Don’t worry Marvel movie fans, the first Guardians of the Galaxy trailer is just around the corner. For real. What we initially expected to be part of a ‘big game’ debut during the Super Bowl by Disney, the public’s very first look at footage from Guardians of the Galaxy is instead happening next week.

While Disney took the buzz around Super Bowl 48 to promote several films coming in the near future (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Muppets Most WantedNeed For Speed), they held off on Guardians just a little longer – despite its increased need for marketing – and its first trailer was classified earlier this week.

Thanks to Yahoo! however, we know that the 2:23 Guardians of the Galaxy trailer will release at the very latest, next Tuesday, February 18th. The confirmation came in an apparent slip-up by Yahoo Singapore who quickly took their revealing tweet down afterward, drawing even more attention to the news by pretending it didn’t happen (That’s happened before – see: April Fools hilarity).

Oddly enough, there aren’t many major expected box office hits coming in the next few weeks for the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer to come attached to. There’s RoboCop this weekend (already in theaters) and Pompeii next week. Since the trailer was rated “PG” expect Disney to couple it with Need For Speed and Muppets Most Wanted and if they did what they did with Captain America 2 before Thor 2 in November, Marvel moviegoers may see an extended trailer with The Winter Soldier at the beginning of April.

As soon as that first trailer hits though, expect it to be followed up with extensive marketing throughout late spring and of course, throughout the summer (with trailers definitely attached to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past). The first Guardians of the Galaxy trailer should precede a pile of posters, stills, character images and a hopefully revealing official site. Disney and Marvel need to do everything they can to make the Guardians seem as exciting as possible, and make it feel like it’s part of the same universe as the already proven properties.

[Update 1 (Feb 17): The Marvel Thailand Facebook page confirmed that we’ll get the trailer tomorrow.]

  1. This one is gonna be epic!!! Out of the 4 super hero movies coming out this year, this is the one that excites me more by far. Praise Marvel’s big cojones.

  2. I decided a long time ago that I’m going to see this movie, but I’m concerned it might turn off the average movie goer. The main cast includes a talking raccoon and a talking tree and it’s not a musical. Should Marvel be concerned? Will this be the next big hit or the first bomb for the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

    • Mickey Mothra – Eh I think you’re more worried about it than you should be honestly. If the movie looks fun, and reviews back it up, the masses will come.

I mean remember 11 years ago when box-office poison Johnny Depp played that strange rambling pirate in a movie based off a friggin theme park ride and won the masses over?

    • Bombs in the MCU:

      Iron Man 2, Incredible Hulk

(And frankly, Thor 2 was terrible.)

      • Bombs… you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

        • Nice princess bride reference there Bladeseeker and buh none of those films you listed were “bombs” although the incredible hulks box office takings were a little disappointing.

      • Buh. Some friends of mine made that word up in high school. That made me laugh. Smar.

        • I laughed unnecessarily hard at this. Say it out loud and you’ll understand.

  3. So emm like tomorrow ?

  4. Can’t wait! I’m really curious how this will turn out. It has the potential to be a complete trainwreck or to be super-awesome.

    • You are obviously not a die hard Marvel fan if you have doubts. Anything with Marvel attached to it will explode in popularity, this will be the biggest, funnest and baddest Marvel movie yet.

      • Well, I’m one of the few people who love Iron Man 3, but Thor: The Dark World was indeed a bit lackluster, and don’t get me started on Agents of SHIELD. Marvel being in the lackluster part of Phase Two combined with the doctorwhoish craziness of Guardians of the Galaxy could lead to a catastrophe really fast. I hope for best but am prepared for the worst.

But no, I’m not a die hard Marvel fan. I just like good movies in the sci-fi/fantasy genre, which Marvel movies happen to be for the most part. I don’t read the comics.

  5. Guardians of the Galaxy!!!! YAYA!!!!!!!! I can’t wait for this movie! Seems super awesome!
    <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 XOXOXOXOXXOXOXOXOX

  6. Setting my expectations low so my mind will be blown tomorrow!

    • same here.. i need to calm the f.u.c.k down cuz im excited as hell:)

    • Sure sounds like it. lololol

    • What if, despite your reasonable low expectations, you are still disappointed?

  7. Haha.

    Guardians of the galaxy

  8. Can’t wait until tomorrow. Hope this trailer punches us in the face.

  9. I think what this film and the Marvel movies in general have going for it is that almost each of the releases presents something new or a new angle. Spiderman has been screened for almost 14 years now, the same with X-Men (and Batman and Superman over and over). New Marvel characters done well along with an ever changing line-up of Avengers within a cinematic universe is brilliant. GotG is just another piece of this. Weird as it might be (and I wasn’t that into it early on) and least it will be something that we haven’t seen on screen before and part of a bigger whole. Looking forward to preview tomorrow to get a taste of what’s to come!

  10. all i ask is for a nice shot of Gamora

  11. this movie is going to be horrible smh

    • Kill yourself

    • “This movie is going to be horrible” says my horse?

That’s what you said, right? In that case, tell your horse he’s wrong and that if he keeps up that kind of attitude, he’ll be served up for dinner in an East Asian country.

      • Or France. Hell here in blighty as well only you’ll think you’re eating beef.

  12. My most looked foaward to movie of 2014. Followed by Cap:TWS, Interstellar,Transcendence, and Godzilla.

  13. If it has even one tenth of the awesomeness of the Abnett Lanning run from 2008 this is going to be stellar.

    I am Groot!

  14. Tomorrow Will Be The Best! Finally ” I Am Groot!” and a angry gun shooting Racoon in SPACE.. what more can anyone ask for? :-)

  15. What time? So I can set my alarm clock :)

    • When you hear nerds start squealing in delight, that’s what time the trailer drops.

  16. Is it Feb 18th yet? No. Is it Feb 18 now? No. How about now? No. Now? No. Is it… Stop asking you little dork! – I just had a fully blown mental explosion of a conversation in my head (with my self, sad i know but i’m way exited for this).

  17. here enjoy guys :D

    • Would’ve been more funnier if it was a raccoon instead of a monkey.

    • OMG!!! That’s too awesome!! Gamora looks more alien, I love it. An lol Rocket has the Star-Lord emblem on his chest. Can’t wait for this movie!!!!

  18. is seeing a trailer for GofG cool – sure of course – but does it REALLY make a difference THIS early before the movie comes out – NO it doesn’t. Stop acting like this movie needs all this marketing – cause no one’s ever heard of GofG – so what ??
it’s a Marvel / Disney movie – that alone is marketing – without even giving the movie a name – there are two movies already being promoted for 2016 & 2017.

also this movie – GofG – has been getting TONS of promotion in every way possible are various websites – EVERYWHERE – ie. Huffington Post and tons of other non-movie sites – every time something about the movie comes out – ie. casting, etc – there’s a story across the internet. It’s going to be a late summer blockbuster – of course the general public will know about it – do you think there is ANYONE who won’t know about it by the time the premiere rolls around ??

all the actors are fan favorites from various other movies, tv shows, etc – hell they could never show 1 trailer and the fans alone – of just the actors involved will go support it … tell their friends .. and then tell others, etc — s*** Vin Diesel could put one message on his Facebook and that goes to millions of people right there.

the made the right choice in not wasting money on a commercial for the Superbowl – why would they ? CAWS comes out first anyways – promote what you have lined up not look so far ahead that people will say … “what it comes out in Aug ? who cares?”
what average movie goes plans their weekend 6 – 7 months in advance … to go see a movie? a concert or something that’s a one time thing – like a friend’s wedding – sure of course … a movie … NEVER.

in the world of Facebook, Twitter and viral videos – publicity is free .. if you do it right. And now every website in the world promotes everything –, huffpo … every newspaper in the country/ world – mtv, yahoo and THOUSANDS of other sites – not including the hundreds or thousands of websites dedicated to genre movies

they probably just save money – show the trailer with CAWS — then with the X-Men and then BAM .. on every tv channel – all day long for the month of July – - wow … everyone will know it’s coming out –

so debuting it too soon is just a waste of money and a lot of the movie is still a long way from being close to finished.
it’s a Marvel project – at this point EVERYTHING they do gets instant publicity

and now to top it off – Chris Pratt is a A-level actor thanks to the Lego movie plus his role in Jurassic World … August is just waiting for him to be king of the box office. the general movie goer knows about GofG because it’s already been getting plenty of press – EVERYWHERE. – go ahead look it up

  19. I swear, man…this better take me to the moon and back. Gotta get me over the whole “talking raccoon” hump…
