halloween 3d Halloween 3D Gets Writer and Director

Bloody Disgusting received confirmation that Patrick Lussier, the My Bloody Valentine 3D director and editor of numerous Wes Craven films has officially signed on to direct Halloween 3D.  You can exhale now.  Lussier’s former colleague Todd Farmer (who wrote My Bloody Valentine 3D) has signed on to pen the newest installment of the Halloween franchise.  So if you loved My Bloody Valentine 3D, chances are you’re all set for Halloween 3D (brought to you by Dimension Films).

To recap my earlier post on Halloween 3D, this will be the eleventh film in the horror franchise that has grossed more than $300MM worldwide, was started under the direction of John Carpenter and most recently rebooted by Rob Zombie.  The franchise has largely (although not exclusively) followed psycho killer Michael Myers through his Halloween night killing sprees.

Farmer knows his way around a scary-movie script, having written Jason X, The Messengers (the story for it, at least) and Messengers 2: The Scarecrow.  Lussier brought us Dracula 2000, Dracula II: Ascension and Dracula III: Legacy.  They are both also committed (as writer and director, respectively) to the upcoming Nicolas Cage action flick Drive Angry.  Bromance alert.

Ongoing collaborative relationships (ex. Burton/Depp, Scorcese/DiCaprio) have produced some real gems in film.  Let’s hope Lussier/Farmer only gets better with time.  What’s your favorite all-time two-person team in movie-making?

Michael Myers has had plenty of screen time over the last 20 years – but of course he’s not the only one.  Who’s your favorite scared-to-love-’em horror brutalizer that’s been in at least 3 films?

Dimension Films hopes to put Halloween 3D in movie theaters in the summer of 2010.

  1. The original H3 was subtitled “Season of the Witch” and had some frakked-up Halloween masks converting heads of the wearers to spiders/snakes/scorpions, etc.; PLEASE tell me they aren’t doing that storyline again, please?

  2. Please tell me this will have nothing to do with those awful Rob Zombie movies?

  3. didn’t he get killed in h2?
    oh yeah, i forgot…movie

  4. man that suks. now well never see my bloody valentine 2. bogus, couse i liked the movie (thats just my opinion)

i dont know why there making another halloween film if the 2nd one got terrible reviews and maid 3rd place in the box office. well i just hope this movie will be better then the other ones.

  5. Another Halloween movie, come on man that is just ridiculous

  6. Please don’t make it a sequal to Rob Zombies H-2.
Why not start again, and forget the 3D, or just
let Michael die with a little dignity left.

If you are doing it (Deminsion Films) to just keep milking it for money, then find out what the die hard fans of Halloween really want and make it for them, you will get your money in the process. Go back to the core of what Michael was really supposed to be, “purely and simply EVIL”

  7. NO! he will not die..How will that work? please tell me?… If you knew anything about halloween you’d know he has the curse of the thorn which makes him invincible.(explains alot eh?) WE NEED A GREAT DIRECTOR FOR AN AMAZING MOVIE WHO ISNT ROB ZOMBIE. I will always and forever love Michael Myers…signing off his wife.

  8. Hello Mrs Myers, my comment about Michael dying was in reference to the Halloween franchise itself. I understand that he can not be killed. Although Mr. Zombie was saying that he was playing Michael as a human,( which puzzles me because he survived injuries that would kill a human.) Anyway, I am fond of Michael too, I just want them to do it right.

    -C

  9. Your absolutely right. I hope they do Halloween the way John Carpenter would’ve wanted his creation to be. Whenever you watch Halloween the original one you can tell the movie is old however, if john carpenter were to make Halloween 3 with todays advanced technology, i think the movie would turn out great.

  10. OK first of all john carpenter has been away from a Halloween project for some time now and it would not be in his best interest to do another for that simple reason not to mention rob zombie does not even want to do another Halloween again i think because he showed Michael Myers being shot and killed at the end of the second which led to his sister being in an insane asylum and who would want to see Laurie his sister a killer just like he was well i can tell you i would not want to see that because Michael Myers has been the face of Halloween for over twenty-five years and that is something that should never be changed that is why in Halloween 3D they should have Michael do what he was set out to accomplish in the first place and that would be him trying to finish off his sister i can tell you that would be the best thing for them to do in Halloween 3D

  11. wow that is the longest sentence I have ever read with out a single piece of punctuation in it. :)

  12. well i did not use punctuation because i was lost in the moment of typing and i did not really wont to anyways. I don,t use punctuation unless at school or work and only if it is extremely important. I no that might seem weird to you though.

  13. Oh and it may be a long comment with out punctuation but at least i know people are reading it. another thing i am getting my point across and some people actually understand what im saying.

  14. Fair enough

  15. Nah i still dislike zombies directing style, but you're entitled to your opinion.

  16. rob zombie had his own take on the movie and at least it was not some Hollywood failure were it would have just been looked at and thrown away. See Rob zombie has a special mind set for horror movies and even if he is making sequel to something the case usually is that it is going to be different but not all of it because it would still have to pick up from some were although that is what makes robs movies so special.

  17. Both of his Halloween films were considered to be big box office failures. The Weinstein Company invested heavily in both films and barely took in what it cost to make each. You're logic is not only flawed but it hurts my brain. For the love of gravy man, use a comma or mix in a period. :)

  18. (what ever) and ya no what i have been watching rob zombie movies for a while OK the weinstein company sais rob zombies movies are failures then why did they not just take one look at it and throw it away answer me that. not to mention there is a hole in your logic if they invested heavily in Halloween by rob zombie then why would they invest in the second one if they had taken one look at it and said it was garbage oh yeah because it usually depends on how many people actually go and see the movie and just because it did not do as expected does not mean it did not make any money cause it did and there are a very large sum of people that like rob zombie movies and no what hes about like me. As for my punctuation and for putting periods and commas in my sentences that is my buisness and ill do that if i feel like it. OH and get on rob zombies level you might actually no what hes about if you do until then do not say his movies are complete failures because there are people that are going to disagree with you. oh and one more thing people that make the movie are usually are in it to make money there would not be any point in it if not so HUH.

  25. Let me do Halloween 3 Atleast I would care what my fans thought and what they had to say.
And yea I understand John carpenter has been away from the film some quite time but who says he can’t come back? Rumors hear it tht he’s going to be a part of halloween3d but you know what?if it ends up being a box office failure atleast I know someone who knew what they were doing tried it and it failed opposed to someone who had no real history.oh yea and did any of you guys see John carpenter’s interview with Fangoria? He got permission to take “Halloween” out of moustapha akkads hands, who was at first iffy about him taking head of the production, and made it a legend!
