The Netflix original series Hemlock Grove has been on hiatus for over a year. Viewers were left with a cliffhanger at the end of season 2, with no word other than the show had been renewed for a third and final season. The show never received the same acclaim as other Netflix originals like Orange is the New Black, or House of Cards, but whatever fanbase it was able to accrue was apparently enough to warrant the series getting a conclusive ending.
Hemlock Grove currently has a 2.5 star user rating on Netflix. While season 1 failed to impress most viewers, or was at least deemed unworthy of a binge watch, season 2 was considered something of an improvement. Whether you’re in the camp that loves it or hates it, the teaser trailer for the third and final ten-episode season sticks to selling its supernatural storyline, but offers little in terms of detail.
For those who don’t know, Hemlock Grove is a Netflix original series based on a book of the same name by Brian McGreevy and executive produced by Eli Roth (Hostel). The dark horror series takes place in the dilapidated town of Hemlock Grove. It revolves around Peter (Landon Liboiron) and Roman (Bill Skarsgard), two teens who team up to solve the town’s brutal murders, even though both are considered suspects. Peter is rumored (and eventually proven) to be a werewolf while Roman is Upir (pretty much a vampire).
The brief 18-second trailer invites you to “savor every last drop.” If you’ve been waiting for the final season, the sheer number of bloodbags should definitely have you pumped. When the series was renewed in September, Roth said, “We are looking forward to taking the… final season into some dark and unexpected places…and to giving viewers the killer finale you’d come to expect from Hemlock Grove.”
Since there’s really no plot detail yet, it’ll be interesting to see how this season cleans up the mess leftover at the end of season 2, while also offering a satisfying and definitive end to the series. There are a lot of loose ends to tie up and this is a show that has hovered between a thrilling adventure and horrific train wreck, so finding out which side season 3 fall son may be reason enough reason to watch.
Hemlock Grove will stream exclusively on Netflix, October 23, 2015.
