Awhile back, it was widely reported that Spider-Man helmer Sam Raimi was in negotiations to direct a reboot of the Jack Ryan film series - currently aiming for a summer 2010 release.
Since that news broke, we haven’t heard a word from Paramount regarding the 4th resurrection of Tom Clancy’s CIA hero.
But now Cinema Blend claims things are moving forward. Furthermore, the studio is considering bringing Harrison Ford back to reprise the role of his 3rd most well-known character - Sorry, Deckard fans! Ford previously portrayed Ryan in Patriot Games and Clear & Present Danger.

Interestingly, Ford was originally set for a 3rd outing back in the late 90s with The Sum of All Fears. After God knows how many drafts were written, Ford opted out; supposedly because he was disturbed by the idea of a nuclear bomb going off in the middle of a football game - pre 9/11, mind you.
I realize Ford’s hot at the moment with Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull doing so well at the box-office - especially after it’s 5-day opening weekend gross of $151 million! But I don’t buy this. It sounds more like a random idea from some nameless Paramount executive during a meeting.
The studio has officially said the next Ryan installment will be a reboot with a younger actor - think Daniel Craig’s 007 and Jason Bourne.
You can chalk this one up as interesting, but highly doubtful…

Highly unlikely, true, but not impossible. IF I remember correctly, there were later installments in the Jack Ryan novels that had him older and as President. Could it be they are adapting one of those for the big screen?
You are remembering correctly. It was in Debt of Honor where he ascended to the Presidency at the end of the book.
I haven’t read any of the books beyond that, so I don’t know much more than that, though.
what happened to Ryan Gosling?
I was never a fan of these films but after seeing Indy 4, well let’s just say even Jack Ryan would be retired at his age.
Besides you can’t beat 24 for this kinda action.
I didn’t really like The Sum of All Fears too much, and probably won’t see any more Jack Ryan films based on that. However, if they brought Harrison Ford in, I’d definitely be game - and I haven’t even seen the other Jack Ryan films!
