Harry Potter, you lucky dog.

Welcome to our newest Screen Rant feature, where we let you know who and/or what in pop culture we’ve been TOTALLY crushing on lately!

For our inaugural post, I would like to let you know why I’m totally crushing on actress Bonnie Wright, who recently turned in one heck of a grown and sexy performance as Harry Potter‘s love interest, Ginny Weasley, in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

And before you cynics out there start crying foul: This crush is strictly on the PG side of the fence. Check out why I’m totally crushing on Bonnie Wright:

When I went to see Half-Blood Prince I was fully prepared to see some teenage romantic angst. Even if you’ve never read one page of J.K. Rowling’s books, Half-Blood Prince has earned most of its critical praise for stepping back from the wizard wonder to effectively explore human teenage drama.

However, what I wasn’t prepared for was Bonnie Wright’s Ginny Weasley. While recently completing a marathon run of all the previous Harry Potter films, I noticed just how much I’ve been overlooking this talented young actress, even though she’s been in every single Potter movie (it’s pretty much her entire acting career to date), and even had a featured role in the second installment, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

But there is no overlooking her now. Oh no. From the moment Wright appears on screen in Half-Blood Prince, she grabbed my attention and did not let go until the end credits rolled…

Bonnie Wright as Ginny Weasley

Oh yes, Ms. Wright had the boys (in my theater at least) sweating in their seats. And it wasn’t just looks that did it (no offense Bonnie) – Emma Watson’s Hermione Granger has grown to be the “pretty face” of the Potter franchise. No, what Bonnie Wright brought to the table was a burning charisma that could barely be contained in two smoldering eyes, whose stare was womanly and mature far beyond the actress’s eighteen years of age.

Seriously: Ginny Weasley’s slow-burn seduction of Harry Potter (and I mean it just that way: her seducing him) has to be the hottest cinematic love-conquer I’ve seen this side of 9 1/2 Weeks. While Hermione and the other girls at Hogwarts were running around like headless hormonal chickens, Ginny Weasley totally owned her budding sexuality, wrapping boys (plural) around her little finger and laying claim to whichever one she wanted (lucky for Harry).

Ginny Weasley (Bonnie Wright) watches her man's back.

In fact, nothing I’ve seen on film recently was more sexy to me than the moment when the Death Eaters showed up on the Weasley family’s doorstep and Ginny literally ran through fire in order to have her man Harry’s back. SO SEXY (girls take note: guys love a ride-or-die chick). If you haven’t seen Half-Blood Prince, you can watch a clip of the scene I’m talking about here.

Not only was Ginny Weasley fearless in battle, she was also a hardcore sports fan (the girl is one kick-ass Quidditch player), a sexy and sophisticated socialite (the dinner party scene), and an undeniably good kisser (see pic above). All things considered, is it any surprise that Ginny Weasley is “the chosen one’s” main squeeze?

For helping to give young girls an example they can – and should – look up to. Your Ginny Weasley is smart, strong, brave, sexy yet sophisticated and in total control of her feminine wiles. The other girls at Hogwarts would do well to learn a thing or two from Ginny. Kudos for bringing all these wonderful traits to your character – you certainly did her (and J.K. Rowling) justice. Can’t wait to see more from you in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (starring Bonnie Wright) is currently in theaters.

  1. the comments left by girls that hate Bonnie are probuly not good looking,……. that about wraps up chrmdrocks case

  2. I have adored Ginny and Bonnie Wright since HP1. She has gotten better and more pretty every movie and I think she did a fantasic job in HBP.
    AND I am a female.

My husband disagrees a little. He likes her, but he says Ginny was supposed to be *The* prettiest girl.

  3. well if you have read the books it was a little bit of a let down but she is still doing great and she is very pretty

  4. man, I love Bonnie Wright, and Ginny Weasley too. I read the books, I play the videogames, I watch the movies, and my thought doesn’t change. In Brazil I think I’m the only one who loves Bonnie and Ginny that much. I respect the opinion of the people that hate her, I’ll never change them. Emma Watson has every problem and unbelievable mess in her life. Bonnie Wright is just Bonnie Wright, and that’s why I love her, and Ginny Weasley. They’re the kind of girl with whom I’d be reaaaaaally in love. What would Hermione be if everyone liked Ginny more, huh?

You americans can understand what the hell I wrote here, can’t you?

    Brazil needs a Hogwarts.

  5. I am a woman and even I think Bonnie Wright is a knockout! She is a huge up and coming actress. She has talent that is going to far out do Emma (Hermione).

She is going to have far more of a part in the Deathly Hallows. Particually in Part 2 – movie 2. As the filming of the Deathly Hallows is coming in two installments.

I would turn gay for her. Pity she has little dress sense. She still carrys it off but… some of her red carpet appearances have been….well….a little on the odd side.

I think Bonnie Wright is a complete knockout!!

  6. I think that Bonnie does a horrible job portraying Ginny. She seems meek and awkward the whole movie. It's very clear she hasn't done any acting besides the Potter movies. She's trying to play the sexy and powerful role that Ginny has from the books but she's not believable at all. It's too bad because the Ginny in the book stands out a lot more and better matches Harry's status. Ginny's character is the only one I imagine completely different while I read than from the movie's.

  8. I think Bonnie Wright is a very confident young actress and she does such a wonderful job in the Harry Potter films. I will never understand how anyone can think badly of Bonnie!

  9. I think the last thing to describe Ginny Weasley as is “smoldering” or “burning”. Bleh, seriously… Seducing boy(s)? Please. I have nothing against the actress personally, (and I know they are suppose to be shy around each other in the film) but they have 0 on screen chemistry… like at all. You can tell that both of them do not find each other attractive in real life, and it comes through on screen and creates awkward scenes. Like almost on the verge of breaking character. I cringe at each scene with her in it. I sweat in my seat in uncomfortableness. She has no facial movement and her arms just hang lifeless by her side like she has no idea what to do with herself… but in a perfectly anti-romantic sort of way. Almost creepy…

Perhaps the directors tried to display a level of awkwardness because of their shyness, but there’s more than one kind of shyness. On screen they have an uncomfortable and awkward shyness, not the “I’m in love with you and giddy with excitement” shyness. Also, the hottest on screen romance?! They didn’t even develop her character at all in the movies! No character development = worst romance ever. Perhaps it’s the producer’s fault for giving her cheesy one-liners on the brink of just bad pick-up lines. I respect your opinion, but just about everything in this article is entirely the opposite of how I feel about everything (at least in the movies).

    • I thought that I was the only one who felt that Bonnie makes the movies just that much better. I’ve noticed her since the beginning and she has always been on the perifory but has always lit up the screen whenever she happened to be in the scene (even in the background. It would have been better to develop her character more, especially in the HBP where in the books their relationship really comes together at the end. I think that Bonnie has done an exceptional job with the parts that were written for her and I have to agree that the shoe tying thing and the fire jump were sexy as hell.

    • No disrespect but Bonnie Wright is a block of stone acting-wise. She is pretty and I realize she doesn’t too many lines but let’s face it, she has easily the weakest female character in the entire series.

  10. I don’t hate Bonnie Wright, but I didn’t enjoy the way she portrayed Ginny at all. I felt she should have been a fiery and captivating extrovert (as in the book) and in the film she comes across as quite placid in my opinion. Oh well. It is hard to get child actors perfect every time.

  11. Bonnie wright is one hot chick!

  12. well..Bonnie is definitely pretty with her thick hair, seducing blue eyes and pale face .she has potrayed Ginny exceptionally well…with little lines given to her I think she had done good job and she is one f those few actresses who can communicate without talking…and yeah Bonnie in real life is really modest, simple and homely which makes her attractive in a special way and jus browse through her latest pics…YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE
