The original space cowboy, Han Solo, is getting his own origin movie and Star Wars fans are hoping to find out more about their favorite straight shooter (because yes, Han shot first).

Starring Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, and Emilia Clarke, this film is the second Star Wars spin-off story and introduces us to a younger Han Solo who became a smuggler (and not a very good one, if you listen to Jabba). Naturally, we’ll get to see how he met his furry brother from another mother, Chewbacca, and how he scored the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian.

While the excitement for the movie is at an all-time high, there’s been a barrage of rumors that make Justice League look like a smooth production in comparison. From the departure of the directors to the secrecy around the actual plot, the perceived drama never seems to be far from this film’s headlines.

At this moment, though, it’s difficult to tell which rumors might end up being true. Sure, some have been debunked by the filmmakers and actors, but if we’ve learned one thing about Hollywood, it’s that it’s built on a foundation of denial. We’ll only know for certain what’s what when the film is released on May 25, 2018.

With that said, here are the 15 Han Solo Movie Rumors That Will Blow You Away.

15. Darth Vader Will Make An Appearance

When a Star Wars property is announced, it’s almost inevitable that everyone asks the big question: will Darth Vader make an appearance? The Han Solo film is no different and there’s been a lot of chatter about whether or not the Sith Lord would pop up.

When Rogue One’s Darth Vader actor, Spencer Wilding, pulled out of his Fandom Fest appearance, the website stated his backing out was because “he will be filming the newest film in the Star Wars Universe.” This naturally led to the belief that he’ll be picking up the red lightsaber once again for the Solo film. However, Wilding force-choked this speculation on his own personal Facebook page.

In the last week, though, the rumor reignited as That Hashtag Show reported that Darth Vader had been present on the set. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see if there’s any truth to this in the forthcoming weeks and months.

14. Ron Howard Is Reshooting A Large Portion Of The Film

After the departures of Phil Lord and Chris Miller from the directors’ chairs, one had to wonder just how much was going to change with the arrival of new director Ron Howard. If you believe the internet forums, he’s practically reshooting the entire movie.

Obviously the extent of the situation won’t be known until long after the film is released, but it does evoke the same line of questioning as what was the nature of Joss Whedon’s involvement in Justice League. Howard has posted many behind-the-scenes shots and images to social media, leaving many to wonder if there will be a Lord and Miller cut of the movie in the future.

While it’s unlikely that Howard started completely from scratch, it’s entirely plausible that he’s had to do more than just wrap things up.

13. Alden Ehrenreich Snitched On Lord And Miller

After Lord and Miller’s shocking exit from the film, more and more details about the fallout emerged. If Star Wars News Net is to be believed, Ehrenreich fired warning shots about the directors, after he was unhappy with the comical direction they were taking his character in.

One source described his Han as being comparable to Jim Carrey’s in Ace Ventura. Concerned, Ehrenreich aired his gripes to one of the producers, who in turn told head honcho Kathleen Kennedy about it. Kennedy requested to see the existing footage and the rest, as they say, is history.

Whether Ehrenreich did snitch on Lord and Miller, only the producers will know the truth. Nonetheless, there’s a part of us – much like the one that can’t look away from a car crash – that wants to see what Han Ventura could’ve been.

12. The Cantina Will Be One of the Main Settings

Star Wars Cantina band 15 Han Solo Movie Rumors That Will Blow You Away

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from previous films, Han’s favorite watering hole is the Mos Eisley Cantina located in the space port of Mos Eisley on the planet Tatooine. It’s a place where all the scoundrels go to knock back a few cold ones and enjoy the band’s infectious tunes.

Judging by one of Ron Howard’s set photos, it appears as if the cantina – or a cantina – will form part of a major action sequence in the film. It’s a little hard to tell from the picture, but the setting does look awfully familiar.

Considering the cantina is the first place where we’re introduced to Han, it would only make sense that it be a part of his standalone film as well. It’s the perfect homage, really.

11. Jabba The Hutt Will Appear

15 Han Solo Movie Rumors That Will Blow You Away

With Lando being a big part of proceedings here, it’s only natural to think that the slimy Jabba the Hutt will also appear in some way or the other. If That Hashtag Show’s sources are correct, the villain will be slithering his way into this film as well.

As per their sources, Jabba had a big role in the script that Lord and Miller were working on, and it was unlikely to change with Howard coming on board either. In fact, the character is reportedly crucial to the plot, so he can’t be cut even if Howard wanted to.

In terms of the character’s appearance, it’s rumored that he’ll be part CGI, part animatronic, merging his forms as we’ve seen in the films before. As long as he still says, “Han ma boo-kee, keelee ka-lya dooka,” we’ll be pleased.

10. Thandie Newton Is Portraying Han’s First Wife

Thandie Newton as Maeve in Westworld 15 Han Solo Movie Rumors That Will Blow You Away

Now, you can file this one under the “entirely possible” section. When British actress Thandie Newton was cast in the Han Solo film, many people wondered if she was set to portray Sana Starros, a smuggler introduced in the comics as Han’s first wife.

While in the source material, Han denies that she’s his wife, though Sana believes her “husband” to only be good at lying, and actually traveled across the galaxy to confront him about his appalling behavior. They’re not on the best terms, and it’d be certainly intriguing seeing this strange relationship being brought to life on the big screen.

In terms of appearance, Newton does fit Sana’s profile perfectly. There’s a good chance, though, that she might just be an original character created for the film universe and not have any ties to Sana at all.

9. Alden Ehrenreich Needed An Acting Coach

Well, if true, this is awkward. After beating out 2,500 actors to earn the coveted role of Han Solo, Lucasfilm was reportedly not too pleased with what they saw from Ehrenreich in the footage and decided to hire an acting coach to help get a better performance out of him.

It sounds rather troubling, and only adds fuel to the fire that Harrison Ford should be the only Han Solo, period. After all, why would the studio hire someone who didn’t have the necessary skills and charisma to pull this off?

Being the lead in a production of this magnitude is a daunting task, but it isn’t like Ehrenreich is a no-name newcomer with limited acting chops. Let’s apply some common sense here and not get too carried away with this rumor just yet.

8. Writer Lawrence Kasdan Acted As A Shadow Director

Lawrence Kasdan and George Lucas 15 Han Solo Movie Rumors That Will Blow You Away

Longtime Star Wars scribe Lawrence Kasdan has a lot of clout in the franchise, since his words have defined its best movies, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. If you believe the rumor mill, however, he was one of the main culprits responsible for Lord and Miller’s firings.

While Lord and Miller are renowned for their off-the-cuff and improvisational style, Kasdan prefers strict adherence to the written word on the page and was unhappy with how his script was being interpreted by the directors. Reportedly, Kasdan made his complaints vocal and Kennedy decided to have him step in as a sort of shadow director to steady the ship.

Naturally, this didn’t go down well with the directors and was allegedly one of the major reasons for them stepping away from the film.

7. The Film Will Be Titled ‘Solo’

Star Wars Han Solo Film Blaster Shooting 15 Han Solo Movie Rumors That Will Blow You Away

A few months ago, a series of leaked set photos showed crew T-shirts and memorabilia etched with the word ‘Solo’ on it. This led many to believe that Disney had decided on that as the official title of the movie. However, this rumor was quickly debunked by star Woody Harrelson.

Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Harrelson weighed in on several topics, including the name of the production. He said that it’s merely a “temporary” moniker for the moment and not official by any means.

While we’re sure that the actual name of the movie will be released soon enough, many believe that LEGO has already spoiled the title of the film as Han Solo: A Star Wars Story. After all, LEGO has an uncanny way of spoiling these sorts of things.

6. Lupita Nyong’o’s Maz Kanata Might Be Featured

One of the more exciting rumors is that Lupita Nyong’o’s Maz Kanata may make an appearance in the film. The character made her big-screen bow in 2015’s The Force Awakens, where it’s mentioned that she has a storied history with Han and Chewie, and she stole the show in her limited time.

Most of the chatter around her possible appearance began when Star Wars podcaster Steele Saunders interviewed a Funko representative at SDCC 2017. In their chat, the employee mentioned how excited he was for Han Solo and mentioned the impressive cast including the likes of “Emilia Clarke, Lupita Nyong’o, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson.”

Was this a faux pas on the Funko employee’s part, or is there any actual substance to what he said? Frankly, we hope it’s the latter.

5. Woody Harrelson Will Be Garris Shrike

When you see Woody Harrelson’s name attached to a production nowadays, you know he’s going to be someone important in the film. That’s why a lot of people were convinced that he was set to portray Garris Shrike in Han Solo.

If you’re unfamiliar with Shrike, he first appeared in The Paradise Snare novel, written by A. C. Crispin. He is credited as a former bounty hunter and criminal who raised the young Han – and he wasn’t exactly the nicest guy in the galaxy or even remotely kind to Han by any means.

While Harrelson confirmed that he is indeed playing Han’s mentor in the film, he told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that his character will be someone named Beckett. Maybe Beckett is just Shrike in another guise or in disguise?

4. This Film Will Set Up A Boba Fett Spin-Off

Star Wars Boba Fett 15 Han Solo Movie Rumors That Will Blow You Away

As the cinematic world of Star Wars expands in ways that we could’ve never deemed possible, more and more sequels and spin-offs are being mooted by industry insiders and diehard fans. Along with the news that we’d receive a Han Solo film, many wondered how long it would be until we saw a movie about the popular bounty hunter Boba Fett.

While the news of a standalone has gone relatively quiet as of late, there are murmurs that Fett might make an appearance in Han’s film, leading to his own spin-off in the future. It’s certainly a possibility – even if it’s a cameo – so it’s best not to write this rumor off just yet.

If Fett does indeed show up here, there’s only one logical choice of who should portray him: Manu Bennett, of course.

3. Danny DeVito To Star In The Film

Danny Devito in Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia 15 Han Solo Movie Rumors That Will Blow You Away

Now, this is a perfect example of how things can be taken out of context on the internet. Noted Star Wars superfan and award-winning actress Brie Larson tweeted out photos with the caption: “I met the cast of Star Wars. They Watched @GlassCastleFilm. This is fine.”

In the one photo, Woody Harrelson and Emilia Clarke were all smiles with Larson, as was It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Danny DeVito. For two whole minutes, the internet went into manic overload as everyone wondered if DeVito had been cast in a role that no one had known about before. Would he be Yoda?

Not long afterwards, though, Larson clarified her tweet, stating that DeVito is definitely not in Star Wars and he was just a “fan girl” with her.

2. George Lucas Could Have Taken Over From Lord and Miller

George Lucas Directing Star Wars 15 Han Solo Movie Rumors That Will Blow You Away

The ink wasn’t even dry on the announcement that Lord and Miller had abandoned their directing duties when names of possible replacements started being thrown around. The biggest of the lot? The man who started this whole universe back in 1977: George Lucas.

The rumor wasn’t given enough time to spread, though, as within two days Ron Howard was announced as the new director of the film. When questioned by TMZ about his thoughts on Howard’s hiring, Lucas was diplomatic as always, stating, “I think he’ll be great.”

Despite some pressing from the publication of what advice he could give Howard, Lucas decided to step away from that potential minefield, instead saying, “Nope. Not my job.” Maybe he has washed his hands of Star Wars after all.

1. Alden Ehrenreich Could Have Appeared In Rogue One

star wars rogue one chinese poster 15 Han Solo Movie Rumors That Will Blow You Away

When the news first broke that Ehrenreich had signed on with Disney to play Han Solo for at least three films, the speculation mounted that he could be making his first appearance in Rogue One.

If you think about it, it’s really a bit silly to fathom since Harrison Ford could’ve been digitally rejuvenated much like the filmmakers did with the late Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia in the movie. Thus, Ehrenreich wouldn’t have been needed.

Mind you, no one was really sure in which direction Rogue One’s general narrative would go, hence the nature of these sensational assumptions. Ultimately, it seems like it was a good move to keep the young Han out of that story and let our first introduction to him be in his own origin film.
