The Avengers might be capable of avenging the Earth, but it takes a special brew of talent to guard the entire galaxy. That’s the task that befalls the ragtag group of new Marvel heroes in upcoming sci-fi adventure Guardians of the Galaxy, and it’s a task that only an outlaw, an assassin, a maniac, a tree and a raccoon can accomplish.

Guardians of the Galaxy launches off of our home planet and into space with young Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), a child of the ’80s who becomes a (sort of) legendary space outlaw called Star-Lord. After being sent to prison, Star-Lord plans a daring escape with his fellow inmates Drax (Dave Bautista) Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Groot (Vin Diesel) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and the ex-convicts decide to team up and help to save the galaxy from the fanatical Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and his allies.

It’s a worthy mission with a rather sordid start. To help bring out the heroic sides of the Guardians, Marvel has released a new set of character posters that showcase the nobility of the tree, the majesty of the raccoon and the… stabbiness of the assassin. Groot is really the only character who manages to look friendly, but Rocket’s poster looks like it would be effective recruitment material for the space raccoon army. That gun appears to be the same size as him, but that doesn’t stop Rocket from wielding it.

With the release of Guardians of the Galaxy now only a month away we’ve been enjoying a plethora of marketing lately, include an invitation to Marvel fans to see a 17-minute preview of the movie in IMAX 3D for free at 150 locations across North America. If you haven’t already requested a ticket then we recommend doing so right now. The screenings that haven’t already filled up are running out of seats fast and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Head HERE if you want a sneak peek at the movie (plus a free poster).

Guardians of the Galaxy boasts a very diverse cast that includes not only plant and animal life, but also many people of color, including green people and blue people. One of these blue people, Yondu, is played by The Walking Dead star Michael Rooker and has only been seen in candid set photos so far. Director James Gunn has now shared a new image of Yondu, showing him silhouetted with his drastically shortened fin. Gunn said that he decided to make the change from the “flamboyant and flowing three foot fin” shown in the comics to something more modest because “I like it better and believe it.”

Guardians of the Galaxy will be Marvel’s second release of the year and has a tough act to follow after Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which won widespread acclaim from critics and grossed over $700 million at the worldwide box office. Guardians of the Galaxy represents a much bigger risk for Marvel and Disney, since it features characters that audiences won’t already be familiar with and has a (literally) very far out premise. With its promised mix of heart and humor, however, Guardians of the Galaxy might just have what it takes to rival even Marvel’s heaviest hitters.

Assuming that Guardians of the Galaxy doesn’t disappoint, which of the above character posters would you most like to have on your wall to celebrate it? Or would you rather just frame that photo of Yondu?

  1. I can’t wait for this movie!!!

  2. I need more fin…

    • Doesn’t look like a fin, more like hair chopped up Mohawk.

  3. Ok, I have been and still am really hyped for this movie, but I am dissappointed in the Yondu fin! And Gunn’s whole reasoning for it is just shtako, “I like it better and believe it”, really? What about the fans who like the original better?

    • Gunn actualy did go into detail about not using the ‘big fin’ saying fans may be disappointed by it. I sure am, as I’d actually like to see the fin. It appeared, through set photos, that the fin may be CGI’d onto Rooker, as when I first saw set photos of Rooker, his ‘Fin’ er ‘mohawk’ was GREY, and not ‘RED’, as this (one) lo-res promo image suggests.

  4. Yea the fin could be a bit bigger. So that he’s more Yondu than just blue Michael Rooker.
I want a Guardians/Inhumans crossover so bad. That and Secret Avengers!

    • well RDJ isnt being Iron Man again after age of ultron, chris evans is done after cap 3 and maybe the avengers 3 so there gonna have to bring in more charaters to fill that void…the winter soldier will probably take over as cap being Stan signed like 5 or 6 picture deal…id like to see a hawkeye/black widow film, like them working for SHIELD after the events of age of ultron

      • Actually RDJ is signed on for Avengers 3, but no IM4.

  5. The posters look awesome. I really can’t wait for this movie.

  6. I for one am really glad both Rocket and Groot get their solo poster.
Now give us one for each villains please!!!

  7. 1 more month to go

  8. What if they played off of the bromance between RDJ and Ruffalo to help send away RDJ by having hulk go nuts and straight up smash ironman. That’s why he gets voted off the island (or planet this time). Imagine the impact that would have.

  9. I had the pleasure of being in this movie alongside Michael Rooker and I can assure you he looked awesome. You won’t be disappointed

    • so who are you playing?

    • Sorry, I already am disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, I think Michael Rooker is a great actor and think he can definitely do justice to the Yondu character, but I was thinking the same thing as someone else commented above. When they first released set photos of him I was thinking “Where’s his fin? That isn’t Yondu, it’s just a blue skinned Michael Rooker. I sure hope they are gonna CGI it.”
I mean really, with just the blue skin, he might as well just be a Kree.

  10. Man I thought it would be cool if At the end credits scene, we’d see Black Bolt looking out towards vast space, turns to Medusa and says “It’s time, my Love…..”
    Wouldn’t that be awesome!!!?!?

    • Yea. Except Black Bolt doesn’t talk.

      • Yeah, that’s exactly what I thought when I started reading that comment. Of course they could have him saying that with massive destruction happening in the wake of his voice?

        • Or he scribbles the words on paper and shows Medusa who reads it allowed.

    • Hee-hee, that I would be on board for!

Hope Groot does not have leaf-rot; I hear it’s bad this time of year!

  11. I don’t care about this movie.
I know it will be great I just want it to introduce another gem.
I want Thanos to be a end credit scene taking the Gem.

Listen Captain America is the truth why would I lie?

As long as Avengers 2 has him as their leader nothing could go wrong.

  12. Somebody make a Groot plushie pleaaaaaseee….

  13. disney -.-

  14. I always liked YONDU growing up but I dont really care about Movie Yondu….hes an original GOTG. However they use him is fine. I dont consider this GOTG really even. Just a good Marvel space movie…I’ll go see it cause no one else but Marvel is putting out quality comic book movies.
