Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is now open at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando and is causing problems for the park, due to how great it is! Opening June 13, 2019 the new attraction saw wait times of up to 10 hours on its first day, and for the day following the park had to stop allowing guests in hours early due to the demand.

We had the chance to visit the new Hagrid roller coaster (it's described as a "story coaster") days early and experience the grand opening with several stars of the Harry Potter movies and can safely say that the hype is real. There's simply nothing like Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, and it's our favorite coaster in all of the Orlando parks (not just Universal's).

In less than two years, Universal Orlando shut down and replaced one of its Harry Potter themed rides - the Dragon Challenge - at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter area of Universal Studios' Islands of Adventure in Orlando. Now, fitting with the growing size and theme of Hogsmeade, sits a wall where on the other side is the Forbidden Forest where students of Hogwarts should not go! Thanks go Hagrid, you do though, and witness some fantastical creatures along a journey that we can best describe as full of twists, both figuratively and physically!

How Does Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure Work?

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure features super detailed sets and a forest packed with more than 1,200 trees. It utilizes ground-breaking coaster technology and is described as the world's first "story coaster," due to how it presents its themed elements.

The journey begins as guests join Hagrid’s Care of Magical Creatures class and enter mysterious ruins, lain abandoned for centuries behind Hagrid’s hut and nestled on the edge of one of the most mysterious places in the Wizarding World – the Forbidden Forest. With Hagrid as their guide, guests will board magical motorbikes – riding on either the motorbike or in the adjacent sidecar – and feel the freedom of flight as they journey into the forest to discover the Wizarding World’s rarest magical creatures. They’ll ascend above the trees, rapidly accelerate through the ruins, rush forward – and backward – at speeds up to 50 mph and more on an unforgettable adventure with a few surprises along the way.

There are several parts of the experience where guests get launched at super fast speeds, and yes, after being shot upward toward the sky (this part is incredible at night when you can see the moon like we did!) you go backward in a different direction before coming to a stop inside a dangerous cave. And then, you fall through the track onto another and proceed forward again. "Become entangled in a thicket of Devil’s Snare and unexpectedly free-fall nearly 17 feet to escape the perilous plant," is the official description. Hagrid's coaster is exhilarating, beautiful, and insanely dynamic. And riding on bikes (or their sidecars) only enhances the experience.

Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure Centaur

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure features Hagrid himself of course (most life-like animated figure Universal Orlando has ever created), and several amazing creatures including a majestic Centaur, a swarm of mischievous Cornish pixies, Fluffy, the three-headed dog, Blast-Ended Skrewts (a creature that’s never been seen in the films), Grindylows and Selkies, unicorns, a nod to a Manticore, and more!

There are even dragon eggs on the way in...
