Way back last year we brought you news that Iron Man scripters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway were penning the script for Summit Entertainment’s Highlander reboot. Now we finally have news about who is directing and producing the 21st Century Highlander update. Here’s a clue – they’re Fast and they’re Furious.
Yes – Fast and Furious director Justin Lin and blossoming super-producer Neal H. Moritz will call the shots on the Highlander remake.
The original Highlander told the tale of a 16th Century Scotsman – a highlander – who is immortal. He and other “immortals” fight through the ages in order to win “The Prize.” The only way that they can be killed is to be decapitated. Highlander starred Christopher Lambert and screen legend Sean Connery.

Patrick Wachsberger, co-chairman of Summit Entertainment had this to say :
“We are privileged to have this amazing opportunity to reinvent one of the great franchises. Neal and Justin have proven more than once that they can deliver an entertaining and exciting blockbuster.”
I can only imagine that Wachsberger would like another successful franchise to sit along Twilight in the studio vaults.
Peter Davis, the producer of the original film (and it’s three sequels) will also produce the reboot. With regards to Lin’s and Moritz’s attachment Davis said:
“Justin and Neal are an exciting directing/producing team and I am confident that they will deliver a truly dynamic film while being totally respectful of Highlander Legend.”
Now that the behind the camera talent is set for this new Highlander tale, all eyes can turn to casting.
Will Vin Diesel replace Clancy Brown as The Kurgan? Will Paul Walker be working on a Scottish accent so that he can replace Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod? Or will mooted choice Kevin McKidd get to wield a sword in a kilt?
Who knows at this stage – but considering that the film now has a director and producer, as well as the fact that Art Marcum and Matt Holloway have been attached to the film since May 2008, implies that we might be finding out very soon.

At first when I read the title I was like “NOOOOOOooo!!!!111″
Dammit, they’re going to reboot HIGHLANDER??? One of my favorite Christopher Lambert movies???
But when I read that Kevin McKidd might take the role… Now I’m interested… I think Kevin McKidd will feel right at home playing a character with a sword, lol.
I think they should use Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Connor McCleod he’s got the accent and he’s really cute.

i nominate Kevin Durand.
he is Huge and Extreemly tall.
and has that Kurgan-esque look to him.
and with him playing “Gabriel” in the upcoming movie “Legion”.
shows he can weild a weapon.

A reboot isn’t necessarily a bad thing because we get to see Highlander with newer technology. It could be very cool.

Im torn. Highlander is a classice BUT I’d watch if they did “reboot” it.
I don’t really trust Summit with it.

Geez I didn’t realize you guys were so sensitive. I also do enjoy Jonathan Rhys Meyers acting style and I haven’t seen anything with McKidd. I Goggled him and he does closely resemble the actor who originaly played Connor McLeod so I guess if that’s who they went with that would be fine.
@Ken J… I had the exact same reaction. Soon as I saw Kevin McKidd’s name, I got interested. I’d be willing to give this a chance with him in it.
For those that haven’t seen anything with Kevin McKidd in it, you really need to rent or buy seasons one and two of “Rome.” Arguably, one of the best TV shows ever made, and he was a strong part of that.
Don’t waste your money renting it, just buy both seasons.

I would be up for a Highlander remake/reboot if and that is a big IF, it’s done right. a cameo from Christopher Lambert or Adrian Paul would be cool also. And keep the lightning for the Quickening.
I personally would love see, Jonathan Rhys Meyers play the part of Connor, (Yes his is hot.)and yes he can bring it.
if they’re going to recast this movie my best choice would be thomas jane. he looks somewhat like christopher lambert and he was good in the punisher movie.
Besides it being a REALLY bad idea I didn’t see any comments about the problem of music.
Now that Queen is no more this just can’t be allowed to happen.

It’s “There can BE only ONE”, not the other way around.
And it’s a stupid idea. The original was excellent; there’s no need to remake it. Hollywood seem obsessed these days with remaking old films instead of producing original material. What a waste of resources.
The original will always be there, so do the reboot. Queen was perfect for the soundtrack; can’t imagine who could do a better job. The actor who played the Kurgan was fantastic (especially his voice) but Durand could probably pull it off. My choice for McCleod: McKidd or Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman.

Hugh Jackman as Connor McCloud….hmmm…..I like that idea!! I doubt it will happen as he probably wants too much money. Kevin McKidd sounds good to me. I’m not totally against this, and instead of a soundtrack like the original, why not a classic soundtrack from John Williams? Highlander can definitely use a classical soundtrack. The material almost SCREAMS for it, but instead we’ll probably get Kanye West or Jay-Z. BLECH!
Definitely go with some kind of orchestrial original music for this. Using crap, oops, I mean rap as the music will completely ruin it. They might as well cast “50 cent” (read fitty sent because idiots can’t pronounce things right) as McLeod and Snoop Dog to replace Connery’s character…
Lambert for Ramirez. That’s my vote.

If they have Lambert as Ramirez, it’ll seem too much like a sequel, I assure you some people will be confused. Heck, they can bring Sean Connery back, lol.
