Marvel Studios found a diamond in the rough in 2014 with Guardians of the Galaxy. A movie starring unknown "heroes" where two of the main characters were a raccoon and a tree should not have worked, but director James Gunn was able to make it one of the surprise hits of the year and launched a new franchise for the MCU as a result. He began working on the sequel even before the movie hit theaters, and after all that time fans across the world are starting to be able to see his vision realized.

The marketing machine has not kicked into full gear just yet for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but that has not stopped teases from making their way online. The first poster simply told everyone "Obviously" the ragtag group would be back, and the first sneak peek offered up a refresher to everything people loved about the first film. Ever since then, the buzz has continued to rise for the first trailer to be released and it appears the wait is almost over.

While speaking to THR, Gunn confirmed that the first teaser trailer has been completed and should be arriving soon. Without a confirmed debut date, it will remain a mystery as to just when this teaser will be released, but when it and the subsequent trailers do, don't expect them to spoil the movie. He says that he and the marketing team at Marvel are being careful what they show: "We were talking about how much to give away — and we're not going to give away very much."

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 poster & characters

As for when the trailer could hit, the next two weeks is a broad but easy answer. Spider-Man: Homecoming will reportedly have a trailer attached to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and with Guardians 2 hitting theaters before, it would be strange for Marvel not to attach the trailer for the latter as well. If Marvel wants to spread apart the marketing push for their two films, the teaser could drop this weekend following the Guardians panel at Brazil Comic-Con on Saturday.

Regardless of when the teaser trailer debuts, it is comforting to know that Marvel and Gunn are being mindful of what they show. Nowadays fans comb through every frame of a trailer to dissect the meaning behind what is shown and find potential cameos or Easter eggs. So, the less new footage they show, the less likely it is that something is accidentally seen. The general story and what characters will appear have so far been revealed, but actual plot points and events remain a mystery for now and it appears it could stay that way.

Studios, Marvel included, have repeatedly revealed too much in trailers and if the marketing for Guardians 2 does keep it more vague and reuse shots over and over, that should not be a problem. Moments such as Bucky losing his arm in Captain America: Civil War or Falcon appearing in Ant-Man are just a few moments that have been shown in marketing materials in recent memory. There are multiple questions people have about the story and characters in the sequel, but it will be best to learn about them in the film, and not trailers and TV spots. Hopefully Gunn's statements prove to be true, but that won't decrease the excitement that will be unleashed when this teaser is released.
