Harry Potter, you lucky dog.

Welcome to our newest Screen Rant feature, where we let you know who and/or what in pop culture we’ve been TOTALLY crushing on lately!

For our inaugural post, I would like to let you know why I’m totally crushing on actress Bonnie Wright, who recently turned in one heck of a grown and sexy performance as Harry Potter‘s love interest, Ginny Weasley, in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

And before you cynics out there start crying foul: This crush is strictly on the PG side of the fence. Check out why I’m totally crushing on Bonnie Wright:

[NOTE: This post MIGHT CONTAIN SOME SPOILERS]

WHO’S THAT GIRL?

When I went to see Half-Blood Prince I was fully prepared to see some teenage romantic angst. Even if you’ve never read one page of J.K. Rowling’s books, Half-Blood Prince has earned most of its critical praise for stepping back from the wizard wonder to effectively explore human teenage drama.

.

However, what I wasn’t prepared for was Bonnie Wright’s Ginny Weasley. While recently completing a marathon run of all the previous Harry Potter films, I noticed just how much I’ve been overlooking this talented young actress, even though she’s been in every single Potter movie (it’s pretty much her entire acting career to date), and even had a featured role in the second installment, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

But there is no overlooking her now. Oh no. From the moment Wright appears on screen in Half-Blood Prince, she grabbed my attention and did not let go until the end credits rolled…

Bonnie Wright as Ginny Weasley

MY KIND OF GIRL!

Oh yes, Ms. Wright had the boys (in my theater at least) sweating in their seats. And it wasn’t just looks that did it (no offense Bonnie) – Emma Watson’s Hermione Granger has grown to be the “pretty face” of the Potter franchise. No, what Bonnie Wright brought to the table was a burning charisma that could barely be contained in two smoldering eyes, whose stare was womanly and mature far beyond the actress’s eighteen years of age.

Seriously: Ginny Weasley’s slow-burn seduction of Harry Potter (and I mean it just that way: her seducing him) has to be the hottest cinematic love-conquer I’ve seen this side of 9 1/2 Weeks. While Hermione and the other girls at Hogwarts were running around like headless hormonal chickens, Ginny Weasley totally owned her budding sexuality, wrapping boys (plural) around her little finger and laying claim to whichever one she wanted (lucky for Harry).

Ginny Weasley (Bonnie Wright) watches her man's back.

In fact, nothing I’ve seen on film recently was more sexy to me than the moment when the Death Eaters showed up on the Weasley family’s doorstep and Ginny literally ran through fire in order to have her man Harry’s back. SO SEXY (girls take note: guys love a ride-or-die chick). If you haven’t seen Half-Blood Prince, you can watch a clip of the scene I’m talking about here.

Not only was Ginny Weasley fearless in battle, she was also a hardcore sports fan (the girl is one kick-ass Quidditch player), a sexy and sophisticated socialite (the dinner party scene), and an undeniably good kisser (see pic above). All things considered, is it any surprise that Ginny Weasley is “the chosen one’s” main squeeze?

.

THANK YOU, MS. WRIGHT

For helping to give young girls an example they can – and should – look up to. Your Ginny Weasley is smart, strong, brave, sexy yet sophisticated and in total control of her feminine wiles. The other girls at Hogwarts would do well to learn a thing or two from Ginny. Kudos for bringing all these wonderful traits to your character – you certainly did her (and J.K. Rowling) justice. Can’t wait to see more from you in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (starring Bonnie Wright) is currently in theaters.

I hope you know these paragraphs contain SPOILERS, other then Ginny Weasley having a crush I never thought she would be a love interest, you also you detailed events from a trailer, trailers are considered spoilers.

    Please change “SPOILER-FREE” to “TRAILER-SPOILERS”.

  2. And in the meantime, the female audience of Harry Potter fans have nothing to look at at all, except for Cedric Diggory, and he died!

  3. @ ageneral

Dude, at this point very little of the Harry Potter series is considered a SPOILER, as it has all been discussed at length.

NOT TO MENTION the fact that both of the examples you cited are also referenced by multiple pictures (see the top of the post) and clips (see the link in post) THAT THE STUDIO PROVIDED PRIOR TO THE RELEASE OF THIS FILM.

Nice try, but that doesn’t constitute a SPOILER by any definition.

For more on what is, and is not a spoiler, here’s a handy guide:

  4. Most people who have read the books know that Harry and Ginny get married! And have kids! There is no such thing as a ‘spoiler’ if it is already written.

  5. No offense but I found Ginny to be very unattractive. I had a hard time enjoying her character because of it. I so wanted Harry with Luna. Now that was chemistry. Ginny was just boring. She slowed the whole movie down. Good news is Deathly Hallows is almost completely Ginny free. More luna!

  6. Harry and Luna had chemistry ? I didn’t know laughing at someone was chemistry these days ….

Loved the feature on Bonnie Wright. As a casual viewer,I agree that she definitely stood out !

  7. Tom

Luna is just not important in any way to the Harry Potter series. She told him about Thestrals and wore some wierd specs. Big deal!!!!!
Ginny was possessed by Voldermort through one of his horcruxes’s and is an extremely powerful witch. There is no contest.

And to say Bonnie Wright is unattractive. Mate I know if it’s personal taste but please live in the real world.

  8. i definitely think Bonnie Wright is prettier than emma…emma is so gorgeous on photoshoots but when you really look at her, she’s just an ordinary beauty. On the other hand, when googled search on her, well, yeah, i’ve seen the development of Bonnie Wright.. and she’s becoming prettier and prettier…she has this sweet looking face…

i watched Chamber of Secrets the other week again to remember who she is coz she’s been everywhere since half-blood prince and i swear i becoming addicted to her

  9. Bonnie Wright was a good casting and she held her own really well, I dont think she is taht attractived but she definetly had a lot more sexpeal than Emma Watson. But the reason for that is that is that is how she is portrayed in the books, while Hermione is the more conservative type.
    I

  10. Both women are very lovely, and that first picture of Harry and Ginny makes Ginny look very sexy. I haven’t seen the movie yet but am looking forward to it.

  11. i havn’t seen the movie yet beacause of some unpreventable events so could you please not give it away.

  12. Hey Vic, would it be possible to start a thread for Harry Potter spoilers, like you did for Trek and Terminator?

  13. Hahahahaha Vic!
Dyou remember that one time I posted that snooty comment on keeping things the same, lest we end up discussing “chicks”?
Granted, it is movie-related, but still!
    Hahahaha

  14. @John

I hadn’t planned on it since there’s already a heavy discussion going on in the review, but I suppose I could…

    Vic

  15. While I think Bonnie Wright is attractive, I don’t think she is quite right looks wise for how Ginny is portrayed in the book but she does have her moments.

  16. Sounds Like in these last 3 Potter films,
Ginny will be what Arwen was to the LOTR films.

  17. What the hell kind of an article is this?? She’s hideous and she has no presence. Why is this an article? Please explain.

  18. @ Alex

Not that I EVER have to explain anything to the likes of you, but you’re not only wrong but rude. The moments with Ginny and Harry had real presence in the theater I was in. So complain all you want but in the end:

This article is here because I wrote it. Period. Sorry you don’t agree but don’t let too much hot air seep into your ego

“Please explain…” You must be joking…

  19. Well Kofi,

It’s a difference of opinion and I don’t see how I was rude, or wrong. Actually, YOU are the one who insulted me at the cost of defending a stupid article. I’m not complaining, I loved the movie so just relax and keep writing worthless articles that feed YOUR ego and make you feel like you have all the power in the world, okay?
And don’t bother replying, I will never read anything you post again.

  20. So Long Alex,

    You won’t be missed…

  21. @ Alex

“What the hell kind of an article is this?? She’s hideous and she has no presence.”

Yeah, that wasn’t rude to either me or Bonnie Wright. Sure bro.

Again, you won’t be missed. We keep an intellectual/courtesy standard of reader on this site that you fall WELL below.

  22. Just saw this today and damn Kofi when you’re right well you’re right, she was a knock out in this movie, she stepped up and let the other emotional/obsessed girls have it. I hope her character gets even better in Deathly Hallows but I have a felling she will hardly be in it.

  23. OMG I just saw this and I totally agree! Ever since I started the series I’ve wanted a girl like Ginny and her appeal really came through in this movie. And yes, jumping through the fire was sexy as hell. Good job Bonnie!

  24. I saw the film and I had to hold my breath every time Bonnie was on the screen. Her gaze was just so seductive. Yes, her eyes make her look so sexy and mysterious that I wouldn’t be surprised people are talking about how she’ll be the Arwen of HP films.

    Good job Ms. Wright!

  25. I’m so in love with Bonnie Wright. Every minute of the film I was just waiting for her to appear, and every time it involved Harry, it was awesome. One of the sexiest scenes had to be when she cleans his face, or when she gives him a cookie or something. In fact I really loved every scene of her, she was sexy yet in a subtle way. Very nice. It’s shame that in Deathly Hallows her screen time won’t be that much like in this one. But then of course the movies can differ a little from the books.

  26. I can’t stand Bonnie Wright or Ginny Weasley. Coming from a girl, I can’t stand other girls who use their whiles to attract many different men while the entire time, knowing which one and only one she wants. It’s not fair to the other men and just makes us girls look like slutty players.

There’s a reason Hermione is the most popular girl in the Harry Potter book series and movies. She doesn’t rely on her looks or whiles to get her through life. She actually has brains and is brave on her own, not just for the man she likes. Go Hermione!

  27. ChrmdRcks – I think you seem to be forgetting that the only woman we do actually see using a guy to snag another one is Hermione. She uses Cormac to annoy Ron. Ginny was dating other guys cause she liked them.

That being said, I like both – they both are brave, smart, loyal. One is more studious, one is more athletic. I love both. Go JKR for writing two wonderful females.

  28. Thank you! None of the reviews I have read have done Ms. Wright the justice she deserves for her amazing performance in this amazing film.

Not to disparage the other actors in the film, as this is perhaps the best acted “Harry Potter” film to date, however it is Bonnie Wright’s Ginny Weasley that captivated me completely, even from her very introduction.

Hers is one of the sexiest performances in recent memory. And what makes it so sexy is that Ms. Wright plays Ginny with such strength, maturity, intelligence (yes, smart is sexy), and that, underneath it all, we genuinely believe that she cares very deeply for Harry, as evidenced in the quiet, tender scenes the two share together. The fact that Ginny’s seduction of Harry clearly comes from a place of genuine love and compassion helps make the seduction that much more powerful, effective and moving.

This is even true of Ginny’s introduction in the film, when she greets Harry. Though they are obviously glad to see each other, with the subtlest of behavior, they indicate that there is now something very powerful between them.

Later, after Harry has had an encounter with Malfoy, and is bruised and bleeding, Ron or Hermione asks why Harry has blood on his face, to which Ginny replies “He always has blood on his face,” her voice heavy with concern. As Harry sits next to her, Ginny then gently wipes the blood off of his face, their eyes on each other the entire time.

When Harry decides he must let go of his textbook that once belonged to the titular Half-Blood Prince, Ginny is there to help him hide it, so that even he cannot find it. Before she hides it, she tells Harry to close his eyes, in an incredibly breathy, intimate half-whisper that exudes a level of sensuality and maturity that belies Ms. Wright’s young age. Needless to say, Harry and Ginny’s first kiss is only seconds away.

At the film’s conclusion, with seemingly the entirety of Hogwarts surrounding the dead body of a beloved character, everyone is shocked and saddened into stillness, as they experience a level of grief heretofore unknown. No one is taking the loss more heavily than Harry himself and absolutely no one moves – except for Ginny, who goes to Harry because she knows that in this moment, he needs her just as much as she needs him. Perhaps more so.

Though there are a few flaws in the film, they are nearly infinitesimal when weighed against the elements that work so well, chief among them Bonnie Wright’s incredible portrayal of Ginny Weasley. Her Ginny is radically intelligent, uncommonly brave, and fiercely loyal and with Harry, we see her as a compassionate partner, full of love and understanding and who effortlessly engenders feelings of trust, security, and a sense of home – something Harry desperately needs and longs for.

It is a thrilling, satisfying and deeply touching performance, for in Ginny, we see the kind of love we all dream about – but seldom find.

  29. I think anyone who does not like Bonnie wright is either gay retarded or jealous. she is perfect to play Ginny. she is one of the prettiest women i have ever seen, and a great actor anyone of her boyfriends are the luckiest men alive. besides theres no reason to hate? all her seens in this movie made my heart stop hope she keeps up the good work and has a bigger role in the next movie.
