Henry Cavill Talks ‘Justice League,’ ‘Batman/Superman’ & ‘Man of Steel 2′

Henry Cavill Talks Batman and Superman Movie Henry Cavill Talks Justice League, Batman/Superman & Man of Steel 2

With Man of Steel – Zack Snyder’s cinematic reboot of the Superman franchise – practically in theaters at this point (give or take a week), questions about potential films that’ll follow in its wake seem to be at the forefront of everyone’s mind. Will it be the oft-discussed Justice League film in 2015? Will it be a Batman/Superman crossover? Or will the Warner Bros. powers-that-be forgo all of that in favor of Man of Steel 2?

As with most films, it likely depends on what happens with this one first. Still, Henry Cavill has some ideas of his own about where he’d like to see the DC movie universe go in the next few years (some of which he’s already shared).

On the sort of Man of Steel follow-up Cavill would prefer to see – courtesy of IGN – he said:

“Well, if any of these things were to happen – which I don’t know if they are, I don’t know if they’ve even been spoken about – I think, ultimately, a ‘Justice League’ movie could be fun, but to get to that stage, you have to do other movies in between. You can’t just suddenly have a world full of gods when one god has just arrived.

So – how do you get to that stage? I think a ‘Batman/Superman’ movie would be great because it brings that world together. Whether they’re going to let that happen, I don’t know. But a sequel to continue ['Man of Steel'] would certainly be amazing…and maybe start introducing some other things. Every single one of those…[which comes] next? I don’t know.”

Yes, sure, Henry Cavill says that he’s merely speculating, but it’s hard to believe that he’s heard absolutely nothing about potential Superman-related films that could be coming down the pike if Man of Steel is successful.

Henry Cavill as Superman Henry Cavill Talks Justice League, Batman/Superman & Man of Steel 2

Regardless, it seems to be more and more apparent that a Justice League movie coming immediately on the heels of MoS just isn’t in the cards. And Cavill isn’t the only person to downplay the possibility – Zack Snyder also recently indicated that the previously reported 2015 release date is out of the question (while simultaneously voicing excitement about the idea of a Batman/Superman crossover). Might a Batman/Superman – or World’s Finest – film be next in line instead? Is it the most sensible choice?

Fans may recall that a Batman Vs. Superman film was already in the works back in the early 2000s with Wolfgang Petersen directing and Colin Farrell/Christian Bale and Jude Law/Josh Hartnett as Batman and Superman, respectively. The film (which was visually referenced in I Am Legend) was pretty far along when contractual complications forced Petersen to abandon it for the Greek war movie Troy starring Brad Pitt.

‘Batman Vs. Superman’ in ‘I Am Legend’

Going with a Batman/Superman movie after Man of Steel wouldn’t exactly be replicating Marvel’s Phase 1, 2, 3 formula, but it’s a lot more in line with that than moving straight to the team-up payoff like they originally intended to do. And of course, there’s nothing that says Warners can’t have concurrent film productions for the other Justice League members (Flash, Wonder Woman, et cetera) to pad the ranks.

What do you think, Screen Ranters? After Man of Steel, would you prefer to see Man of Steel 2, Batman/Superman, or a Justice League film? Drop us a line in the comments.

  1. World Finest would be the most sensible move for me. That way they can also reboot batman without going thru his origins again. Agree?

    • I agree. We should start off with him already a few years into his career, having fought multiple villains of his own. Some are locked up, others on the loose, some yet to surface. Give a brief overview of his history. We should have Robin(Dick Grayson) introduced and perhaps have Mr. Freeze or Clayface show up. I think Freeze can be a good villain if done right. His movie should take place during the winter so the final battle could have him fight batman without his suit. The whole movie he’d wear it and be slow and brutish, but when he takes it off he’s fast and strong from having to wear it all the time. His freeze gun should be a type of ion/charged particle laser that sucks the heat out of things, thus freezing them.

      • I agree with you deacon but sorry michael, that doesn’t really worthy of the World’s Finest. It’d be have to be Luthor teaming up with getting into business with the League of Shadows or Hugo Strange or something like that. Something larger and more powerful and threatening than Mr. Freeze.

        • er…typos. sorry. Let’s just go with “teaming up with”

      • If DC/WB are willing to make this new movie universe more comic booky then I would love to see Batman face his far less realistic villains, like Clayface, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy or even ManBat.

        • Agreed. Do not be afraid of Batman’s terrific rogues gallery. I would be elated to see Batman done properly as a mixture of crime drama and fantasy. The Arkham Asylum/City games did this very well, and proved the feasibility of such a scenario. Batman doesn’t have to be realistic, because he isn’t. Batman’s history in the comics bears this out, and there is no reason to be ashamed of it. There is a reason why Batman’s popularity endures, and it isn’t because he constantly evokes a sense of oppressive darkness and moroseness. Have some fun with Batman for a change.

    • Yup. Agreed.

    • I’m hoping we don’t all get a bunch of “origin” type stories. I want the new batman to be at the top of his game and have already been active prior to event of MoS. The emergence of Superman and the existence of aliens to only alter Batman’s role as Gotham’s protector to result in him looking at the bigger picture.

An origin story for flash or wonder woman would be ok, since for flash his powers would be very cool to visually explore on film and the consequences of his abilities etc. though I dont really feel as though a purely standalone film for him would be warranted. It would be cool if he is transformed then while struggling with his new found ability he sees on tv the events of MoS and it motivates him to seek out other heroes type deal.

For WW, why not make her history as follows, ancient kryptonians came to earth, posed as gods (people cane to describe them as the greek gods of todays myths) they created a hybrid race of “servant” women using kryptonian cloning tech (since kryptonian in MoS are all grown and no longer born by natural means) which resulted in the women and society of themyscira. The kryptonians left yet provided the tech neccesary for themyscira to continue on. Shielding tech to cloaking the island from the outside world, providing reproductive tech for them to maintain their numbers etc. they would retain their culture/ basically stagnate until today. Maybe they were told that the gods would return and all they had to do was to wait for them type scenario. When zod and co arrive in MoS could activate tech on themyscira, opening them to the outside world once again. I don’t know just a thought. Would dispense of the annoying human pilot and WW origin that I’ve always hated and the whole supernatural elements that seem somewhat dated and ill fitting with MoS. so there u have it WW is a human/kryptonian hybrid ehich explains her powers.

      • @bellcure. That Wonder Woman treatment is FANTASTIC. Good work.

      • Why would WB gamble hundreds of millions to develop more characters? They have a hugely successful Batman, and could have Superman. If they simply have a series of Superman movies that bring in Batman type money they’ll be thrilled. But even with these two already developed they’ll be cautious about bringing them together. There’s no way they’ll potentially destroy the money making potential by introducing other characters that may or may not fly with audiences. It really doesn’t matter what fans want. WB has to lay down the money. They’ll go with the sure bets.
Maybe several years from now they’ll try other characters.

      • @Bellcure I love your WW idea, but too many hardcore WW fans would get too annoyed at such a departure from the norm, and WB can’t afford to alienate the hardcore comic book fans, because they actually help a lot in terms of the money.

        • That said… I’ve been reading comics for decades and I’ve only recently learnt wonder woman’s origin. It was just never important to me. Maybe others would feel the same way? Who knows! Either way I think bellcure’s idea is a really elegant solution that could satisfy both ends of the argument.

      • loooooooool wow i wonder where you got this premise from? smh

    • Agreed. Batman is already “established” in the minds of the average movie goer no need to completely reboot just sort of reintroduce.

    • Agree. I don’t think WB will do a complete reboot of Batman. There is no need and the current version is well established and popular. So they’ve got their movie Batman and Superman. That’s a pretty sure bet for a ton of money. There is every reason not to muck that up by introducing WW, Flash, a new GL, etc. That’s a lot of expenditure and a large gamble.

    • MAN OF STEEL then World’s Finest followed by Justice League would be the obvious flow into the so-called DC universe.

But factors of each film’s success, market demand, and future (inflated) costs will also greatly influence Warner Bros. The corporation without the participation of Legendary Pictures in the future, for instance; the executives still have stakeholders to account to — each quarter. And this is one reason why the studio can be “finicky” about greenlighting an in-house production (example, TARZAN recently postponed).

Bottom line: MOS must perform…as well as any other film that follows in its footsteps (sequel or concurrent comic-to-film production).

Movies are retail products and the corporation that produces them is a profit-making machine. On top of all this, WB is finicky as hell.

      • I agree with u Frederick, WB will make whT is most logical for the bottom line. If MoS make batman movie then theres no rush at introducing new characters etc. if thats the case we’ll prob see a MoS 2 before anything else. Then most likely a reintro of batman as a cameo maybe in MoS 2 leading to a worlds finest/team up movie. The JLA movie will happen at some point but I just dont see it as far as the rumored 2015 that was thrown around.. More like 2017-2019.

    • Agreed

  2. Those options are a bit too obvious. I really wanna see a Darkseid vs Brainiac, Vandal Savage or even Zod( if he’s alive after MoS)

  3. Those options are a bit too obvious. I really wanna see a Darkseid vs Brainiac, Vandal Savage or even Zod( if he’s alive after MoS).

  4. We need to move into a new era. Leave the rest behind, and use Man of Steel as the foundation for a new universe. Like this:

    DC Phase One:
    Man of Steel
    Wonder Woman
    The Flash
    Green Lantern Corps
    Batman Reboot
    Man of Steel 2
    Superman/Batman
    Justice League

    DC Phase Two
    Batman Reboot 2
    The Flash 2
    Wonder Woman 2
    Man of Steel 3
Green Lantern Corps 2: The New Guardians
    Justice League 2

    DC Phase 3
    Wonder Woman 3
    Green Lantern Corps 3
    The Flash 3
    Batman Reboot 3
    Teen Titans
    Man of Steel 3
    Justice League 3

    • why are there 2 Man of Steel 3′s?

      • Oversight. Man of Steel 4!

        • There’s no need to give every member of the JL their own movie before the JL movie. You can easily introduce them in the JL movie and not have to go into back story.

          • I also forgot Aquaman. That dude deserves his own movie. Read the New 52 comics.

    • Here’s your problem dude……

      DC Phase One:
      Man of Steel 2013
      Wonder Woman 2016
      The Flash 2016
      Green Lantern Corps 2017
      Batman Reboot 2017
      Man of Steel 2 2015
      Superman/Batman 2018
      Justice League 2019

      DC Phase Two
      Batman Reboot 2 2020
      The Flash 2 2021
      Wonder Woman 2 2021
      Man of Steel 3 2019
Green Lantern Corps 2: The New Guardians 2022
      Justice League 2 2023

      DC Phase 3
      Wonder Woman 3 2024
      Green Lantern Corps 3 2025
      The Flash 3 2025
      Batman Reboot 3 2024
      Teen Titans 2025
      Man of Steel 4 2023
      Justice League 3 2026

I’llnot 100% positive I even plan on living long enough to see Justice League 3, my mortgage will be paid off by then at least!

It would have been awesome if this was the plan all along. But WB’s wait and see approach 100% mean you won’t see another DC movie until likely 2016 late 2015. Even then, they’d have to get a serious grip if they want to produce 2 movies a year like marvel dones.

I love marvel studios and their broad family-friendly action comedy style but I’m 100% confident that DC will produce the better movies.

They’re going to elevate the art of the comic-book movie by offering intelligent counter-programming to Marvel.

That means sticking with the (I must stress COMPARATIVELY) grounded tone.
Ensuring that they only employ directors and actors with serious awards and critical pedigree.
Putting story first, and commucating huge sci-fi and allegorical ideas in the subtext of their movies.

That said, there is NOTHING wrong with a fun time at the movies and I’ll continue to be excited by everything Marvel puts out.

Here is how is I believe DC will proceed……

      Phase one:

      Batman Begins
      The Dark Knight
Green Lantern (the tone is off, but it will be treated like Ed Norton’s Incredible Hulk)
      Dark Knight Rises
Arrow Season 1 (one up’s Disney on a multichannel strategy while simultaneously used as a platform to introduce B and C list characters)
      Man of Steel

      Phase Two:
      2014: Arrow season 2
2015: Amazon season 1: introducing Wonder Woman. (The hardest one by far to get right)
      2015: Man of Steel 2
2015: arrow season 3 (this where Guggenheim can start to work in Green lantern elements/ferris air and start to have fun with the classic green lantern/green arrow Neal Adams run). It can also, (and more importantly) serve to softly relaunch Green Lantern, explaining Ryan Reynolds away, setting up John Stewart etc..
2016: The Flash: Origin slightly adapted to have the accident somehow caused by an experiment on Krptonian tech
      2016: Batman/Superman: Worlds finest.

Potentially a far simpler story than everyone thinks. It’s about 3 orphans, one born a god (Cavill), one very mortal (Gordon levitt), and one inbetween (Bale) who has ascended to the status of a god in the eyes of the people and is forced to come out of retirement.
It’s important that this film showcases Superman’s limitations and is about how these people can form together to fight someone they can’t individually.
A new Lex Luthor could be introduced here as well as Brainiac.
Bale and JGL prove far more effective at combating Lex Luthor, city corruption, the underworld
Superman is more effective as a quick fix solution and he quickly learns for all his power he’s still completely ineffectual in certain situations.
2016: Amazon season 2: setting up a war with Atlantis introducing Aquaman.
      2017: Batman,
2018: Heaven Sent (the proposed Justice League Dark movie)
      2017: amazon season 3
      2018: arrow season 4
2018: Green Lantern Corps (recast or quick recap then focus shift to John Stewart or Kyle Rayner).
      2019: batman sequel
      2019: Justice League.

I do not believe they’ll risk either a Wonder Woman, Aquaman, or green lantern movie. TV allows a format where they can make mistakes and change things in a more fluid format until they’re correct.

I think it ticks all the logic boxes as far as catching up to marvel, offering something different, appeasing shareholders that they won’t break what doesn’t need fixing (a billion dollar dark knight francise).

What sucks for hardcore DC fans is that they would like something that resembles the Bruce Timm/Paul Dini approach to Justice League.

Unfortunately I just don’t believe that’s viable when you look at what’s already in motion.

      • Phase 2 should culminate in worlds finest

      • Except Bale, Nolan, Snyder, and WB execs have said that Nolan’s Batman is separate from MoS. Enough with the Nolan worship.

        • They are also saying in this report above that there is no plans for anything further then Man of Steel. Enough with the attitude.

          • That’s not what he said at all. He said if it is happeneing he doesn’t know about it. And what they say about what comes after MoS is irrelevant to what I said. Nolan has said he doesn’t to do it and Bale has said he won’t do Batman without Nolan. That’s it. It’s done. And if you actually believe them when they say there are no plans for anything further than MoS you’re naive. They probably have quite a few ideas at the brainstorming level and are waiting to greenlight them. And that wasn’t a whole lot of attitude but it is justified. People need to stop this wishful thinking and discuss what’s actually possible.

            • I remember all the actors of Star Trek denying and flat out lying about the role of BC as Khan.

              • Because it was supposed to be a twist ending. Never mind that IMDB had him as Khan for weeks before the movie came out. I’m sure the studio tells them not to say anything about what’s coming after MoS, but to think that Nolan and Bale are coming back because Star Trek tried to character’s identity secret is totally ridiculous. You’re fishing for a reason why it could be possible. They’re both involved in movies that are only going to be starting pre-production next year which means they won’t start production on a Bale Batman/Superman movie until 2016. I know DC is waiting to see what comes of MoS but if you think they’re gonna wait 4-5 years to release the sequel and/or get the DC cinematic universe started you’re outta your mind. They know they’ve wasted enough time. They aren’t gonna sit on it like they did with Batman.

        • I don’t worship nolan in the slightest. Only SPECULATING (not facts) on the jigsaw pieces i see laid out in front of me. Can’t be bothered to explain the obvious (IMO obviously) nature of what’s happening anymore. Half truths and complete denials are part of the business. Doesn’t anybody learn anything? Some of you are like mice eating cheese attached to electric shock cables. You keep getting shocked yet keep eating the cheese.

If this isn’t happening, then give me your best guess on what is. Who the players are? Who’s directing and producing?

Zack Snyder’s next movie after Mos is apparently (according to wikipedia and IMBD) a war drama starring Christian Bale… Bet it doesn’t even exist.

Not a single person has EVER managed to counter with anything aside from the following….

          1. Nolan’s batman suxs
          2. Stop worshipping Nolan
          3. They all said it isn’t happening so they must be telling the truth just like when they said bane and talia wasn’t happening, and that I’m not sure I want to make another one after the dark knight.

The sky is blue. It’s always been blue. I can see it.

Please somebody…. Anybody. Put a single shred of doubt in my mind.

          • @Mark.

1 You do not have to be a fan of Nolan to either appreciate his films or not. But there is a level of respect that has to be shown to him, not given. I am ok with Nolan, and I think The Dark Knight Rises could have been handled a bit differently.

2 Nolan’s Batman did not suck, it however was not the best description of Batman. He grounded Batman in reality, he did not give him the element of suprises, or the extent of his ability. Best Batman in any interpation outside of the comic book…Arkham Asylum. Hard to argue that Batman is superior to Nolans Batman.

3 When a movie is in pre production still does not mean it is going to happen. It has to be in Production, it has to have more than a cast and script, once a team is in place, then I believe it.

            • All fair points jeff but it doesn’t really answer my question.
Give it your best crack, with everything you’ve seen and heard what do you think will (not want) happen?

I can’t disprove your smurf theory however

              • It’s true that anything could happen. We can speculate all we want and there could be some secret deal nobody knows about and it’ll be a big reveal at ComicCon this summer and everyone will jump for joy. Except that Nolan finished the story. What is Wayne going to do? Take the mansion back from the orphans? Don the cape and cowl again with his jacked up joints? How is he, Bale’s Batman, gonna stand there with aliens, demi-godesses, interstellar cops, and whatever villain they decide to throw at them? The problem with bringing his version of Batman into this new universe is that Nolan grounded him to the point where he literally is a man in a suit. He drops down and does pushups but he can’t even “lift a bloody log.” The Batman from comics and cartoons does one armed pushups. He could lift a bloody log. He kicks trees down and every member of the JLA thinks twice and three times before getting in his way. He’s 5 steps ahead of everyone while Bale was always struggling to keep up and make sense of what’s going on. He was just man. Batman is more than a man and more than the symbol he wears. He is the pinnacle of human capability, both physically and mentally, and Bale’s Batman just isn’t that. I loved that version. Best version on screen hands down. But the fact is that the only way Batman works with the Justice League is if a villain can be offered the choice of “who would you rather fight, Batman or Superman” and they choose Superman. When the audience can actually have a debate about who would win, Batman or Superman, then you have a true Batman. As poetic and wonderful a story as Nolan spun for us, his Batman cannot stand up to Superman. He’s just not quite there. He would end up a side character in a movie played by an actor to simply sell tickets and that is a disservice to Batman.

                • He did finish that story. Doesn’t matter in the slightest. It’s an arc. All the obstacles you’ve listed will just make the story richer and more interesting than if everything was reset to zero.
Bruce didn’t have his mansion in the dark knight either, he was operating out of a storage facility.

As far as standing next to other members of the league goes… Maybe he doesn’t have to. At least, not in the way you’re suggesting anyway.

He is the brains after all

                  • Hmm. This comment’s awaiting moderation, not sure why

                    • @MarkBartlett

Yeah. My first post is still awaiting moderation. WTF??

                • +1.

                • I absolutely agree with everything you said but at the same time I a huge Bale fan and wouldn’t mind if he came back as Batman. I mean BB was pretty fantastical in my opinion and they could easily include some of those elements in the next installment even in continuation from TDKR if they find a creative way to do it. Maybe during his retirement he honed his detective and stealth skills, giving us more of the Batman we know and love from the comics. Just a thought.

                • Exactly. I liked Nolan’s trilogy but we need a new Batman if we’re supposed to believe he can compete with Superman.

          • The Sky is not blue.

It really is the fart of Smurfs.

        • “Enough with the Nolan worship.”

Seriously. I’m a fan of Nolan’s, but I’m really tired of people trying to shoehorn his version of Batman into the discussion about future DC Comics film adaptations. He made two very good Batman films and one good-but-not-great one. However, it’s time for a new interpretation of the character, and Nolan’s does not work in a world of people with super-powers. Move on.

      • I think this is the best idea for the DC Universe as a whole. With so many more B/C list characters than Marvel (IMO), it just makes more sense to integrate other forms of media into the DC Universe. Your idea of introducing more characters in the ARROW TV series is great, I just hope that it’s not a lackluster version of SMALLVILLE. Having more the grounded characters (no powers) like Question, Black Canary, Huntres are good for the show. Even Flash having a cameo in the show would help out both characters.

DC already owns the hell out of Marvel in the animated movie aspect, why not use that to their advantage and start incorporating events that happen between the mainstream movies? Introducing Aquaman, Cyborg, and Hawkman/Hawkgirl might be best for animated films while Wonder Woman and Flash could start with Cinematic movies but then have the sequels just be animated films since the next exploits of their hero career seem to be that interesting to people.

The only thing that Marvel has over DC are the live action films. Everything else (animated movies, tv shows, animated tv shows/cartoons, video games) is much better on the DC side. Heck!, even incorporating video games into the universe would be awesome! Again, maybe make the video game a sequel to the movie, or even make it a tie in that links two movies together. If Rocksteady signed a contract with DC to produce their video games for te next 10 years I would be extatic! There is so much potential that DC has to use that if they used it all correctly, they would dominate the comic book universe.

      • Lot to Digest there Mark.

So, I am going to start. No Keep Flash origin the same. Bolt of lightening hits chemicals. If you make his origin kryptonian, you pretty much doing what Smallville did. All well and good, but all those meteor freaks got a bit annoying. Flash Origins was a freak accident. You keep him Human, and do not bring an outer space element to him.

How would WB Pull off a Multichannel, Disney has far more channels to the WB currently. I am interested to see how that would work.

They cannot catch up to Marvel in the Movie verse, Marvel already has it plan set in stone, and their movies are going to come out at a particular time. DC and Warner Brother does not even have set plans, just ideas. There is no TRUE Department head dictating what should be, right now…A Bunch of Talking heads all who have a plan…First..Establish One Boss, to direct all of them.

You have to limit Superman, if you don’t. Then you create something that can only be handled by a equal hero, and there are only two who can shut down Superman. A God Like Superman is not good for the grounded element. It eliminates the need to even have a team up or justice league.

Animated vs Film. You have more flexibility in animation, then you do in film. Lower Budget and no deadlines like you would for a film. But, back to One Boss for all of them. Check Egos at the door, here who is in charge and here is who you will listen too…Final Say.

        • Fair points again jeff, I enjoy this debate, it’s a fun waste of my day off :)
As far as flash goes, I can understand why people wouldn’t like that. But it’s an idea to tie into the logic of that universe without the accident being a weird coincidence. It would never need be mentioned again.

I don’t think they’ll catch up to marvel in terms of planning and execution… But, they’ll cheat into covering a lot of lost ground.

I know that there is no apparent plan. However, I strongly believe there is one (as well as a worst case scenario plan b).

Warners needs a franchise as big or bigger than Harry potter to appease shareholders and bring in a billion a year in box office.

They MUST have a plan. If they don’t then people are getting fired because they need to release at least one movie a year from 2015 onwards to compete against the annual Marvel and Star Wars onslaught.

WB’s strongest asset is that they have all their assets under one roof.

          But who’s the boss?

I’m betting they’re going to try their best to be all things to all fans, so the man for the job will be Bruce Timm.

This will help increase confidence in those worried about the ‘grounded’ vibe and he’ll work closely with Zack and Deb Snyder, Goyer, Mark Guggenheim and to a lesser extent Chris and John Nolan in keeping everything cohesive. I believe Guillmero Del Toro will become part of his Cabal dependent on the success of Pacific Rim.

Either way that’s a formidable line-up that trumps whedon easily.

There is no way they’ll lose producer ties with Nolan if they can help it no matter how small his role. His name carries a lot of weight with both critics and general audiences despite the opinions of some sections of the fanbase.

          • I am going to throw the Wrench into the plan.

Lets assume, Legendary and Syncopy get a deal in place with Disney, as yet Warner Brothers has yet to strike a deal.

How much would Disney throw at Legendary and Syncopy to get them in partnership?

Is that why as of today, there is no deal between the three of them?

Bruce Timm, going up against established directors and producers, outside of his animation work. Animation and Film, you do not deal with egos in animation.

Can you imagine of Disney strikes a multi billion dollar deal with Legendary and Syncopy. Warner Brothers would crap bricks, and lets face it…Warner Brothers does not have the pockets of Disney.

They could throw 4 billion out there like it is confetti in Legendary and Syncopy Path.

WB unlike Disney, have everyone under one roof, but they also control the purse strings, Disney is like…Here is a blank check…knock yourself out.

            • @Jeff.Granted, it’s a worry. But they’ve been afforded I great deal of creative freedom at warners. It’s also one of the last pieces of the puzzle and maybe the reason for a lot of the radio silence concerning DC.

I also believe they’ve got more to offer there than at Disney where they’ll become just another spoke in the wheel.
The fate of Syncopy/legendary is likely pretty intrinsic with what deal can be struck for the sheparding of DC properties.

Nolan et all will get financising for their passion projects for the rest of their careers if the deal shakes down correctly.

              • Or Paramount, always in the shadows lurking.

    • How many times can batman be rebooted? You have Batman rebooted 3 times?

This why fans should never do movies.

      • How many actors have played James Bond in the past?

        That’s right.

        Try again.

        • Bond is not a Franchise that has been rebooted.

Pretty much it has been established that Bond films are stand alone, and have no continuity. Only the past three Bond Movies were the first to establish continuity with the other 2 films with Craig as Bond.

          Try again.

          • My point is that you can make a new Batman flick just like new a James Bond flick. New actor without having to re introduce an origin story.

            Just have Batman continue.

The first Tim Burton Batman flick didn’t have any origin in it.

            • Yeah, but it did connect Batman Returns to Batman.

Then went off the reservation with Batman Forever

I have had the last film removed from my mind..SURGICALLY!

          • Wrong. “Casino Royale” is a reboot. How?

The evidence of continuity is ridiculous, but it is there.

The Roger Moore Bond visited Tracy Bond’s grave, a girl who only appeared in George Lazenby’s lone movie.

The Pierce Brosnan Bond is well aware of the jetpack from “Thunderball” and is confronted by 006 Alec Trevelyan on his past experiences: “I might as well ask you if all those vodka martinis ever silence the screams of all the men you’ve killed… or if you find forgiveness in the arms of all those willing women for all the dead ones you failed to protect.”

CR has been labeled by the franchise as a reboot because they needed it. Reboot does not mean off-the-walls different; they’re just paying more attention to the source material this time around and not making absurd decisions

            • WHOA.

There is continuity in Bond, just never been a reboot of Bond, it mostly.

Well, I never thought of James Bond or 007 as the man, but in away…Anyone can become James Bond if the previous Bond retires or gets killed.

Same with M and Q, You change the Person, not the designation.

            • +100

          • Thats not true when bonds wife dies with george lazanby in the next film with roger moore his at his wifes grave

          • That’s not e timely accurate, Jeff W. Casino Royale was basically a reboot of the Bond franchise.

    • I notice Teen Titans is in that wish list :D

  5. Afraid your options are a bit of stretched coming from cartoon network.

  6. hell yeah! MoS 2 would be great with god vs gods (Darkseid, Brainiac) and mega-destruction of cities than MoS… About Lex, dont know how they put him fit in as a mortal person with no super power

    • Lex Luthor is Supe’s #1 nemesis just as the Joker is Batman’s main baddie.

Luthor may not have superpowers but neither does Bats.

As long as Luthor is NOT the stupid schmuck who has awful taste in clothes and is a real estate mogul – as he has been stupidly depicted in the past – he has great potential. Snyder and Goyer can really do justice to the REAL evil genius that Lex Luthor is. And just imagine if they bring in a bad ass actor to portray him!

Imagine Lex Luthor as the head of Lex Corps, or even the President of the US AND Brainiac – both working together to topple Superman.

      That would be epic.

  7. World’s Finest is a pretty solid way to go. It makes good business sense and is also an easily viable story. Introducing this world’s Batman would be simple and, assuming this movie is successful, would be a huge draw for audiences who already love Batman. He would most likely still be quite “grounded” similar to Nolan’s so as to draw contrast between him and Superman and be familiar to audiences who have seen the recent Batman films. Marvel’s approach with their films has been to ask the audience to accept their fantastic comicbook world as the real world while DC seems to be moving in the direction of asking the audience to accept that these comicbook things happen in the real world. Introducing another grounded Batman, perhaps one that is much more a detective and an intellectual while still being physically intimidating, would be in keeping with this strategy and work to further solidify the DC cinematic universe as a deeper look at these heroes who are so iconic in our culture. I think a Batman/Superman team up is the way to go. After that, Wonder Woman done in the same way, grounded in the real world, would be a natural next step before Justice League. DC would complete their “Holy Trinity” as they’ve been called and then move to the full team up film. I’m a firm believer that Wonder Woman can be done and done well and she must be or else there can be no real Justice League movie.

  8. Definitely wait awhile to do a justice league movie. There’s no need to rush into that. Settle on doing a MOS Sequel first and a world’s finest movie to follow. Wonder woman, Flash, and all other DC heroes would fall in between. With that said justice league should come out around 2017 or 2018.I’m starting to get a feeling that lex luthor and another villian (maybe despero) will be the antagonists for the JL film. Of coarse I want starro to be the villian, but I’m not going to beat that drum so much again.

  9. DC have the two top heroes in Batman and Superman but after that their lineup of heroes are not that interesting, nothing as good as Marvel.

So it would make sense to me to just go with Batman and Superman team ups. Easier to do and more money, if i’m right, than going through the headache of a justice league movie.

  10. I think the cat and mouse game of Superman and Batman figuring out each others strengths and weaknesses then using those things to work together could be total gold.

    • Yup. That’s what the story HAS to be about. Superman has plenty of limitations himself. This is where a brand new re-thought Lex Luthor could really shine.

  11. DC, in the comics, has always been strongest with it’s team ups. I think the same would hold true in the movies. Going with a Superman/Batman movie is the best idea then throw a Flash/Green Lantern movie team up somewhere as well.

    • Your gravatar is disgusting… but hilarious.

  12. I imagine that if they bring in Lex, they do it half the way they did in smallville half Earth One. Where the military realises that the world is unable to act in the face of such power, and they need a way to protect themselves.

Wasn’t MoS 2 confirmed for a 2015 release date already? I might be mistaken.

There was a script for a Flash movie that was supposed to hit the theaters in 2014, however that doesn’t seem to have panned out. Albeit, for me that would probably be one of the films I’d be most excited to see, coming from the DC universe. It is easily a movie that you can mess up though.

Having a team up film with Bats where he is experienced would work well. However, I for one would love to see a reboot of Batman’s origins, one where he isn’t covered in a thousand layers of protective suit, and one where he utilizes his intelligence, in regards to weaponry and detective skills!

I actually think that Aquaman could be an awesome movie if they focused a lot on the outcast part.

Having a film with the question(maybe with a few cameos from some other heroes) would be a great lead up to a Justice League film, he uncovers all that sh*t, and then he realises he can’t handle it, no one can only JL ~~

  13. When it comes to World’s Finest, I believe the only villain that would work would be Metallo. Someone that could be strong enough to weaken Superman, but at the same time also be strong enough to take on Batman. Hence why they would need to work together to stop him

    • +1

    • Metallo is weak. Nothing more that a cyborg/Terminator knock off.

And beyond us comic book peeps, who really knows who Metallo is? Not you general movie going audience.

      • Isn’t it the point of making films to be as original and fresh as possible.

As far as Batman villains go, the movie going audience had no idea who Ra’s al Ghul was until Batman Begins. He was accepted widely.

        • You’re right on about Ra’s al Ghul and you make a valid point about that character.

But that also furthers my point as well. Although most folks didn’t know who he was previous to BB, the character was both original and believable and credible.

The same CANNOT be said of Metallo.

I say bring on Brainiac. The masses don’t know much at all about him, but Goyer and Snyder can bring a lot to the table with Brainiac to make him believable and credible.

          • Who wouldn’t want to see John Connor go up against a Terminator again?

            See what I did there?

            • Haha, well why not?!!

      • I didn’t know about Metallo until a video game. Basically, I’d describe him as a cross between Magneto and a Terminator.

Okay so, maybe he would be an excellent secondary villain. I’m just trying to think of someone who cannot be stopped unless Superman and Batman work together. Most of Batman’s villains can be and have been stopped by him alone.

  14. I think the easiest way to reboot Batman would be to not reboot him… but have him re analyze his first 10 years as the Batman. There is no set time that his trilogy exists in. That said, MoS could be 5 years after the events of Gotham. What the majority of us fans want from Batman is a master detective and tactician. Those qualities weren’t really given to us in Nolan’s trilogy. So maybe after hanging out on the sideline for a few years, he had time to wise up and re think his strategies especially since the world has just had their “first contact”. Batman should probably smarten up a bit.

    • What you said

  15. As for a villain of Worlds Finest, Metallo or Braniac are smart options. Someone that can prove worthy against BOTH of them. It should also introduce another character towards the end, maybe a Lantern like Stewart or reboot Hal. For World’s Finest 2, I think Lex would be a good choice. They can go the Public Enemies route. At this point, there would be a few characters already in existence, and it would definitely be cool to see some heroes turn on each other for difference of opinion.

  16. Everybody settle down!

Obviously most of the fanboys and girls ( and I AM a fanboy, myself ) are foaming at the mouth for a “Justice League” flick. But we all have to remind ourselves that we are STILL the minority when it comes to mass/world wide box office. That’s the bottom line.

We have to be realistic. I almost feel sorry for Zack and Cavill having to answer these questions. You can tell they are having a hard time answering. Have they talked about a JL movie? Of course they have. But it’s way too early for them to spill the beans on WB/DC future plans.

I don’t understand why it’s sooo hard for peeps to not get it. Henry Cavill and Zack are, in fact, answering the question: Realistically, there can’t just be a JL film without furthering Superman. MOS hasn’t even come out yet and the comic book purists are clamoring for JL. Both Zack and Henry are saying the same thing. We need more Suuperman! And they are right.

At this point, MOS is gonna be HUGE. HUUUUGE. It has everything going for it. The only question is how huge. But it’s already been screened. And folks who have already seen it are going ape sh** over it. (a buddy of mine who works at a SFX unit in LA saw it and gave me the rundown and also pointed me to a site where a few others posted their own reviews. EVERYONE is saying this is one of the best superhero movies ever, if not, the best.)

It would seem only logical to keep the DC momentum of MOS going with another one or two sequels. It only makes sense. This is what Cavill and Zack are saying. We can continue to establish our new Supes and at the same time have other flicks like “Wonder Woman” “The Flash” and a NEW “Batman.”

That’s the other thing we ALL have to put into proper context. Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The mass audience is still only aware of Nolan’s Dark Knight. It would be VERY pre mature (to say the least) to just go on and produce a new “Bats” flick when TDK trilogy only wrapped up last year. To us it might be time to move on. But that’s unrealistic. It’s too early for that.

It only makes sense to go on and have a MOS trilogy, just like TDK trilogy. During that time other flicks can come out to build up to JL. “Wonder Woman” especially because WW is up there with Supes and Bats. Peeps tend to think that it’s primarily those two guys, but no. WW is in the middle of their rivalry. And she’s a woman, which gives The Justice League a lot more weight and credence to the team. MUCH more than the Avengers. Who doesn’t know who Wonder Woman is? We NEED a WW flick. More than another Green Lantern or even Batman. The time is due.

Let’s have Superman have his day “in the sun.” We are lucky to have a superb actor who is so willing and so capable to be Supes with Cavill. Let’s keep that going.

It will keep Zack in the inner circle. Because it’s easy to see how sincerely thrilled he is about Superman. I can honestly see Zack, his wife Deborah, Cavill , David Goyer and Charles Roven as the team who will eventually bring us a JL flick. And possibly Bruce Timm and, yes, maybe even Mr Nolan. As part of a creative team. And to produce. Why not?

The money that WB/DC would offer them would be obscene. But I believe that all these parties involved are genuinely loving being a part of Superman and the greater DC universe.

  17. What is going on with Gravatar???

  18. I am glad, none of you make movies. Because if you did, Comic Book Movies will be a mess.

1 KISS Rule. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash?

Marvel proved when you start doing secondary characters, they do not do well at the box office. Do not flood the Market with secondary heroes you know that cannot carry a solo movie…Martian Man Hunter……Yawn. Not much threat from a hero you can defeat with a cigarette lighter.”

Flash? OH..Super speed, he can move really fast…”Yawn”. Yes 2 ours of moving faster than the speed of light, fighting guys and tying them up before they know what happen, disarm them before they happen..oh as joke, let me run to china for real food.” There is nothing in the Flash that says he can carry a movie, all of his power is based on speed, pretty much…The NASCAR of Super Heroes.

Superman brings the elements of Awesome fighting, super feats and other neat stuff, Batman brings us awesome fighting, and using his mind. Wonder Woman brings a combo of both. Other heroes, they just do not have that wow factor. You can do anything in comic book, translating that to movie and keeping it under budget.

Think about this. Since 2000, Marvel in one way shape or form as put out over 20 Comic Book Movies. That is 20+ Movies in a 12 year span. Compare that to DC who has put out, 5 in that same span. Not all of Marvel movies were good, but they were there.

    Just saying.

    • We are equally “glad” you do not make movies.

      Just saying.

      • +1

    • Iron man was 100% a b list character for marvel until the movie was released. In fact the ongoing series came very close to cancellation several times…. So the opposite may be true. However, I do agree they should focus on the core group

      • @Mark.

You cannot over saturate the Market. If you do that, you will just put them out for the sake of putting them out.

Guardian of the Galaxy. Really, not going to appeal to more than the die hard fans.

The FF Rise of the Silver Surfer potential.

I do not need a Cyborg movie, or a a Green Arrow movies, and I damn sure do not want a static shock movie.

        • And I agree in principle. However I think guardians of the galaxy will perform. TV’s the home for all these second tier characters

          • It just got that

            Galactus is a Cloud.

Good thing, not using mainstream or A List actors to bring it to life.

    • Martian Manhunter, I agree, can’t support his own film and make Batman or Superman money. But he is more than what you are saying. He is as powerful as Superman, doesn’t have a weakness to kryptonite, and is a shape shifter.

Flash, in order to move as fast as he does, requires a massive amount of strength. He can also move through walls and travel through time if Im not mistaking?

All it takes is a little creative thought, Jeff. Give it a chance, bro.

      • I will give Flash a chance.

If they do not put the movie based on just his speed!

Bro, relax. I got to keep people grounded.

        • I still think Aquaman has the best chance at his own film. Almost more than Wonder Woman. Both characters bring us a NEW world, like Superman bringing us Krypton. Atlantis and Themyscira would be awesome to show the world.

          • Aquaman?

            Come on Man!

It is still Aquaman. Stuff happens in Arizona, what good is he?

            • Have you not seen Smallville? All he needs is a DRINK of water to regain his strength. Just like Kal El needs the yellow sun. Both are available everywhere. Maybe AC can carry a canteen?

            • Have you not seen Smallville? All he needs is a DRINK of water to regain his strength. Just like Superman needs the yellow sun. Both are available everywhere. Maybe AC can carry a canteen?

          • Its Avatar in comparison.

That’s why James Cameron directed it in Entourage. He knew the potential.

            • Oh that is so wrong.

              • But its not… LOL

            • Aquaman absolutely rocks in every possible way. If you do it right you’ve got game of thrones meets the abyss meets ponyo meets the little mermaid meets thor. Which is better than that probably sounds.

Aquamans biggest obstacle is that he’s called Aquaman: Apart from that he’s absolutely boss

              • My ahem ‘grounded’ Aquaman movie would start like one of james Cameron’s deep sea documentaries. Black Manta and his crew are exploring at unheard of depths they discovery an ancient and secret civilisation.
Life at the bottom of the ocean at insane pressure looks like an alien world.

I really think it would capture peoples imagination :)

              • @Mark

                Ponyo? Really?

Why not throw in Marine Boy.

                Sheesh!

                • Oh yeah, I forgot about marine boy, 20,000 leagues under the sea and the last ten minutes of Pinocchio

          • @ Leathercheerio

Your idea for a Aquaman film that I read a few months back was terrific. If that type of story were an Aquaman movie, it would be a hit, IMO.

      • I can hold up a bic lighter and take down Martian Manhunter.

Care to think what I can do with a flare gun?

Do not get me started with a Flame Thrower?

        • Magic and kryptonite.

          Enough said.

      • I always wondered

How can Martian Man Hunter be the last of his kind, come from a planet with a weaker gravity, yet be stronger on earth.

One would think he is just as strong on his planet, and if all Martians are the same, then…WHAT THE HECK.

        • Something I can agree with you! Martian Man Hunter sucks! Stupid character with a stupid premise!

          Makes Aquaman look great.

          • I do not care if you agree or diagree. Cant take stuff seriously

But, if I can hold off a superhero with a bic lighter or a torch..he is no threat to me.

            • You know what? I’d love to just hold up a flame thrower to you.
              Just to see what happens.

              And you misspelled “disagree.”

              • Well in the real world, if you held up a flame thrower, I might react like a trained US Coast Guard Officer, and probably Take cover.

When you start saying, you would like to hold up a flame thrower to someone, you start stepping over that line.

        • I’m no mathematician here BUT… maybe John lived on Mars pre its destruction (aka red planet of death) and we actually have no idea what the environment was like during that time.

          • @leathercheerio
How dare you bring logic into comic book debates!

        • He’s a shapeshifter who can control the molecules of his body, including density. As for the fire weakness, that is psychological, not physical (at least, not in the last decade or so). Manhunter’s actual weakness is one of two: the STRENGTH of his reaction to fire at a given time OR his natural pacifism.

  19. This really has nothing to do with the article, I was just thinking about it the other day. I have yet to see a single “slow motion” shot in any of the trailers of tv spots.

    • Zack was asked about that and he said that there are NO action/sfx sequences in slo mo in MOS.

  20. Is Superman hovering in the picture above?

  21. Give us a great Green lantern movie. Green lantern is the most interesting caracter in DC after Batman and also a very original one.

    • Green Lantern is the reason why WB are afraid to make movies about any DC Comics characters other than Superman and Batman.

      • Well that’s what happens you give less than a tenth of the effort and hard work that was put into The Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel.

        • Agree. The movie was bad because they didn’t put any effort in it.
I’m just saying that WB has in her hand a caracter with a very original story and mythos as opposed to other comic caracter and it will be sad to not fully exploid that mythos . To give you an example Grenn lantern corps are like the jedi order.

          • The Green Lantern mythos is enormous with lots of cinematic potential, but Green Lantern is a very tricky character to pull off in live action. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but I very seriously doubt we’ll see another Green Lantern film before a Justice League movie, simply because the first Green Lantern film was a financial disaster. The fact that the whole affair was completely mismanaged and the end result was basically a big joke will not help it either. Green Lantern made such a bad impression that I don’t think the character is redeemable. Also, if/when they do make a Justice League film, I hope they jettison Ryan Reynolds. In my opinion, he was woefully miscast, and I would actually like to see John Stewart as the new Green Lantern in a Justice League movie.

            • Well, I hope you’re wrong because it will be really sad to not treat the green lantern the way it deserve. And i agree with you that ryan reynolds was miscast and i prefere to see more serious actor in the role.

            • The way a great green lantern film could be done is by including superman and sinestro in the origin story. Like they did in an episode from superman the animated serie called brightest day. I remember watching that episode and saying that’s the way I want green lantern origin story to be told.

  22. I can pretty much state this.

There is going to come a time, when CBM will take a hiatus.

  23. I want to see a Man of Steel sequel first before anything else. I’d rather just see a standalone Man of Steel trilogy to be honest.

Call me hooked on Nolan if you want, but I’m not ready for a Batman reboot. After all the criticism we gave Sony for The Amazing Spider-Man, we now all want a Batman reboot? Seriously?

In the Deadline report about Marvel’s messy Avengers 2 contract negotiations, it said that the film did not break even until it made $1.1 BILLION at the box office. That is a huge, dangerous risk and I’m not sure WB wants to go that route.

Superman is a strong enough character to carry his own franchise. Let’s just do that. Who knows how much longer comic book movies will be in?

    • Chris, that wasn’t their true break even point. They just claimed that so they wouldn’t have to pay more money. It’s what they call “hollywood accounting”.

    • Everybody settle down!

Obviously most of the fanboys and girls ( and I AM a fanboy, myself ) are foaming at the mouth for a “Justice League” flick. But we all have to remind ourselves that we are STILL the minority when it comes to mass/world wide box office. That’s the bottom line.

But I believe that all these parties involved are loving being a part of Superman and the greater DC universe.

    • +1

Me too, I’m more looking for them to fully flesh out their interpretation of Superman similar to the Dark Knight Trilogy. The only thing I would enjoy more than a trilogy would have to be World’s Finest film though, that’s something I’ve been waiting for quite a while.

I haven’t seen a good Superman movie made in my generation so I’m really hoping this is the one.

  24. the next few movies should be

    MoS
World Finest [cameos: Flash, Green Arrow]
    Trinity [cameos: Green Lantern, MM]
    JL [intro: Aquaman]

  25. Didn’t we just have this same conversation on Friday?

    • YES, LOL!

  26. A World’s Finest movie is the worst way to go for WB. It is time to introduce the rest of the DC line up in a “Nolan” like universe. You have one great adaptation of Batman and what looks like a great Superman film also grounded in reality. Nolan clearly has a strong record with directing and soon producing these types of films. He is reportedly not going to do James Bond films in the foreseable future so I think he should oversee the DC universe and work with directors. Incorporating the Dark Knight eliminates the need for a World’s Finest movie which to me takes away from a Justice League film. The Avengers for example was seen by many as an Iron Man and his friends movie. The same thing would happen with a Worlds Finest if they go that route which I think diminishes the stories that could be told if the other DC characters are not better fleshed out.

  27. i think they should do amazing dc films with the other characters and then do a s*** hot justic league

  28. Justice league is not going to happen, ever.
The best we can hope for is a Batman/Superman team up that may or may not be good. But even a team up won’t happen until after a trilogy of Superman movies, if they’re even any good.
WB is not a CBM making company, they’re just not, bottom line.

    • I agree but I think you are a little too negative. They want to make money, just like Marvel. They want successful franchises that guarantee a certain return, like HP or Batman. So, yeah, they’ll be happy with a good run of Superman movies. But I think they will want Batman to continue as well (again for $). I could see them hinting at Batman in the MOS movies (more than already), and maybe even featuring Batman or at least Bruce Wayne. A Batman/Superman would be a huge BO draw and they don’t require all the development that the other JL members would take. So why spend the money.

They’ll probably want to leave things open for the future so we may see some other characters develop. But what’s the hurry? They need to milk these two cows first.

But you write as if Marvel is making movies for the love of the characters and fans. I’m sure there is some love, but it’s a business. Marvel used talk of Avengers to promote characters that, frankly, probably wouldn’t have seen development otherwise. At the very least it greased the wheels. But Marvel didn’t have Spider-man, FF, and X-men, so they had to do something else. The other studious have to develop the former titles or loose the rights.

WB has been sitting on their rights because there is no pressure, until Marvel demonstrated the money making potential. Still they have plenty of money to squeeze out of Superman and Batman without getting into Wonder Woman, Flash, or Atom and Red Tornado. However I imagine they’ll be looking to a future when audiences start to tire of Batman and Superman, or those two need a boost.

      • @ Nostelg-O

You make a valid point, I am a little negitive toward WB, however, that was brought about by bad product. If Marvel produced the same stuff as WB, I would be negitive toward them.

If I buy a new car, and it’s performance continuously disappoints me, chances are, I’m going to be a little negitive toward that automaker.

        Same principle here.

Marvel is not making movies for the love of the characters, they indeed want to make money. My point is, Marvel is doing it and doing it well, because it’s thier life blood, their very exsistance depends on whether or not they make good CBM’s. That is not the case at WB. To them, CBM’s are just another type of film they produce, for Marvel, it’s all they produce.

It’s like buying flowers for your girlfriend/wife at Walmart or a florist. Flowers aren’t Walmart’s speciality, it’s just another thing they carry, so they probably won’t be the best quality or freshest, they’ll just be ok.. Flowers at the florist however, will be top notch, because it’s what they do, it’s all they do. Walmart doesn’t care if their floral department stinks. But if the florists flowers are bad, he’s out of business.

You are correct, WB is under no pressure to produce CBM’s, because they have other things going, other franchises to tend to.

I do not think we will see DC characters realized to their full potential as long as WB owns them, and that disappoints me, because I love them, and yes makes me negitive toward WB.

But, I shouldn’t go to Walmart and expect florist quality flowers, because if I do, I’m only setting myself up for disappointment every time.

        • Batman was the best SH series in a long time IMO, and it struck a cord with moviegoers too. I really don’t know how you could expect more than that. He alone rivals Avengers in BO, and until IM3 he was way ahead of any other franchise. I’m a Marvel guy but none of their studio movies really excite me anywhere as much as Batman and the Raimi Spider-man.

Anyway, Marvel does seem to have a better game plan and coordination. But it looks like WB is building a “plausible” universe. That could be really good and a great contrast to Marvel, but it’s harder to do. I don’t see them rushing to make WW and Flash simply because they seem to be putting a lot of energy into developing things that will work on screen.

Marvel’s style is a lot looser but more flexible that way.

But, come on, if MOS leads to a great series, can you really complain? (Not saying it will yet).

          • @ Nostelg-O

I hope MoS is great, and if it is I will be the first to say so, and will tell everybody as loudly as I can that it was great. I think the action will be there, it’s the plot, dialog and acting that has me most concerned. From everything I’ve seen, I am not sure Cavill can carry the role. Brandon Routh looked great in the suit, but couldn’t “be” Superman.

IMO, the Batman trilogy was ok. I’m not saying you’re wrong, and I’m glad that you liked it, but for me, Bale just didn’t work and it took a lot away from the series for me.

I think you might find this article interesting.

            http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2013/06/05/iron-man-3-man-of-steel-movies/2160107/

            • I agree with everything you say about MOS. I’m not saying the entire DK series was perfect, but over all it managed to be good (given the track record for SH movies that may be something). There are other ways to do Batman. Hopefully we’ll see some more good interpretations. Thanks for the link. I think I read it. It’s funny, I think I’m becoming more interested in the business and public reception of SH movies than the actual movies. I think it’s simply that I like that a broader audience is getting a taste of something I liked a lot as a kid.

  29. If there are any further plans for a DC movieverse, I can’t see Nolan getting involved. I doubt he wants to spend the rest of his life in a Kevin Fiege role, and he has already said he won’t do a Justice League. He was involved in pitching Man of Steel to Warner Bros mostly as a favour to David Goyer. I doubt we’ll see him in any sequels after this.

Warner Bros needs to appoint a super-producer as an architect for their universe like Marvel has with Kevin Feige and 20th Century Fox with Mark Millar and Lauren Schuler-Donner. Bruce Timm or Paul Dini would be the best candidates, but there’s also Charles Roven, Michael Uslan, Gregory Noveck and David Goyer: All hardcore comic geeks with a lot of experience in the film industry.
