Around this time last year, a lucky few people got to see the very first footage from James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy in a sneak preview trailer shown at San Diego Comic Con. Now there are only a few weeks left before Marvel’s sci-fi superhero movie arrives in theaters for all to see. How time flies.

For those who can’t wait until August, and want a chance to see some Guardians of the Galaxy footage before almost anyone else, Marvel has announced that special IMAX 3D previews – showing 17 minutes of scenes from Guardians of the Galaxy – will be held all over over America on July 7th. The events are being held for free at 150 theaters all over North America, and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. (You still reading this? Order tickets HERE!)

In order to attend this preview all you have to do is visit See It First and select the theater that’s closest to you (or one that’s really far away, if you feel like a road trip). It’s likely that the preview footage will include the same clips that were shown at another screening held recently in Barcelona, so expect to see Peter Quill’s original escape from Earth, the Guardians busting out of prison, and a first look at Michael Rooker playing Yondu. As if that wasn’t motivation enough, those who attend the screening will also receive this eye-blistering limited edition poster for free.

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt as the infamous outlaw Star-Lord AKA Peter Quill, who one day crosses paths with a ragtag group of criminals and thugs that includes assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana), vengeful maniac Drax (Dave Bautista), angry raccoon Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and a walking tree called Groot (Vin Diesel). When a powerful villain called Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) threatens to wipe out billions of lives in his pursuit of power, the five unlikely heroes decide to form a team and defend the galaxy from destruction.

Tickets to the preview screenings are probably going to disappear fast, so if you want to get an early look at Guardians of the Galaxy in IMAX and 3D on July 7th then don’t waste any time putting in a request.

Guardians of the Galaxy is out in theaters on August 1st, 2014.

  1. Free?? Ok I’m in.

I would have thought they would charge for this….. Early cash grab for the GOTG property…. But free?

  2. Shame they’re only showing 17 minutes.

I saw the ad for the film being released in IMAX 3D during the screening of Godzilla I saw in that format and if I could go free of charge, I’d do it but otherwise, I generally refuse to watch superhero films in anything other than regular 2D.

  3. Wow. I’m in. Nearest IMAX to me….. Easy peasy. Ticket printed and I’m good to go.

  4. Done and done.

  5. Maybe I’ll pass. Watching it might make the wait for the full movie even more difficult. Would have totally paid to watch a full feature screening though.

  6. Why would anyone go see 17min 2 weeks before the movie comes out? What’s the point? Just wait and SEE THE WHOLE THING!!

  7. Nope. Noooo, I’ll wait for the whole thing. Yes I want to see this movie so bad I’m about to adopt a set raccoons genetically alter their young so it can walk upright, talk and has a love for both trees and guns of many sizes! but 17 minutes would be torture if I must wait to see the rest..

  8. Wait, so this is only 17 minutes??? I thought it was the movie, plus 17 minutes of exclusive footage?? WTF?

  9. Sucks. All gone the ones in orlando before I could get any :(

  10. I got mine for Miami!!! Hell yea. Been waiting for this one since it’s been announced.

    • You didn’t get the last one for Aventura 24 did you? It was “Available” when I went to the link, then when I clicked submit and logged in, they were all gone… So I had to pick Cobb Dolphin… *barf*

  11. Alas the same venue that did this with “Winter Soldier” has again been selected for the screening in my City…. as 587 of us in line ( 2 plus hours early) the screening room only held 186. Needless to say we did not get in and will not risk this.

  12. no tickets available for my local theater, but my daughter works there and will find out about it for me.

  13. Hi, is there any tickets available for us in South Africa or we marginalised?

  14. I just saw the 17 minute preview.
I was laughing my ass off the entire time and the visuals were incredible.
    Awesome awesome awesome!
