Well here’s a treat for you - I don’t think you can really consider this a spoiler, but Robert from FilmsPunk.blogspot.com alerted us to a test picture of Heath Ledger wearing his Joker prosthetics without the white. black and red makeup.
He said the image originated at the SuperHeroHype forums, but I wasn’t able to find it over there to provide a proper credit.
You can check out the image below (which I’ve enhanced a bit to bring out the detail), plus we’ve got some interesting info regarding the makeup itself…

It seems that the person who came up with the makeup design for the Joker in The Dark Knight was… Heath Ledger himself! According to the poster over at the SHH forum:
“he [Heath] showed up with a very basic make-up kit consisting of store bought mascara, white grease paint and lipstick and and basically designed the make-up there on the spot”
Apparently everyone loved it and then the makeup artists had the task of recreating it every day for shooting.
Anyway, here’s a look at Heath wearing only the prosthetics (which he did not design):

Looks even better enchaned. Hopfully for the DVD extras we will have some great behind the scenes look at Heath becoming The Joker.
Stories like this make the anticipation for the movie worth it. I cannot wait, and shizz, if Heath did create the make-up he was truly a genius.

It is so sad that he died. But I’m so excited for this movie. I haven’t been excited for a movie in a long time, I think since Batman Begins came out.

he did appear in the movie looking like the picture you posted, at the funeral of the policeman, he stands in line and the second time they shoot, you can see him like that
What is really interesting is how much more the makeup changes his face than just, the prosthetics alone, and the more it creases and melts the less like Heath Ledger he looks and the more he inhabits ‘the Joker’,or it inhabits him. And like all mask work it is very freeing to performance which I’m sure helped.Brilliant and Dark as Hell!
Awww he still has such a sweet face here. I cant believe they manage to make him look so evil. Great acting too! Such a shame he died *sob*

Heath Ledger was my favorite actor, and he was truley amazing in The Dark Knight. He played the joker so well, it was as if he was possesed. This is my favorite movie and I love heath ledger sooo sooo much and i really wish he didn’t die!! the scars looked so real and he didnt even look like himself. He was great in all of his movies and trust me I have seen them all. He was the hottest actor ever and i loved him. He was definetly the best as the joker out of all his movies, and Batman the dark knight is so my favorite movie of all time forever and ever!!!

I watched Dark Knight movie last July 2008 first time.I asked my daughter that who was the Joker. He’s awesome. She said that his name was Heath Ledger. I was puzzled.Why his name was…. I learned about him. I think he deseve award for being work hard for that movie. I miss him and love him.

I saw the Dark knight when it came out because everyone said it was awesome. it was. it was the best movie i have ever seen. Heath Ledger. I can not even describe to you about how I felt when I saw him play The Joker. I reaserched about him and watched all of his movies. There was something about him in the dark knight that made you…want him. I dont know. I became sort of obsessed, and I can honestly say that I still am. He became a part of me as I watched this movie over and over again. I saw it at least 6 times in theatres and probably more. The pain inside me is great, because I miss him so much. If he were still alive I would want to meet him/ but since I know that I can’t it hurts me. I cry sometimes when I think about him/ and how his family has been afected but his death. I read that he was not sleeping well, and was missing his daughter terribly before he died. In the next movie that he is in/ that he could not finish, people said that he was always tired on set and he was getting close to two hours of sleep each night. I think over and over in my head how someone could have saved him/ and if i knew him how I could have saved him.all i know is that I love him and I will miss him forever <3
OMG I loved Heath Ledger he was so hot and I cried when I heard that he died. I love Joker he is my idol Heath played the best joker ever I feel bad for his daughter she probably says where’s daddy? where is heaven? alright, i’m 14 years old, and i love heath ledger. he’s pretty much the best actor ever. i loved him in “10 things i hate about you” it was THE best movie ever. and when he died, i cried. i didn’t know how he even died, and i was sad. he apparently died being the joker, and it like posessed him so much that it kept him awake at night. and that’s crazy!! he didn’t tell anyone, and then he took like a million (not really) sleeping pills, and he just…died. and that’s stupid. he was famous like crazy, and he died acting, which he loved, but he died acting out a part. and thats crazy, (as i said before) i mean, wtf? but still, heath ledger is the best actor, johnny depp is close for second, but heath,your still the best.

OMG!!!! i loved heath soo much its not even funny my friends and family think im absoulately crazy because i cry all the time for him and im starting to get a collection of joker pics actaully just last night i drew my lastest pic of heath as the joker and i began to get sad actually i want to draw him right now so i probaly will. well heath was the best actor ever and i will always remember him hes in good hands and soo is his daughter matilda who will be taken care of. I know i dont know him but i feel like i know him really well i hope his whole family begins to feel better even though i never will.
