Archery has to be one of the most underrated superhero skills imaginable, and both Marvel's Hawkeye and DC's Green Arrow have proven their star power in recent years. That's thanks in large part to artist Otto Schmidt, who reinvigorated solo comic books for both Green Arrow in DC's Rebirth, and the latest Hawkeye: Freefall miniseries. And if fans felt a crossover would be a dream come true... they don't have to dream any longer.

As yet another case of a talented comic artist putting the comic industry slowdown to work in dreaming up the next Marvel/DC crossover, Schmidt took to Twitter to detail what a meeting between the two most formidable archers (and their significant others) might look like in two new pieces.

Schmidt's two-panel crossover showcases the characters' distinct personalities while highlighting their obvious similarities. The post also shows a budding camaraderie between not only Hawkeye and Green Arrow, but also Black Canary and Mockingbird (the latter of which also has quite a few storytelling possibilities for Schmidt to mine). The first piece Schmidt posted shows Hawkeye and Green Arrow caught comparing their arrows, only to see their two comic book girlfriends - Mockingbird and Black Canary respectively - watching. The second image shows all four after a battle, with both Hawkeye and Green Arrow bruised, and Hawkeye in particular heavily bandaged. Everyone seems to be taking a breather, with Hawkeye smirking despite his injuries and Green Arrow lying on a nearby table, being attended to by Black Canary, while Mockingbird resides behind Hawkeye.

Green Arrow first appeared in More Fun Comics #73 in 1941, while Hawkeye first appeared in Tales of Suspense #57 in 1964. The two certainly have more than a little in common, with both outspoken archers becoming mainstay staples of flagship superhero teams the Avengers and the Justice League. Both also have a penchant for trick arrows as well as blonde bird-themed superheroines. Of course, the two have slightly different trajectories. For example, while Hawkeye is often lampooned as the "worst" Avenger on a team of powerful superheroes, Green Arrow doesn't have the same image problem, thanks largely to the CW series which leans heavily into Green Arrow's early similarities to Batman.

While it's increasingly unlikely these characters will ever meet up in official continuity, Schmidt's artwork gives comic book fans a completely satisfying glimpse of such a crossover in just two images, letting them connect the dots at how exactly the archers arrived at these moments. Hopefully, this isn't the last crossover Schmidt has in store for fans of his work on both Green Arrow and Hawkeye.
