A few months after finally showing the first footage for the film, Marvel unveils a new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer for the Super Bowl, complete with more looks at the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Adam Warlock, played by Midsommar's Will Poulter. The threequel, which marks writer/director James Gunn's swan song in the franchise, will see the team having to fight to save Rocket after the dark details of his past come back to haunt him, putting them on a collision course with The High Evolutionary, played by Peacemaker's Chukwudi Iwuji. The group will also have to contend with the powerful Warlock hunting them down, having been created by the Sovereign with the sole purpose of revenge.

As anticipation grows for the emotional final chapter, Marvel has debuted a new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer.

The video, released during Super Bowl LVII, gives a deeper look at the upcoming MCU threequel, namely Poulter's Adam Warlock, who was only briefly glimpsed in the previous trailer fighting Karen Gillan's Nebula. The new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer also reveals more of Chukwudi Iwuji's High Evolutionary and his villainous plans for the galaxy.

Everything the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Trailer Reveals

Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3-1

Tthe first footage for the MCU threequel efficiently set its tone, featuring plenty of melancholic shots of the cosmic superhero team facing the music. The new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer goes a step further in highlighting the emotional story to come from the film, much of which seems poised to center around Rocket Raccoon, as previously teased by Gunn, and the High Evolutionary. While Rocket's origins have largely been kept a secret up to this point, the new trailer points to the villain being behind the creation of Bradley Cooper's character, thus pointing to the High Evolutionary hunting him down through the story.

One of the other big points to come from the new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer is new footage of Will Poulter's Adam Warlock. While the new footage doesn't offer much more than the previous trailer, it does at least offer better looks at the character's powers, including his abilities of flight and to harness Quantum Magic to create bright energy constructs, as seen in the brief clip of his fight with Bautista's Drax at some point in the movie. It does remain unclear, however, whether Warlock will be teaming with the High Evolutionary to bring down the Guardians, or if they will be hunting the team down separately.

The one question the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer doesn't help answer, however, is which of the team members may bite the bullet by the end. Most theories have pointed to Rocket dying by the end, though the new footage offers plenty of shots hinting Drax may be the one to die, a point further validated by Bautista's confirmation of ending the role. Only time will tell when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5.
