Piracy can’t be beat. Ever. Only way to stop piracy is to shut down the whole internet, but then people would just burn cd’s for friends and stuff. About that book, it looks interesting, i’ll check it out.

A movie should be made inspired by Chris Anderson’s “Free”.
People complain about all these things but….why do people go for free in the first place? Instead of trying to stop it with laws, why not try and understand why people go for it in the first place?
It seems like an easy question to answer (with something like “People just don’t want to pay) but it absolutely is not, and it reveals quite some big things about humans and how they structure their lives and communities/soceities.

IDK the ways to work it are so numerous It’s just easier to give up music at a certain point. I have what I like purchased as it was released on the media popular at the time from records, 8-track, cassette, to CD. I stopped there. I live in a bandwidth of music limited by genre and then by time. Which I believe most people eventually do anyway. At some point people stop buying and listening to music.

A sane way to do it to me would be to charge a quarterly, Bi/yearly subscription rate and you download what you want. The MTBF of the recording media is readjusted to comply with the reality of the market. You can record the music on one media per subscription period.

I could see a day where the recording industry will consist of nothing but a limited promoter and delivery service relegated to live concert bookings and public advertising in large public venues, billboards and the like. Artists would pay directly ala-cart for services. Computers and the Internet will come with every home like phones use to be. Content would be sold to you directly from the artist over the net. Which is already happening.

You can’t stop piracy with conscience only as your weapon. Ever since the internet become the most popular thing ever, piracy also accompanied it.

From: The Independent.co.uk- “The latest approach from the Government will not help prop up an ailing music industry. Politicians and music companies need to recognize that the nature of music consumption has changed, and consumers are demanding lower prices and easier access,” said Peter Bradwell, from the think-tank Demos, which commissioned the new poll conducted by Ipsos Mori.”

Thanks for posting that Paul. It makes some of my observations sensible. They could wave a magic wand and stop all piracy and it wouldn’t make a bit of difference to me. I’ve bought all my music years ago. MTBF on the media is the answer. Sooner or later though artists will dump the recording industry. Unless they close the Internet like they’ve been talking about…
