Ever since Transformers hit it big at the box office in 2007, toy manufacturer Hasbro has been determined to turn some of its other popular properties into blockbusters, as well. A fourth Transformers film - with both director Michael Bay and voice actor Peter Cullen returning - is already in place for a 2014 release, and films based on the popular board games Ouija and Candyland (with Adam Sandler attached to star in the latter) remain in development.

However, the company's most recent release, Battleship, was largely considered a flop, making only $65 million domestically against a $209 million production budget. The film performed more respectably overseas, but not well enough to fulfill Hasbro's hopes of launching another Transformers-sized franchise. The sinking of Battleship hasn't slowed Hasbro's ambition, though, as the company is moving forward with production on three new films.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro just inked a new deal with Randall Emmett and George Furla, the production team behind current release End of Watch and the upcoming Schwarzenegger-Stallone action film The Tomb. In the next two years, the producing duo will finance and co-produce films based on such recognizable titles as Monopoly, Hungry Hungry Hippos, and Action Man, the British version of Hasbro's G.I. Joe.

Hungry Hungry Hippos the Movie

Of course, Monopoly - based on the seminal real estate board game - was initially set up at Universal as part of a 2008 deal Hasbro made with the studio. That project, produced by Ridley Scott, will be the first of the three to go into production, with a planned start date for sometime next year.

There's no word on how Hungry Hungry Hippos will be adapted, though it will likely feature some kind of animation. The object of the board game, for those who are unfamiliar, is for players to collect the most marbles with their mouth-opening hippos. It'll be interesting to see how Hasbro manages to stretch that rather thin premise into a full-length feature film, to say the least.

The next Hasbro production set to hit theaters is G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which hits theaters March 29th, 2013.
