[UPDATE: Additional Guardians posters have been unveiled. Scroll down for more.]

With a little under two months left before James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters, Marvel Studios has begun releasing more promotional photos and footage from the film. New TV spots have surfaced in addition to interviews with actors like David Bautista and Lee Pace, who have spoken about their characters.

LEGO unveiled official Guardians of the Galaxy toy sets – including figurines of the five Guardians – last week; over the forthcoming week, new character posters highlighting each of the heroes will be released.

Fandango is releasing four new character posters for Guardians of the Galaxy this week, beginning with Rocket Raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper, and Groot, voiced by Vin Diesel. The bounty hunter and his treelike humanoid buddy are depicted mid-battle with Rocket riding on Groot’s shoulder – much like the scene in the prison from the first trailer.

Fandango will be releasing three more posters through Thursday. Presumably the other posters will feature Drax the Destroyer (Bautista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Peter “Star-Lord” Quill (Chris Pratt) as they are the driving force behind the film.

UPDATE: Here are the latest Guardians of the Galaxy posters premiered by Fandango, featuring Gamora, Star Lord and Drax:

Much of the Guardians of the Galaxy’s advertising is tasked with a) drawing the attention of casual Marvel fans who won’t readily know how the film fits into the established Marvel Cinematic Universe and b) introducing the heroes of the movie.

While the initial Guardians of the Galaxy poster capitalized on Marvel’s established heroes, these character posters should help to initiate Groot and Rocket (and possibly Star-Lord, Gamora, and Drax) as heroes in to the MCU alongside Iron Man and Captain America.

What do you think of the poster, Screen Rant readers? Are you looking forward to seeing Rocket Raccoon and Groot on the big screen? Let us know in the comments.

We will update this post with the new posters as they are released.

Guardians of the Galaxy hits theaters on August 1st, 2014.
