I am really looking forward to Green Lantern as the next big comic book adaptation for the big screen..I hope they go with Hal Jordan and as for the villian ..should it be Sinestro?

RIP avengers

I really don’t think that would be a fair assesment of the situation considering that Marvel is building up to the Avengers release with at least five movies..Iron Man I & II, Thor, The Incredible Hulk & Captain America..and these movies will feature various cameos and other easter eggs for fans. SO it’s not like the Avengers would not have name recognition and a fanbase ravenous to see these characters on the big screen together A fan base that spans 40 years of comics to boot…I don’t think Potter would necessarily kill the Avengers head on and I think it would probably end up being the biggest weekend in box office history with both movies hauling in large coin..DOn’t get me wrong..I think Potter would probably win the weekend battle but for overall box office at the ends of their theatrical runs I think Avengers would win..I think it overall will hurt both films in the longrun as both films will have members from their target demographics picking a side..hey I would probably see both besides the demand for both these films will be very front end loaded so there would be time to see both on the same weekend.

Glad to hear about the release date, but I REALLY hope it opens in summer 2010, or at the very latest in the fall of 2010. If not, I have a bad feeling that they might pull a Star Trek and just postpone it until spring of 2011 and that would SUCK even more.

David Hasselbach says:

At this speed, we will get a Justice League movie coming out at the same time with The Avengers.

Which … would rock the known world actually.
Or maybe not. Who knows?

David Hasselbach says:

OH … one general thing:

does anybody have the same otherworldy feeling when they read release dates like “Coming 2011″ and such?

It has this “IN THE FUTURE” vibe going that is kinda creepy.

In 3 months, 2009(!) will “peak” … maybe I’m getting old, but that “In the year 2000, everyone will have a flying car etc.” echoes in the back of my head and makes the actual date a bit unreal.

I know this is not an important (or even movie related) post, but I just wanted to know if you other guys/gals have similar feelings.

Thats OK Vic,
Great Choice though.

aGeneral,
Thanks for the link.

@Gary-
This occasion will be monumental on so many levels- Avengers(finally) the end to the very drawn out Harry Potter film franchise(becoming less bewitching each year) and your milestone of over the hill. Congrats to you sir. I think WB is being Ballsy, tossing the highest-grossing franchise ever up against Marvel’s Ace-in-the-hole. Personally, I’ll be at Avengers, wearing my hand-made red-white-and blue suit, popcorn in one hand and shield in the other. God I am awesome.

huntthejest says:

Just to clarify, that last part was semi-sarcastic as I felt a noticible drop in my attractiveness to girls. But its worth it. I only hope I can find a friend with a 70’s pornstar ’stache that can make a decent red and yellow suit of armor, a guy willing to wear a bug helmet, finally convince my brother to dye his hair and beard blonde(he’s definitely my big brother, and I have a feeling he’ll be cool with running around with a hammer) and a moderatley attractive girl to slip on a pair of wings. This would be the happiest day of my life. Screw getting married, nothing’s gonna top this.

Andy S says:

I hate to say it, but I think Marvel will move the Avengers, probably up a couple weeks for the July 4th weekend (unless of course Will Smith has a movie coming out that day, LOL.) Potter is HUGE with young kids and I think parents will take them to see that over a superhero film. I could be wrong (and most likely will be), but that last Potter film is going to be HUGE.

joey says:

i wil choose final harry potter movie.because book is very thriller.
however i can’t wait nolan’ Inception.we know he is amazing director.never mind oscars.go mr. nolan

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

If I had a choice, I would choose Avengers over Potter. But if they do come out on the same weekend, I think it will be a double-header for me.

huntthejest says:

Anyone else dressing up for the Avenger’s premiere? I gotta say, I’m already dissapointed that the friends I’m seeing watchmen with won’t dress up(on the bright side, there’s actual girls going with us, and when I show up in my bright blue paint and black speedo, we’ll see who’s impressed) but no one can stop me from sporting the red white and blue to see Earth’s mightiest heroes. Thoughts?

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

@huntthejest
I don’t think they make those costumes in my size: extra galactic septillion-E size. 8-)

Andy S says:

@hunthejest…

What in the WORLD is the point of dressing up for a MOVIE? No offense man, but I see that and I think “That dude has NEVER gotten any.” Halloween party, cool. Movie premiere-not.
