We are well into the summer movie season now and so far the movies have been hit (Star Trek) or miss (Wolverine, Terminator 4). Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is looking to be in the ‘hit’ column and if the trailer is any indication, it should have no problem doing so.

To keep the hype building, Warner Brothers has released four new TV clips which we have for you below.

The only red flag I see here is the slight over-marketing trend Warner Brothers seem to be following. Before Terminator Salvation came to theaters, the viral market was flooded with “new” footage helping to hype the film. A lot of critics and fans were concerned that the studio felt the film couldn’t hold up on it owns merit and that they need to boost hype by showing us more footage than is usually necessary.

In the case of T4, they were correct. The box office numbers prove that point, as do audience discussions and critic reviews. Watch the newly released TV spots and see if you get the same feeling for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

I’m personally from the school of thought that less is more. Even though I don’t normally do it, I watched all four of these spots and they show mostly the same footage.  If the last five movies are any indication, this Harry Potter film should do just fine on opening weekend.

Do the new TV spots help make up your mind to see the film or were you planning on seeing it anyway?

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opens in theaters July 15, 2009.

  1. Honestly, I was going to see this movie anyway. I don’t think Harry Potter needs much help in boosting audience figures. The anticipation for this movie has been staggering, especially since they pushed it back almost a full year. Should b ea good one.

  2. I can’t wait for this film

  3. i dont understand why everyone seems to dislike T4 other than it was void of humor but it is after all a post apocalyptic world where people are killed by machines everyday. Hilarious?

  4. @TravisD – I didn’t dislike T4 per se but I was very dissappointed in it. It was too predictable and the story felted forced. Not everything needs humor to be the driving factor in it but the secondary characters could have been given a few slightly humorous scenes to break up the serious tone and give us a chance to breathe.

  5. i still haven’t seen either t4 or x-men but that’s only because I’m poor. with that said i am going to see hp6 as soon as it hits the cinema. the day of. only cause I’m a fan, duh.

  6. I absolutely can’t wait to see this film, it’s been a long time coming after the delayed release from last year. The clips i’ve seen of this movie just add to the excitement.

  7. Cannot. Wait. Wow.

  8. I don’t have time to watch t4 and X-men cause i’m a working mom however if HP6 hit the big screen I will surel a lot a time to watch it. I’m a huge fan of HP books and movies, though I’m quite sad it only have 7 books (we want more!) and at the same time thankful to J.K. Rowlings for sharing HP’s adventures to the world.

  9. by the way why do they have to release short trailers for HP. Just watching the full trailer, people will be trilled and curious about the movie and HP already had a million fans sinces the HP1. So what are they afraid of?
