Hi,
I like this article but..
last night i went to the midnight premiere of harry potter and the half blood prince! I was honestly so disappointed! was it just me or did it seem very choppy and for some reason didn’t feel like it was a harry potter movie. Don’t get me wrong some of the parts in it were either really funny or somewhat scary but i really was not satisfied. I don’t know, what did you think?? Am i wrong? Give me your opinions..

I am 61 years old and have not read any of Harry Potter books but I have purchased all 5 DVDs and Me and my 6 year old Grandson watch one every night befor he goes to bed I for one love the movies, I Guess I have’t missed anything in the book althow I do have the last book and will read it after I buy the 6st dvd so like somany may say what you don’t have you don’t miss.

The movie was not that bad at all, sure there was a lot of drama in this movie but a lot of good parts to, when Harry got into a fight with malfoy and used Snapes curse. That was a very good part, lots of spells being casted and in the end malfoy is on the ground bleeding.

Ok guys, not EVERYONE can read so these movies are that bad, some people havn’t learned to read they’re whole lifes and to watch a movie is they’re reading. I am a very good reader but not EVERYONE is, some people also get to distracted and cannot read any of them, or some people just do not like reading. So stop hating on the movie and making it worse on all the people that have not read it…I have but tons have not.

I also hated the fact that they didnt have S.P.E.W. and, my favorite part of all the books was (spoiler!!!) Dobbys funeral. Out of all the parts that made me cry in the books, Dobbys funeral was the biggest. And now im getting more and more aware that they wont have it in the next one. Or the other one after that (theyre splitting the last book in 2 movies)

I mean, Sirius’ death wasn’t that emotional in the movie… and Dumbledore’s death seemed to have no impact whatsoever on the characters (other then the whole wand raising, which made no F$#%$ing sense)
They failed to capture the spirit the books have and the emotionality
Which is a true true shame.

I don’t see why they couldn’t have Lord Of The Ringe’d these movies and made them all 3 hours long thus fitting all the story in.

I agree I think that it makes more sense to wait for the rereleases because tehre were A LOT of things left out of this Harry POtter. Personally I didnt like this one as much as I liked the others and I doubt a few deleted scenes would change my mind, but they might help.

i agree with james. the films are horrible. the finding of the ‘room of requirement’ was totally changed in the 5th movie,and ‘SPEW’went out.no charlie,bill,dobby,winky,nothing!.HORRIBLE!

I’ll get both when they come out. Not only that but the widescreen version… definitely.

I do agree though… they re-release movies on DVD/Blu-ray just for extra money. The sad thing is… that they get it too.

I Agree with you james.I understand that it is impossible to fit every detail into a two hour movie,and i have enjoyed the other harry potter movies considering that a few details had to be sacrificed just as the lord of the rings novels had to be changed for theatrical time limitations,but this last harry potter was absolutly horrible! There where to many important details left out.It seems as if the director completely over looked the fact that one of the most important charaters in the half blood prince is lord voldimort.This is where you learn so much about who he is and what he is.You even meet his mother and father,but i guess the director did not think that was important.I just hope that who ever is resposible for the next movie can salvage the disaster that was left behind with this last movie.

Perhaps to people who haven’t read the books these movies may have come out somewhat enjoyable, these people have a glimmer of hope which points in the direction of somewhat liking these Harry Potter movies. But otherwise (people who have read the books) you all have no hope of liking these movies.
There’s way too many plot holes in these movies that are noticeable EVEN to people who’ve never read the books

Before I comment on this I will clear one thing up: The movie should stand on its OWN, no matter hat the source material (Book, board game, older movie et cetera) is.

Why was there one scene with Voldemort in this movie? And he was a child- in a FLASHBACK?
Where is Dobby? Bill? Charlie? Did they altogether forget about Fluer, Peeves and the rest of the Death Eaters?
Why was there NO Dumbledore funeral? That was the most emotional part of the book.
And they also deleted the funnest part- the castle fight. Why? That was the line that had o be crossed to start the war and they didnt draw it.

There are too many flaws to name, the book was too perfect and this movie failed too much,
Why did they CONCENTRATE SO WELL and did such a GREAT JOB on the teen drama part of the book yet they FAILED to capture the FEAR that Voldemort brings in the 6th book. Hes building an army, torturing people, killing most, taking over the ministry, good people are wearing black cloaks… the feel of FEAR this book had, was unfortunately replaces by a “Degrassy” teenager love triangle between Hermione Ron and Lavender

Sorry ‘hamlet3k’, I agree with ‘James’ on this one!

Especially considering The Lord of the Rings Trilogy(have u seen the extended edition?)! The trilogy is an awesome addition
to anyone who has read the books and yet it is a cinematic experience.
On the other hand Harry Potter movies have TOO many plot and dramatic drawbacks(Why the heck did they not show the actual Quidditch tWorld Cup in the 4th movie?!). They are plain bad movies. They don’t do anything for avid fans and its hard to believe that any uninitiated theatre goer would understand the rehashed and abruptly jumping movie completely.
Sorry mate I dont buy them!

I, also, am I huge fan of the books. Been so since “Philosopher’s Stone”. Yet I’ve enjoyed all the films. I have my favorites, and some that I consider weaker than others but, all in all, I’ve enjoyed the films thus far and I think they’ve found a great director in David Yates. I disagree that if you love the books, you HAVE to hate the movies. That’s too narrow a scope for me. The movies are different — they’re not trying to replace the experience of enjoying or even reading the books, just to… supplement the experience. The Lord of the Rings movies were also incredibly different from the books (and I read the books every couple of years), but I still love ‘em. Why not? In both cases, I would argue that even though the films miss/change FACTS in the books, both franchises have successfully conveyed the SPIRIT of their sources, stayed true to the heart of the tale beneath the trappings of details.

Well I already own the first five films, so I think I’ll buy this one on December. I also hate the “multiple incarnations of a DVD”, especially when I already have that film.
