Marvel found a diamond in the rough with Guardians of the Galaxy. The film was based on a comic that was more obscure than anything Marvel Studios had so far incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but its surprise success has made Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 one of the most anticipated films of 2017. For the sequel, James Gunn is back directing and has most of the original cast returning with Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Glenn Close (Nova Prime), and Sean Gunn (Kraglin) set to appear.

There are also a number of new characters set to be introduced. Kurt Russell's Ego and Pom Klementieff's Mantis figure to play important roles in the film, but it is Elizabeth Debicki's Ayesha and her Sovereign race that are said to be the villain. Thanks to the Super Bowl trailer, Ayesha has been seen, and now official stills have been released as well.

Marvel has officially released a number of stills from the trailer, giving everyone another chance to see some of the bigger moments. Ayesha clearly standouts, and not just because of her all-gold look. Elsewhere, the expanded Guardians roster is on display, as well as some new weaponry in the hands of Gamora and Rocket. Check out the stills below:

Just like the trailer that premiered with the images, not much in the way of new information is revealed. That said, the new batch of stills offer better looks at the Sovereign city, which appears to come early on in the film. Not only is Ayesha entirely gold, but the majority of the entire advanced city and race are covered in the same color as well.

However, there are also a number of upgrades shown for the team. Gamora is seen wielding a gun larger than she is -- most likely another creation of Rocket's -- although it is surprising he wouldn't want to keep it for himself. Who Gamora is shooting it at, is not known, but whatever threat is on the business end of that cannon is clearly a sizable threat. Rocket, meanwhile, not only has a new gun of his own, but also has a jet pack, which he is putting to use in two of the stills. With both him and Star-Lord now having this capability, it should be interesting to see what other upgrades the rest of the crew have.
