hilton and Derek Jeter are listed in the cast.

The Other Guys releases August 6, 2010.

  1. I thought they were going for a PG-13 rating with this movie. So why would there be a red band trailer?

    • it is pg13

  2. well it is not yet rated, but that trailer wants to break out as an 'R' so bad.

    • it is not rated R it is PG13 for crude and sexual content violence and some drug use

  3. I'm in.

  4. Well, I wouldn't get your hopes up. I'm just going by what Will Ferrell said.

  5. oh, interesting. i sure hope not. just seems like the type of comedy that needs a hard-R…but i recognize the mass appeal of the actors involved and why a PG-13 works. But they should take a page from The Hangover and realize R can make money.

  6. Something to remember though is that Anchorman and Talladega Nights were released PG-13 but had unrated DVDs with plenty more f-bombs in them.

  7. Looks like a lot of fun.

  8. funny!

  9. Man, I do love Eva Mendes

  10. me 2 . . . . . I would love to have THAT ball & chain…….

  11. The more I hear about this movie the more I look forward to it! cant wait to see this!
