A new update to the Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! theme park ride has revealed the first look at Surtur's ferocious dragon, who will be appearing later this year in Marvel's Thor: RagnarokWith less than two months to go now until Ragnarok hits theaters around the world, it's becoming more evident just which comic book characters and places fans can look forward to seeing pop up throughout its runtime. That includes the introduction of Cate Blanchett's villainous Hela, the Goddess of Death, who will kick start the film's version of the Ragnarok storyline from the comics, along with elements from the Planet Hulk comic book.

But Ragnarok will also feature the appearances of several notable creatures and powerful characters from the Marvel universe, who Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) will have to fight during their mission to save the universe from complete destruction. Two of those characters showed up briefly in the last Thor: Ragnarok trailer, which teased the Hulk fighting both the Fenris Wolf and Surtur, with the latter's appearance causing a wave of excitement amongst Marvel fans everywhere.

In case that wasn't enough, it also turns out that Surtur won't be appearing by himself when Thor and The Hulk finally come to blows with him in the film, as Marvel has revealed today (via MCU_Tweets) a first look at one of Surtur's monstrous fire dragons. And while the dragon will first be making his appearance in the Halloween update of Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!, it has been confirmed that the character will also be showing up in Ragnarok. You can check out the first look at the dragon for yourself down below:

For those who are wondering, the Guardians of the Galaxy ride update - titled Monsters After Dark - picks up following the events of Mission: BREAKOUT!, when the Guardians realize they have left Baby Groot behind in the Collector's Fortress. Park visitors will accompany Rocket through the Fortress at night, during his search for Groot, while also having to avoid some dangerous and scary creatures that have escaped from their cells, including Surtur's Fire Dragon. The Monsters After Dark ride update will run in the Disneyland Resort throughout the entire Halloween season from September 15 - October 31.

While the sudden appearance of a terrifying Fire Dragon might have felt like a crazy idea for most Marvel movies, it somehow feels especially in line with the tone and style of Thor: Ragnarok. Directed by Taika Waititi, the film has fully embraced the kind of lighthearted 1980s action adventure movie tone, for better or worse. But for anyone out there who might still be skeptical of Ragnarok, the thought of getting to see a Clancy Brown-voiced version of Surtur commanding a fire dragon against Thor and Hulk should at least help to boost some excitement in the final weeks leading up to its release.
