With Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen out of the way, it’s now time to focus on that other big movie of summer 2009, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Sure to be an absolute box-office smash, the sixth film in the Harry Potter series is fast approaching with not long to go before we can all take our seats in the theater to enjoy the magic-filled world once again.

To give us a taste of the new Harry Potter movie a little ahead of its release, HBO has an extended, beyond-the-standard-trailers look at the film in a featurette that reveals brand new footage and interviews with the cast and crew.

The HBO First Look video is in two parts, and lasts just over 12 minutes, but if you’re at all looking forward to the next installment in the series, I highly recommend giving the full thing a watch. Check out the videos below:

Harry Potter is a franchise that I think has gotten better as the series progressed. With the exception of the third, the Prisoner of Azkaban (which I thought was the best of them so far), they have been getting darker, more mature and more entertaining as the series’ actors and stories have matured. I didn’t think it was possible for Harry Potter to go any darker than the Order of the Phoenix was, but all that we’ve seen from the Half-Blood Prince so far has proven that it can.

I’m certainly not the biggest Harry Potter fan in the world (I haven’t read any of the books), but I find myself really looking forward to this installment.

Are you looking forward to Harry Potter 6? Which film of the series has been your favorite so far?

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opens in theatres on July 15th, 2009.

  1. Damn, still a whole week left :(

  2. I stopped reading at the 4th book but have continued to enjoy the movies. I’ve often found the movies overall more entertaining than the action movies geared to the teenage crowd who know nothing more than gross out jokes and shaky cam action sequences.

    I’m looking forward to this.

  3. Only a few more sleeps!

My local theatre is showing a marathon of all the preceeding films with a special double feature on Sunday leading up to the Half Blood Prince.

    I cannot WAIT. :)

  4. 2 weeks in PR dam

  5. @ gottarhyme. I’ve been watching one Harry Potter film per day since Saturday because I’m seeing the sixth on Thursday on a screening. Can’t wait either!

  6. I am a fan of Harry Potter .

  7. The only thing I don’t like about the films is the inconsistency of the magic effects, especially in Order of the Phoenix. I liked what they did with the Patronus, but apparently Stupefy and Expelliarmus are interchangable.

  8. gotta watch this.

  9. The 6th book is the best of the series. Taking that into consideration, and tthe fact that the last 3 movies were great I think that we are in store for a masterpiece of a film

  10. I agree, the movie series has been getting better with every installment. The actors have gotten much better, and the movies are less and less for children, which make them tolerable. The books were much the same.

I’m really looking forward to seeing young Voldemort, because creepy kids rock. I’ll be seeing it opening night, of course.

  11. That true, the movies are excellent, are just getting better and better. It’s strange, when I saw the first movie I didn’t think they could top it, but they did. They always do.

I’m really excited for it, but I’ll be seeing it in Germany first. Then back when I’m in the states I’ll see it again.

  12. Well, I see it before anyone. You will all be asleep in bed when it premieres here! :D

  13. Yeah, but at least I’ll see it! I don’t care if I don’t understand what they are saying, I can wait to know that. But doesn’t saying I saw it first in Germany sounds so cool?

  14. Yes, it does! Zer gut!
