New ‘Hannibal’ Trailer and Teaser Image Build Hype for Season 2

Published 1 year ago by

[Warning: SPOILERS for the first season of Hannibal follow]

It’s a wonder that Hannibal, one of NBC’s riskiest new ventures, turned out as well as it did. The beautifully shot, genuinely frightening series breathed new life into a previously moribund property. Even after many surreal twists and turns, many viewers still weren’t prepared when Hannibal ended its first season with protagonist Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) incarcerated for the crimes committed by Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen).

With Hannibal‘s new season set to premiere in a month, NBC has begun the requisite trickle of promotional teasers and images. The newest trailer for the series evokes the series’ detailed depictions of Lecter’s cannibal cooking to remind viewers that the man is still free to pursue his gruesome appetites.

Along with this newest preview, NBC has released an image that serves as a neat shorthand for Hannibal‘s newest status quo:

Hannibal Season 2 Teaser Image 280x170 New Hannibal Trailer and Teaser Image Build Hype for Season 2

The image jibes with new information about season 2 of Hannibal shared by EW. With Graham in prison, Lecter has apparently stepped in to help the FBI profile and track killers in his stead. However, Graham isn’t going to take Lecter’s manipulations lying down. Newly confident in his own health and sanity, Graham will do everything in his power to clear his name and prove that Lecter is the Chesapeake Ripper.

So far, the promotional campaign for season 2 of Hannibal has been heavy on thematic content and very light on any direct information about the upcoming season. This is perfectly in keeping with the show’s nightmarish aesthetic, but it could end up frustrating fans who want a clearer picture of what’s actually coming up for Graham, his colleagues, and the good Dr. Lecter himself.

What do you think, Screen Rant readers? Are these bite-sized bits of Hannibal atmosphere enough, or do you want a full trailer for season 2?

Hannibal will begin its second course on February 28th, 2014, on NBC.

  1. Awesome show!! Can’t wait

  2. Overrated

    • Explain why, please.

      • At the risk of sounding like a (The book is better than the film) dick, lock yourself in a dime light room, read all the books back to back. Then come back and tell me this show is not dog s***.

        • So wait… you actually read Hannibal and Hannibal Rises then and didn’t come to the same “dog s***” conclusion about those books? Bare in mind I’ve read all the books, seen all the movies. Those last two books and their movie counterparts were crap as was the “Red Dragon remake” or whatever you want to call that waste of 2 hours.

        • Are you serious? The books, in my opinion, are terribly written. I actually think they transform the whole story with this new take Lecter’s story… The books, in comparison, are majorly cheesey and cringe-worthy. Blech.
          Gimme more Mikkelson-Lecter any day!
PLUS! What they do with the visuals in this TV SHOW are spectacular!

  3. Oh my gosh, YES. When I finally watched S1 on DVD I was first worried that Mr. Mikkelson wouldn’t own up to the character that mr. Hopkins so well defined, but he really has made this Lecter his own. In fact in some aspects I may even heretically prefer this version. (No I have not seen Brian Cox in Manhunt for any who might bring that up.)

And poor Will Graham… He’s such a great sympathetic character.

I hope so very much that this series can not only complete the Red Dragon based story they’re telling (at the pace Brian Fuller prefers) but also go on to cover the other novels as well. *Crosses Fingers*

  4. No need for a trailer when you have this:

    • This Tumblr page is actually really cool/loaded with info. Thanks Frank!

  5. The first season COMPLETELY surprised me. I really enjoyed the high production value and plot direction. Hope that continues into season two.

  6. Adore and adored it. Even got off my lazy rear and wrote a review for S1 for a different website. As for S2, I cannot help, or hope but help, feel that Will will use the assumption of his insanity to his advantage and “beat” Dr. Lecter. We will see. For once I do not want to over-analyse this and just enjoy every second of it.

February 28th. A double episode. As big a deal to me as any movie premiere. Simply cannot wait.

  7. Damn, they couldn’t even get the rights to Barney? What on earth is going on at MGM?

More information on season 2 for you:

  8. Haha, just realized you’ve already linked to the link I’ve just provided.

Here’s hoping they cast Tennant as Verger.
